I'm presenting you a Build/Guide I was working on since release.
I was all about D/D + SB, because I'm a dagger-fan and I personaly think, that playing w/o shortbow is suicide (+ you are lacking of AOE / condition spread potential)
The Key-Element about the build is:
- Being able to evade most of the deadly skillshots and/or skills
- Being "all the time" able to move quick, as a roamer and/or in combat
- Delivering high damage when you engage w/o being forced to hit those one-trick-pony-10k+-backstabs and stuff

You will find yourself in the situation, that if you don't run into a whole zerg, of you get caught by x stuns in a row there will be ALWAYS a way out of the situation using shadowstep and/or sigil of agility in combination with shortbow to get away.
Furthermore your Buff/Debuffpotantial in a groupfight is relativly high for a thief (not using venoms).
If you use your build correctly you are gonna outsustain s/p d/d bursters easily, while still being able to be a rly strong 1on1 champion.
In teamfights you can deliver amazing aoe dmg while being also able to go in after some seconds, because you don't have to fear getting caught.
Just test it - if you like the Dagger moves it will be fun...
