This is really weird. At some points I seem to be getting a decent rate of badges, like 30-50 in one hour, but at other times I barely get any. I've probably gone 50 minutes without a single badge drop, and during that time I killed plenty.

So why is this? I know that random loot, like weapons, armour and crafting materials that are dropped are determined by the player you killed's level.

At the moment I'm presuming that badge drop rate is higher on higher level enemies, but why am I getting this fluctuation where at times the drop rate is pretty decent but at others, it's very, very slow?

These need to go directly into your inventory - why they need to be looted I have no idea. I hate to think how many I have left lying around the battlefield.

30 to 50 are you kidding!!

Ive been out there for hours and have a total of 14..  It's so frustrating as a ranger I can shoot someone down, yet Long before I can get to them they've already been finished off.. They really need to do something about how these are rewarded..

It seems very random.  Sometimes I earn no badges for a straight 1 v 1, but then earn 2 for knocking someone down and not even finishing them off.

when you contribute to a kill from distance, you get a loot bag that spawn where you are standing; not where the enemy died. I don't know if it is always like that, but it happened a lot of times when I was using guns with my thief, or an arrowcart from uphill, for instance.

I for one would be very happy if loot bags showed up on the mini-map for a short period of time. As a longbow ranger I am often killing at range and always in motion - I do try to circle back and search for bags once the fighting has stopped but I know I leave a lot on the field. Some better way to deal with this than having people divide their attention between killing hostiles and collecting valuable badges would be a good idea.

I've gotten 480 so far since release, doesn't matter it seems if you're the one doing the spear in the face or not, if a bag appears it might have some in it, hardest part is making sure the buggers get picked up. Also get them from veteran-type mobs sometimes in enemy keeps/supply camps.

Average collection rate for me has been around 1 in 10 (i.e. I had 100 at 1k kills, 200 at 2k, 300 at 3k etc.). I have no idea how many I've left on the ground. I haven't done any of the jumping puzzles, so my count is pretty much strictly drops.

They seem to drop from anyone from the enemy factions (players or mobs).

It would be nice if you received them more like karma awards, instead of a physical object that you have to loot and carry around/bank.

I've got 442 Badges so far, they are fairly easy to get imo. Just don't circle towers all the time ... fight your enemies :P

I believe the main reason they are part of loot is because they were added for BWE3 (or 2? I forget) and the reason the bags drop at your feet is because it makes it easier for you to loot so you don't have to run into the middle of the mob. People would riot if you had to loot from bodies on the ground while you're defending a wall.

I think this system was put in place because it was less time consuming than coding a whole new WvW-only currency into the game so late in the process.

My worst was probably 2 badges after 80 kills. Currently at 1100 kills with 290 badges. With around 30 of those badges from Eternal Battleground and Borderland puzzles.

I think Siege-users get more badges because they are safer and get their loots next to them. I'm a well necro and I do a lot of in-the-face aoe's and running away. I can't pick up or find my bags of loots most of the time.

This probably applies to all melee players. (I count myself as melee since my wells are self-target aoes and I have to run next to my targets)

Also applies to conditioners, I'd often find a random bag of loot appear while i'm window shopping in the citadel. If only I A-net get their bug fixed so they can return back to instant inventory deposit.

Do I actually need to deal the finishing blow in order to get the badges of honour? Because I've only got 25 so far, and I've played for a fair while... I'm also a longbow ranger, and I'm caught in the middle of the zerg, which makes it quite hard to gain kills. Any tips for someone who's after the Mist Walker armour? :D

Pro-tip:

Hold down ctrl to make all the loot bags in LoS more easily visible as the name appears over them!

126 kills with 1 badge...
I remember i got like more than 6 badges when i first enter wvw back when i was lvl 10
And im pretty sure i put it in my bank (with other first time bg bonuses) and it disappeared...

And i heard that we can get the badge from trash mobs around wvw, is that true?

Right there with ya.  I put my badges in the bank from various profession's excursions into WvW, too, and I know I don't have 50 yet, so I must be equally bad on all of them.  Of course, I can't afford arrowcarts and such as a rule, I hear those can really rack you up some kills.

I've found that I'm more likely to get item drops from player kills if I've done more than 50% of the damage required to kill them. Could just be coincidence, but whenever I 1v1 someone I tend to get item drops, whereas if I'm running in a group and merely mopping up after people I get significantly less despite getting more kills.

I found that in a WvW fights spamming F is a wise choice cuz it auto loots stuff.

i for one think having to loot at all in a pvp warzone is just ridiculous. i hate being in a battle and having to stop fighting to loot or think about where i have been going and having to trace my steps looking for loot. things like the badges need to be earned like karma for a start i think, so you get them regardless of whether you take the time to loot.

as for getting them...nah, nothing consistent. though i do think its like pve events, you gotta "tag" players for a bit of damage to get anything. so even here in wvw the profs with lots of awesome aoe get everything for just spamming aoe and hardly contributing "properly" and the rest get screwed out of loot.

It seems a bit random to be honest with these badges I have around 3000 kills now I think and I've only gotten about 600 badges so far. Sometimes I go hours without seeing any and other times they seem to drop about every kill. But most of the loot that drops seems to be completely random, I've gotten a few excotics as well so far so I'm not complaining

With regards to the chap that started the tread. I had a day where i was able to play 8 hours+ wvw non-stop, within that time i gained more bags and bags containing badges, whilst being in a group. I had 24 badges which is extremely good for me considering i would normally be solo following a commander or be in a duo group.

Group of 5 people will guarantee more bags, maybe not badges, only thing that is annoying is if you get killed and you have bag loots, which you was unable to get due to death, by rights should be there when you return to the scene. So my alt char i have been playing this in wvw and gained more badges than my lvl 80 necro. I would like to know how long it would take to complete a set of armor and weapon with badges.

it seems the average is about 1 badge per 2 kills, i have 71x kills in wvw so far, and gathered about maybe near 400 badges in total, this includes the rare badges i got from objective kills

the color!

anyways, it'll take anywhere from a month to forever to complete a set of invader gear, especially with the accessories too, they are really expensive, a set of invader accessories alone is almost 2 thousand badges, the gear is also very expensive

Couple observations I have had.

Badges seem to be related to the amount of damage you contributed to the player. You can finish someone and get nothing because you havent done enough damage. Most I have ever gotten is 2 from a bag on solo kills so that is the pvp limit I think.

If you damaged someone enough and didnt kill them you still can get a bag when they die. The bag will spawn where you are at that moment. If your moving you may miss it.

On occasion a npc vertern or champ has dropped them when I solo kill.

The OP that got 50 in a hour must be the best player in the game .... If your playing objects, and roles, you can contribute to lots of kills and still get nothing.
