Armor question - What armor set to get?

I just crafted all weapons berserker / rampager. Cant realy figure out what armor set to get.. I wanna be able to change between almost all specs so i figured i need either Knights, Rampager, Carrion or Berserker. Im thinking getting Knights for WvW and PvE support but meh, i dont know.


What set are you guys going for? And what Runes?

I'm using Staff and Greatsword and my build basically focuses on shattering. I have Illusionary Persona and confusion on shatters so I benefit from power, condition damage, and precision is just gravy. Naturally, I thought I'd use Rampager's set but after doing a few dungeons at 80 I'm concerned that I am too much of a glass cannon. I'm not sure if the vitality on a Carrion set will give me the survivability that I expect (turn a 1 shot into a 2 shot death).

I was looking around for some high level mesmer discussions before I invested in a full set but couldn't find much. Looking forward to hearing some of your configurations :)

I've been thinking about this as well.  I've been looking at the 42k karma gear in Cursed Shore, but none of stats seem to match what I was looking for.  My main weapon of choice is GS and my build is also focused on shattering, with condition damage coming from confusion and bleeds.

imho rampage for WvW, like berserk for elementalists too. i think we have enough escapeskills and WvW is zerg most of the time. so it doesnt really matter whether you have 5k hp more or less.

for pve, i crafted explorers set for my mainchar(its ele, mes is alt) and went there for high %mf.

otherwise we can go with power/vit/condmg

if youre not shure: craft full offensive set and then buy the def set for karma@ WvW npcs(pow/vit/tou) (or set x from the temple)

i have a full rampagers set for armor and a full coral set for trinkets. for pve the best choice. i will get the wvw trinkets though for 5-10 man group play in wvw. full damage is a little to squishy there.

staff/gs atm, did not put much thought into the build yet, just took what seemed good and i already wreck faces (it's my second toon) tomorrow i'll do a little theory crafting.

Thanks for the reassurance on the Rampager sets! Looking forward to hearing your results weizen. I've gone ahead and crafted the full rare rampager's set. Not a fan of armor revealing a lot of skin, but it'll do for now.

Now to explore rune options! ~_~

Using GS crit/condition/clone factory for bleeds/shatters.

Gear choice: rampager's for pve (sitting at about 17.5 k health), and i swap in some carrion for wvw (22k health). Using Superior Rune of the Adventurer since it turns me into the ultimate dodge-roll clone factory, and it's especially helpfuly when i'm being focused because i'm dodging & healing anyhow.

Rockin' sigil of earth on my GS at all times. For my secondary, I use staff or sword&focus/pistol depending on the situation, but it's mostly used for escaping bad situations.

For secondary sigils, I use a few different defensive/supportive ones, but in dungeons, I've been using Water (supportive heals on staff), energy for more dodge rolls (personal safety), or hydromancy (for kiting) to be useful because there are several fights that consist of hectic kiting situations, otherwise I just have my GS out for the most part. For other stuff like WvW or simply exploring Tyria, I use Bloodlust because the accumulated stacks (250 power total) aren't bound to which weapon you currently have out, so I'll usually just make sure to switch to my secondary right before whatever I'm attacking dies, get the stack, then I'll go back to GS while keeping the extra power on me until it reaches 25 stacks, and then I'm set. it's kinda OP as long as you don't get downed, and with the added survivability of my build choice, i'm usually able to escape or survive any bad situation outside of dungeons... those places aren't too forgiving since many encounters/mobs seem like they are designed to practically 2 shot even the best tank setups.

I went for the Knights Set for WvW and some defensive Dolyak runes, so far im very happy with it. Going for some WvW karma jewelery when i get enough to buy em.

Also went for Rampager's, since it allows some spec changes between Power and Condition Damage. Almost any spec will benefit from every stat on Rampager's anyway.

I was thinking of going Knight's for explorable mode dungeons and WvW but now I'm not so sure. Anyone care to vote between Knight's and Rampager's?

I used Rampager's while leveling, but now that I'm 80 I'm swapping everything over to Knight's. Biggest reason behind this is for large scale dynamic events and having the conditions I inflict being written over (bleed, burning). Plus, I get some extra toughness for survivability and I take the trait that adds a portion of my toughness to condition damage. I primarily use sword/pistol and staff when I'm fighting, but have been swapping around to greatsword for farming DE's.

So my vote and what I like is Rampager's while leveling and Knight's at 80.
