Let me start off by saying I played a Warrior and I decided to just stick to PvP with it and besides being a melee as a Warrior felt weak in PvE. It was also so plain and not fun in PvE as a Warrior.

My first picks on what to have as a PvE class was Elem because of all the fancy looking spells but i'm not so sure how good their solo leveling is. My next choice was Ranger because I like bows but at the same time I heard there not really so good at range but better at melee. I also don't know it's leveling speed. I also saw an engineer place turrets and take on an elite add that was 3 levels above him that destroyed my Warrior and he did it without breaking a sweat. But at the same time i'm not so sure if engineers are fun in PvE.

Please help me decide which would be the most fun for me and best for PvE dps and leveling. I like flashy fast paced combat and I like having all sorts of different abilities in PvE. I don't want one ability after another and having them all seem the same.

You could just try them for yourself. Create a character and go straight to the mists and play around with the different spells, weapons and utilities and see which one you enjoy the most. Just realize that you will be playing a lvl 80 in the  mists, so whatever class you choose will take a little while before it gets "good" in pve. For example a Necro starts pretty slow, but one you hit lvl 20 and beyond, they become pretty damn fun.

best thing is play them yourself. a bunch of people on this forum could suggest 1 prof each or whatever or list the profs from their most fun to least, but there will be no consistency ie each person has diff opinion and not just all posting the same thing.

play em, see what you like and what you dont. its pretty easy to delete toons if you dont want them or need space.

The thing is I really wanted to play a ranger for the Bow. I know someone will say to play a class you like but it won't be fun if the damage actually sucks in PvE on a ranger because for some reason I see them all going melee. I also wanted to play a Elementalist because of the cool phoenix bounces and all the fancy AoE explosions but is the damage really really good in PvE? Like will I be able to solo those mini elite guys on one if I am skilled at kiting and kill it fast not some like 10 minute kite session. I also found myself interested in engineers and I know there damage output is awesome but is it really that fun placing turrets and does the turret do everything.. can I put out some fun enjoyable damage out myself?

You will but you will have to be very good at kiting and you will have to utilize all of your skills across all attunements. I also recommend using scepter & focus or dagger/dagger if you are going to try to solo something. Staff is really only meant for ranged fighting as many of the spells have a cast time or a delay before they hit. soloing is still doable but extremely hard to get some distance when your chain lightning has aggro'd multiple baddies.

Has anyone tried out an engineer? Are they truly as fun to play as people say they are?

By the way I know double pistol thieves are good in PvP. Are they powerful in PvE with double pistol?

I quite agree with you for not having fun if your class sucks in PVE

I am curently playing Elementalist.
It used to be total facemelt - best class - especially with staff, which is all about huge AOE.
But it got nerfed pretty much - especially staff (which got damage reduced and also got slow casting speed)

However as Elementalist you have acess to most skills any class has - and its damn complicated to pull it trough. Especially being weakest hp/def class.

But guess what. When you get knack of it, not only that you can sucessfuly melt anything in your way. But you also have most fun. Because you use your brain and skill.

Same goes for engineer - they are pretty similar in idea.

Engi's are fun, but not as huge damage as people are saying. The damage ramps up for them with turrets or boons/conditions as they get deployed but this also makes them pretty stationary in pve as turrets have a long cd after you remove them from their spot.
Its strange that you didnt like warrior. My gf plays warrior with a sigil build and greatsword and the damage hundred blades does is insane.
I can hit about 600-800 damage on hip blast or jump shot where she hits like 2.7k on hundred blades. This is at around lvl 30ish.
But i can bring more support than she can for a group.

Flashy, fast-paced combat with lots of abilities and is good in PvE? My vote is for Ele but I am biased. I say give Ele a try but there are probably a few classes that you might like.

Warrior and Thief are the easiest professions in PvE.
You're either too low level or specced in the wrong trees.

Warrior = Super high crit chance, Signet of healing heals 50+ per second, Defy pain 5 sec immortality, Shield block 3 sec immortality, HB mows down mobs.
Theif = Spam burst, stealth, rinse & repeat.

If fun is what he´s looking for, builds that involve constant repetition are just not that viable. I find thief at it´s most fun when you do not go or a stealth build. But rather for one that is all about chaining shadow steps.

Same as you, I liked the idea of playing a ranger for bow activity etc, (hunter in wow and all).   I really enjoy the ranger and have currently leveled through 54 doing pve questing only.  Funny thing though, I never use a bow.  Not even equipped.  As a ranger my 2 weapons sets are 1) an ax and a torch, and 2) a greatsword.   The ax and torch are great for dynamic events hitting multiple mobs etc and are also great for initiating a one on one fight and the greatsword is an awesome closer.  Not exactly what I expected to be doing when I started but it works great and is a blast to play.

Warrior yes, thief no.
The easy professions are: warrior, guardian, ranger and perhaps necro because they can tank well and minions can solo mobs at higher levels.

I started as an Ele, and while I liked it, I just wasn't feeling it. Then again, it was my first character and I was still...very unsure of the game. I switched to a Guardian (specced into damage) and I love it. It's pretty sweet being a crazed zealot lighting everything on fire, summoning spirit weapons etc. The blue fire is really cool. Good survivability, interesting tool box. I still am dying to try Necromancer, and to go back to Ele.

If you want to solo veterans 3 times your level, Guardian is a great profession for survival builds. But really, every profession has its merits. You'll just have to try them out.

But if you think warriors are hard to PvE with, I don't know how to respond. They channel hundred blades for like 6k crits at mid-level O.o
