Chef / Cooking 0 - 400 Guide, Version 1.5
Hatberg, Dragons In Exile, Far Shiverpeaks @ 14-09-2012

Special thanks to: Simeon, bordot, Mattspire, ZeiMyName, Synvilla, Zygorian, Cassium Vanderbilt, Washi and others from this thread.

Important update: as of September 7th, 2012 a lot of the vendor ingredients are no longer sold by the named NPCs but can be found through harvesting, logging and monster loot bags instead. Possible locations have been added to the guide. Click here for the "Patch Notes".

"SPOILER" WARNING: A lot of the joys of Cooking (and Guild Wars 2 in general) come from discovering stuff for yourself. Cooking is a fun craft on its own, but this guide has tried to minimize the effort, cost and bag space required to quickly grind Cooking to 400.

I haven't included the exact number of materials required as it varies per person, depending on luck (bonus experience on "criticals"), or if you're using a Craft Booster. This guide assumes you know how Renown Hearts and karma work, and that you already know how crafting in general works. For a great video tutorial on crafting basics please visit Enigmius' Guide.

Please note that there are two different tabs in your crafting interface, a Hammer symbol for recipes you already know (inluding the ones that will unlock for free), and an Anvil symbol used to Discover new recipes. In the event you cannot discover a specific recipe mentioned below, chances are you already received it for free when reaching the numbered skill level. Please check your recipes under the Hammer tab.

When I finally get around to doing cooking, I will definitely give this another look, but first impressions are good. How long did it take you roughly?

I'm still busy with the last few steps as I ran out of coin on other crafts that I really needed to continue leveling.

Cooking 0-400 can be done in a single day, providing you have around 112 silver and 2726 karma stockpiled.

I can't give a proper timeline for how much time I took myself as I didn't have this information available to me when I started out. I also tend to run around grabbing all skill points, vistas, etc when I go unlocking Renown Hearts. If you skip everything on your way it's quite easy to rush it.

I don't get what we are suppose to do.

I just picked up crafting and can  buy all the ingredients, but what?

For example, do I buy these?
Bag of Flour (80 copper per 10) - Chef crafting vendor
Stick of Butter (21 karma per 25) - Chef crafting vendor
Jug of Water (80 copper per 10) - Chef crafting vendor
Then make Ball of Dough till I'm level 25? Then do the same for the next and keep moving on?

Strange, I don't recall Cookie Dough being a 50 recipe. I'm fairly certain that Pasta Noodles is level 25, which is an excellent cheap alternative but leads to some more complex recipes.

Pasta Noodles
Bag of Flour  (80 copper per 10) - Chef crafting vendor
Egg (21 karma per 25) - Chef crafting vendor
Jug of Water (80 copper per 10) - Chef crafting vendor

I'll update the guide for this.

Yep, this is correct, except for the few recipes that need to be combined.

For example:
Make 10x (275) Bowl of Orange Coconut Frosting
Make 10x (275) Orange Cake
Combine them into 10x (275) Orange Coconut Cake

If you're not level 300 yet, make 10 more frosting, 10 more cake, 10 more orange coconut cake. (rinse/repeat)

Seems like pasta noodles are 50 as well :(
Wiki is lying.

Oh well I did some Cup[s] of Potato Fries instead since I had some potatos.

Can someone tell me exactly where this NPC is? Having trouble finding it.

Edit: Nevermind, being a tard; found it. Thanks for the help anyhow. ;)

When in the Iron Marches first run to the Scalecatch Waypoint on the west side of the map. Straight south you'll find the Renown heart for Braxa Scalehunter.

Great guide ! Seems like you can lvl really fast by just making 50 of each recipe you mentioned. I went from 0-235 within 1h, I'm doing the rest when I lvl a bit higher.

Did you use the Discovery pane to combine a Cherry and a Chocolate Bar?

Some recipes require you manually discover them (Anvil button), others will unlock automatically in your crafting list (Hammer button).

Will look into it tonight, unless someone else recalls a cheap level 25 recipe. When I started out I made all kinds of things, so I'm not sure anymore which recipe unlocked when.

If no one finds an alternative in the meantime, I'll try to find a different recipe on an alt tonight.

If you have some potatos then Cup[s] of Potato Fries is the cheapest. If not, then I guess Bottle of Simple Dressing works.

Simple Dressing is indeed the simplest skill level 25 craft available. Caramel would be an alternative if you want to save some coppers, but you'd need to pick up some more stuff from karma vendors.

I just discovered it's possible to see the skill rating required of recipes you already know by hovering your mouse over the recipe in your list. This led me to discover Orange Cake is actually a skill level 250 craft, eliminating the need to craft Ginger Pear Tarts.

I've updated the guide to incorporate both changes.

The description to find Cesseilia was kinda vague. To get oranges, she is located directly east of the Whisperwill Waypoint in her oasis. ..if anyone was wondering.

I've been getting similar questions in game. I'll try to make screenshots of the map with the Renown vendors in relation to their closest Waypoint tonight.
