I'm blown away by people already hitting 80 and making alts. I mean yeah, you always get speed runners, but this is the first game ever where I actually am behind the general population. I'm only level 26 whereas everyone else I know is 40-70! I clear every area I go too, I don't skip anything, I gather as much materials as I can and I take part in every event I see. I'm at a loss as to how everyone is doing this so efficiently.

So share your secrets here! How are you leveling up?

Doing all the map parts, and all the different starter zones until like 30 or so, and repeat (edit: and by repeat I mean do multiple races level 25 zones, etc..). Run off the beaten path as much as possible to kill the high bonus mobs, underwater is big for this too. Then did storyline, and crafting mostly discoveries as much as you can then finish off with cheap recipes till next materials are available. And do every dynamic event you can, even multiple times if you happen to see it going as you run by. And tag every mob during the event,because they drop tons of crafting materials.

I'm with you there, I don't know why I'm so far 'behind' either. I've been doing my storyline on-level(or a few above) and been keeping up with doing events/hearts near there suggested level. I've also done quite a bit of crafting. I'm no where close to moast of my friends. Playtime also has an effect, but I'm wondering what the playtime is for all these people hitting 80 already..

Its a lot.  Basically GW2 the entire time except to sleep and eat.  Also there are certain areas where events happen very frequently, like a constant cycle.  The speed levelers know where they are, and aren't sharing because that kinda information is never really put on blast lol.  You know how it goes in MMO's.  Its like this though, the fastest way to level is events.  Period.  So if you see ppl hitting cap really fast, its because they found a way to spam more events per hour than anyone else.  Basically they know where to be in any given map.  ANET says you get less xp for events below your level but its really not that much less at all.  A difference of maybe 200xp.

Long story short, the answer is events, and no...no one will tell you where they are.  Basically try every map and see what the highest event frequency is.

EDIT: In case you're wondering, no i don't know..im in the same boat as you.

Yeah I've had people telling me they'll just run through chains of events to level up (course they don't tell me where they are) but it seems like a viable option lol

I'm not really worried about getting level 80 quickly. I'm level 30 Guardian and started some alternates but I level pretty steadily and enjoy my time doing everything too much anyway, not worried bout level

mob bonus xp mostly i think, that and whole cutting back on sleeping thing.

Bonus xp just scales badly imo, from 50 xp for the lvl 10 regions to 500 for the lvl 60 regions.
Sadly most of that is now gone, other then orr but that will most likely be gone when you get there..

Yeah the event was totally true at least during the BW3 , i remm areas where i could farm events , since when one finished another one always popped up.

The problem is i dont remm the name of any of those areas.

Yeah , i got a bad memory so to me it is the norn city , the zone near it and so on...

They're not doing anything different, they just play a LOT more. One of my level 80 friends has played for 90 hours already.

They farm the events that spawn very fast and repeat them constantly. it felt very exploity so i stopped after the 3rd time.

I hit 80 yesterday and by no means did I rush. I have two crafts, weaponsmith and armorsmith both at 300+ and neither did i hit up alot of events, because I was too busy trying to get mats for my crafting. I did Wvwvw for one afternoon so I could get the monthly done. I full completed 5 maps and have done all my personal story up to lvl 80 Against the corruption, which is bugged and can't complete. I also have "about" 60 hours worth of playing. I leveled from 76-80 in one sitting while in lions arch simply crafting.

Leveling in gw2 is very very easy, even if you are trying not to. Also, I have on my character right now...a grand total of 15s. maybe I should do less crafting and more events?

The two most common power levels areas both involve Centaurs. Centaurs are good because they don't have any real annoying abilities.

Kessex Hills is the first one. That Centaur quest chain is almost continuous.

After that is Harathi Hinterlands with the Centaurs to the east. Follow the yells of "Kol's up!"

People also farm the portal quest in the 2nd Asura zone. It bugs out sometimes and just chains spawns mobs.

Farm DE's. Thats what i did and my character is level 64. There should be an area in the human zones for level 26's that has 3 chain DE's that trigger one after another. Gives great exp and doesn't take to long to restart after your done with your run.

