I don't like them too much, really. I find that they're tacky and they ruin immersion. I much prefer humour which is based upon the game itself. Like the humour that's abounds in the charr area. How the charr make tongue-in-cheek comments about the dynamic events is beautiful, and an amazing contrivance.
"
Hoo-wee! That was one amazing fireworks display! I could do that every day and not get bored!"
This one happens after a charr's pet devourer (named Gir) dies in one event, and you help him find another: "
Yes... this one looks similar to my old pet. He has the same markings, and he's about the same size... yes! Yes! I shall take this one and call him Gir!!"
Though there's also one line in Lion's Arch which exemplifies how terribad the charr are at insulting (which I find endearing). And involves a charr going all tsundere.
Asura Kid: "
Ha, mister! You look like a big, dumb beast!"
Charr Lionguard (clearly taken aback): "
Y-yeah?! Well... you have a face like a raisin!"
Then there was the charr
military cadence, and the
Primus who was working with cubs as devourer caretakers.
And do I even need to mention Tybalt Leftpaw? Do I really?
(The charr writing is pretty great across th board.)
I will admit that Haneri Jenos Sr
did get a chuckle out of me, but honestly? I prefer the game being funny by its own merits.
