Granted I havent' tested it during a fight, but I was trying to see how much it healed for, but no numbers come up when I use any symbol.
Has anyone had success making this trait work?

It gives the same amount of healing that you get from the 2s extra of Writ of Persistence if you're using Symbol of Faith.
The difference is that 2s longer symbol equals more AoE damage and more combo field usage, so I prefer to stick to Persistence when maining a Mace.
Merciful is useful if you want to use Symbol of Wrath / Protection instead/along with Symbol of Faith, so you still heal regardless of what symbol you use.
For instance if you go with Wrath to get wirling combo finisher to cleanse conditions, then Merciful is more interesting.
I wish we could take both

This ^.
Personally I wish it healed in a way other then applying regeneration. Because by having it apply regeneration it overrides the symbol of faith heal.
Maybe at some point they could change it so it causes symbols to pulse an instant heal to any ally within their area of effect.

Really ? They must have changed it from when I tried it in the beta then.
When I tried it in the beta it simply applied a 2 second regeneration per pule.

Nope it's in additon to your regeneration talent. I tested it myself. So with mace you get two heals.

(520 health over a the full duration of symbol of protection)
Know its an old topic but didn't see any clear answers. Not sure how much it heals without 300 healing.

It's direct heal. Not Regeneration. So if you were able to apply Symbol of Faith and Wrath at the same time, it's actually an insane heal burst.