Yep.  Saw some folks in there just doing what looked like spamming their auto attack with a Greatsword.  I could see where that would be the easy way for xp.  Heck, a couple of them might have very well been afk-botting it.

Basically you stop doing anything else...my advice: keep lagging behind, this means you have a life. The game will still be there next month ^_-

Did they nerf Kessex Hills by half?  I got 900 exp per gold completion on bridge event.  Then there was a patch and then I got 400 something for a gold.

Focus on school.. I am level 25, but I still focus on school because Guild Wars 2 is happiness until you complete everything, but the knowledge you gain from school will ensure happiness for the rest of your life, and honestly the players that are already almost at cap are nerds lmfao.

Its only easy because your sitting on your ass all day -.-, I suggest no one rush Guild Wars 2 just to get the best everything, thats how a game gets boring fast.

Zerging is the fastest way of leveling.  Usually find a large group traveling together or be in a guild running one.  Basically you storm all the map doing every DE that is happening.. tagging every mob you see.  The large group will kill everything very fast and you caa get a level every 30 mins or less

Only took me a week to hit 80 on my Engie, and like everyone else is saying it's very easy to do if you just do everything on a map. Bigger groups will help since there's really no downside to having more people.

Should also mention crafting can play a huge part in leveling fast. I did 69-80 in less than an hour by doing cooking 1-400 for little cost. Cooking is probably the easiest craft for just pure exp.

Wow efficient lol.  I didn't think crafting really gave that much xp, that sounds fun because I've really been wanting to get my crafting up.

Thank god, cuz Grenn fields sucks.  Least for me it does.  I actually went 20-30 in there pretty fast but I dont like the map lol.  I'm check out that other place if im the right level for it.

Ive been hearing about this crafting business.  Does zone completion really give that much xp?  I never bothered cuz im not the completionist type.

Well I can only speak for myself, but I 100%'d every zone along the way, doing events as I ran across them. I believe that was 10 zones total and it landed me almost at 70 as I completed that 60-70 zone down near Orr. I didn't do any crafting during that time, and only dabbled in WvW a tiny bit. Was grabbing almost every resource node I could that didn't require me to fight my way to it. I was also doing my story quests as they showed up in my line of progression through the zones.

People simply play longer than others too. I think that's a big reason on how people level up faster than others.

Just as an aside, I don't see a real reason to bust through the game and complete it with one character just days after launch. GW3 is not going to be due for quite a long time more. For those with a reasonable memory, replayability is going to take a hit to some extent when going through the same map and events with a different character.

By natural progression, people are going to get to 80 and max out some titles (or in some cases, all of them). That's the 'destination', but don't forget to enjoy the 'journey'.

As a person who got to 80 within the week. I got to 60 during the headstart since my wife and child were visiting my in laws, and then took the week to get the last 20 levels.

I did everything (Story, map completion, crafting, events, AC, etc) and averaged about 1 hour per level. I haven't checked my most recent /age but I was 63 hour at level 60, and I'm pretty sure i'm between 80-90 hours to hit 80.

I'm sure there are others who used exploits or repetitive game mechanics to level quicker than this, but I leveled purely by experiencing new content every step of the way.

Being in a level appropriate zone makes a substantial difference to leveling speed.

Also by all means you should level solo. Anyone who can possibly try to play with you will inevitably slow you down. Met some random players in an event? Good. Doing content solo? Still good, you are not waiting for anyone to cook dinner, go to the restroom, walk their dog, call their gf or mom or whatever. Spend every second of your time in the most optimal way, only then will you achieve anythng in a reasonable amount of time. Which is to say, in the absolute minimum amount of time possible, which you should be aiming for, since time is the only resource you can not get more of in your life.

I'm all for dabbling but I really never liked the level-up process.  I much prefer blasting through it as quickly as possible since everything I really want out of the game I get at 80.  That and I really don't want to spend 3 weeks doing repetitive activities across multiple zones.  Lets get it all out of the way and spend the rest of my gw time in sweet variety.
