My friends hate the Charr starting area as they say its not appealing at all. It actually stopped one of them from rolling a Charr.

I just told them they werent looking in the right places, so I made a scenic video of the Charr starting area. Do you guys like this area?

As a level 80 Charr I leveled in all the Ascalonian maps, and was not displeased at all.
    
I like the variation of color and scenery. The only thing I don't like are the Flame Legion. They can be so annoying! The whole Northern part of Fireheart Rise can be hell.

The problem here is that your nice video is misleading. It doesn't depict the atmosphere of the actual Charr starting area, which is rough, explosive, and overall different from other starting areas. Your video is more about Sylvari/Human looking at charr area. That kind of mindset. But it's not Charr mindset.

If someone wants Charr to be like Khajiit in Skyrim, or some other very distinctive race such as Argonians, they're probably not gonna like the very starting area. I didn't like the idea of steampunk they decided on for GW2, although I found it to bother me less than I thought it would (as a matter of fact ranger bow bothers me more, it's like a machinegun, much like Diablo's bow being a rocket launcher). If your friend also doesn't like that kind of thing, the only advice I can give him is run fast and run far. Help him to get out of Charr starting area. He can level in Norn area or elsewhere, and just come back for personal storyline.

The Charr areas were all my least favorite. The colors are all the same boring shade of brown, and the zones are rather plain, open areas that just blend in together.

Personally I don't like "autumn" colours, and almost all the charr area is like that so personally I don't like it but I will be playing there anyway.

Being a Charr I absolutely love the Ascalonian maps so far

It's ugly in a very attractive way, just like my repulsivly-attractive Charr himself.

I love the char starting area.

It's a testament to the way the char bend the world to their will.  They view the the world with an 1850's industrial revolutionary eye.

"How can I turn this world and all it's resources to my advantage!".

Their area contrasts between the beauty of nature and the scars left behind by those who came before.

I was in the sylvari zones for a good bit of time before rolling a Charr. I was happy for the change in the type of environment. So yes, I do like the charr areas.

The Charr starting Area is beautiful, hell all the zones are beautiful, I love the art style, it's almost like playing in a painting. Anet did a fantastic job creating this world that we play in.

I hated the charr areas. The scenery was "ok" but the npcs just insulted and yelled at you. I hated doing dynamic quests because of this, and will probably avoid the charr area on all my other toons. To each their own I guess

I overall liked the Charr starting areas, and several times I stopped to look around me, amazed by the artstyle of this game.

Also, I really like the 1:01 scene ^^

wait what? nooooooo Black Citadel is AWESOME. IMO, it is more appealing than the other cities except Rata Sum.

It's pretty rough and very 'industrial' in some parts. Definitely not repulsive at all, and the art is actually very fitting for the environment. The way in which designers and artists have created very different atmospheres in each of the starting areas is just remarkable and worthy of much credit.

I really enjoyed the change in scenery after playing through mostly human / Norn / Sylvari starting areas, it makes you appreciate it that much more.

yeah i still like it because its different. we need diversity the last thing i would want is for the charr zones to be body farmlands like the human areas. my favourite zones so far are probably sparkfly fen and the one above. really like the swappy/tropical atmosphere.
although i thought the charr zones with the shattering purple line were cool. love the visuals and lightning when you walk into that area.

I like the Charr area. It reminds me of pre sear Ascalon and all the good times we had in GW1. Also the high level areas that include the dragonband are just gorgeous.

I really like the charr startinf=g area, but that might becasue I really like that charr as a race, and I love seeing Ascalon not totally destroyed. Reminds me of pre-searing with way more ruins, and a little less green, but whatever. Still looks awesome.

I can understand if people say that they're not a fan of the colors as that's just personal preference. If somebody doesn't like it because of how almost desolate and destroyed it seems then I suspect they didn't play GW1 and/or they're just not a nostalgic person. I like looking around at different parts of the game and seeing things from GW1 like Droknar's Forge, how Rata Sum has developed since GW1, and how Ascalon's land has started growing. I look forward to exploring the entire area.

I like the charr lands, along with the shiverpeaks and kryta. It's the sylvari lands that don't appeal to me.

I am surprised at the amount of people that love this area. I agree with it though, it is appealing due to its contrast to the other environments. It adds an extra element to the game from a scenic perspective.

I like how the Charr lands look. Not because it's so beautiful but because it's very fitting. Kinda like the human starting area, it looks like there's been fighting for a long time. And The Wall brings back GW1 memories.

Black Citadel is probably one of the hardest towns to navigate through. Paths aren't as clear cut, but made haphazardly in a jungle of steel girders and smelting pits. It's a rough city born in a rough area. So I guess it fits.

I just moved to the Norn areas with my charr as I don't overly like the Charr areas, My Charr is a tad more individualistic and likes being in the wild, with his raven pet, so spending time in the Norns zones made sense. In all honesty you can level where ever I did go to the Cjharr zoen eventually just to continue my map completions
