Hi,

I currently have a level 5 elementalist and level 10 engineer. I enjoy both, but after reading a few guides on each I'm a bit confused.

I want to choose one to "main". I love supporting, but I also like being able to quest/grind alone. I understand both of these classes have strong support capacities, but which is better for solo questing?

Also, if anyone could link an Engineer guide/build, I'd be grateful!

Thank you.

Depends on what level, after gettig last trait in firearms at level 60 as engineer i became unstoppable dps beast i can kill 6 mobs same level or afk exp with turrets. imo elementalist will be squishier with higher burst damage didnt play him just watched ppl

Elementalist is massively underpowered. Just saying.

I have a level 80 Engineer and my friend has a level 80 Elementalist. To be 100% honest both of them are extremely capable of solo questing. Though I'd say with the sheer power of Elementalist they can slightly do it better. Though every profession can solo easily, so that shouldn't be your deciding factor on which profession.

Not true at all Elementalists are one of the most popular professions.

Having a level 64 Engineer and a level 20 Elementalist, I'll admit that going from 1-20 was much easier as an Engineer. Beyond that, though, I couldn't tell you. The guys and gals in my guild that are Elementalists love the class, and I plan on leveling my own when I'm done with my Engineer.

But I don't think you should base what your "main" is by how easy it is to solo with, however. The longevity appeal to Guild Wars 2 will be in sPvP, WvWvW, and dungeons. I don't think you should sell yourself short of playing the class you want to play for such experiences just because one solos better than the other.

Fact is, neither is easier. Certain builds on each class will be easier or harder then certain builds in the other.

You might also want to echo this question to the eles. I absolutely love Engy, but found ele's to be clunky. Conversely my ele friend can't see how I possibly make useful combos out of my engy skills

These two folks both sum it up. It is all about personal preference and outlook of the class itself, and how you want to play it.

Thank you for all the replies. I will go ahead and level a bit further on both characters and explore different builds.

I hit 28 last night, have been alting a lot. Engineers are insane
Personally I love the Flamethrower, but I'm a melee type person. Also, setting things on fire AoE-style in group events is not only incredibly fun but gets incredible amounts of experience
I can't say whether you should pick one over the other as I have not played my Elementalist yet, but Engineer is definitely a good profession to play if you're quick
