According to the wiki, you can creare the recipe for a specific armor using:

Quote

5 Bottle of Elonian Wine

20 Arcane Crystal

50 Mystic Coin

1 Armor item

The questions are:
Does the recipe create an armor with the exact skin and bonus stats of the armor item you use?
Does it work with cultural armors too?
And if the answer is "yes", then what are the requires of the recipe?

It creates the recipe for the sets of armor. It's useless and a waste of time and money since it actually costs more materials to make an armor set that way. You're better off just crafting the set.

Fixed that for you. I'm surely not the only one who finds the Mystic Forge a complete rip-off in terms of what you put into it and what you (might) get back out.

I haven't messed with the mystic forge at all. From what I understand, the random item making is pretty useless? And the recipes for the legendary weps aren't widely known yet?

Also, how does the armor work. Is exotic armor crafted with the highest tier mats or is the mystic forge used? I have rare 80 armor from crafting it using silk and the karma recipes that take 15 monster mats each. Will the armor that uses gossamer be exotic?

One more question. Do legendary weps have higher damage then exotic weps? If the legendaries take insane amounts of mats then it kinda goes against anets policy of grinding for skins, not max stats.

Some people claimed to have gotten the legendary material weapons from tossing in rares/exotics, the 4 of the same item kind is really a big gamble but it can work out very well.
A lot of the non random recipes for exotics have been found out, majority of people are simply not sharing the recipes. Look at the trading post and see which named exotics have been on sale already.

armor boxes recipes require a crafted armor to make, and they give a recipe for the entire set of armor with the same stats.
Keep in mind these take 10 insignia's for exotics, meaning you need 4 insignia's more then normal crafting. (ergo don't do it!)

Thanks for your replies. I'm interested into this process because I'd like to recreate the (very expansive) skin (don't care about the stats) of the cultural sets using just a single piece of armor. Does anyone knows if it may work?

No, you can only transmute the same type of item skin into another. So, helms into helms and coats into coats, and they must also be of the same armor class (light/med/heavy).

So transferring a skin from a single piece onto your entire set won't work.

Um please don't tell people information we don't know and/or incorrect information - you did say it in a polite and courteous way so I'm sure you were genuinely trying to be helpful. Legendary weapons are the SAME as exotics, not even 0.000001% stronger. Unless they have changed it from beta (no-one can say as no-one has any) but in beta they were exactly the same. Check Dontain's video - there you can see the greatswords have a 179/128/128 stat distribution.

Secondly, as of this time there is NO set recipe. The 2 confirmed ways of getting the exotics is random luck from forge or lucky chest drops in Orr. The 'set recipes' you have been asking for are unlikely to exist. Why? Because alot of them require 50 lodestone or similar making the actual cost >50g. If they're priced at the 50g mark it makes no sense.

OP has a very good question. This could be a method for crafting armor that you normally cannot craft. If of course, it works.

Your 50g mark argument hinges on it being only able to be made via the mystic forge & the mats being expensive.
For all we know they could be gotten in 3 ways: set recipes, random mystic forge tossing & orr chests.

Fair dos you have a source, that's been updated by guru. Still need real game items to prove it as guru has a lot of bugs. Yhough its better now

Honestly I doubt you could box up cultural armor though if you could I would in a heart beat that's 100's of gold I'm saving. tempted on testing but honestly saving gold for my base leg exotic wep
