I'd stick with it. From what I've noticed, weapons follow this pattern:
Dagger/dagger - Up close in personal. You have attacks to close distance on enemies. The key here is to just keep moving. Learn to watch enemy attack animations so you can be ready to roll-dodge when necessary. Your goal is to minimize incoming damage through smart use of your shield abilities, movement, and limited healing capabilities.
Scepter/dagger/focus - Mid-range attack. You have a bit more leeway with moving away from enemies and trying to keep some distance between you and them. Not a bad choice for soloing as it provides a few more defensive maneuvers, such as various walls and such.
Staff - Distance/aoe. I typically only use the staff in group scenarios or PvP, as it provides the greatest range of all and I just like having the buffer zone of all that space. You can definitely solo, you just have to do it on the move. Most of the attacks are geared to hit multiple enemies, so you have to watch yourself a bit in terms of not pulling extra baddies, as that can be bad news for us
Make sure your weapons and armor are up to date, as that'll obviously make a big difference. All in all, think of it this way: your best defense is a good offense (and dodging). Each battle is a race to see how fast you can drop the enemy's health bar. It's tough to get a feel for, but I would just really practice dodging and being mobile. The game doesn't really reward you for standing still and blasting away. Not gonna lie, it's a bit of a challenge, but when you are able to cleave through a mob without taking any damage b/c you used a solid dodge/attack combo, it really feels rewarding. Hopefully this helped- I'm only 41 myself, so maybe it gets tougher, but those are the strategies I've used.
