I'm using the full exotic CoF gear but none of the colors really work for me except blood and I'm deciding between some type of black or white but don't want to spend over 5 gold for both.
Lmk your opinions on dye combos! pics preferred!

Are those dingleballs on your boots? I swear I see dingleballs on your boots. Tell me those aren't dingleballs on your boots
I like really dark red and gold for some reason.

If you want a white so white that it blanks out all the textures on your gear, or a black so dark that it does the same, then you'll be spending 5g on dyes. Otherwise there are a lot of nice almost-white/black hues that complement looks 10x better in my opinion. Then again, like all things colors, opinions are just opinions.
Personally, I like cool colors (on the spectrum that is, green/blue/purple). I also prefer colors that are muted as they fit in better with the game world, which is generally rendered fairly realistically. I tend to use Midnight Ice, Midnight Sky, Royal Blue, Gunmetal, Pitch, Tarnished Steel, Burnished Steel... Royal Blue. Midnight Violet. Cream, and Burgundy for accents. A lot of colors just look off on the medium armor set that I use.
Midnight Ice vs. Celestial on the chestpiece for comparison *shrug*

Leave the darker colors towards the bottom of your character, and gradually build your way up.
If you really want to get a good scheme, read up a bit on color theory, and it will help give you ideas on which colors mesh together well.

Black and dark blue
Black and golden
Black and white
Etc.
As long as it has black in it, its going to be awsome.
PS: I saw someone wearing the same colors as the Joker: Purple, green and yellow.
It was... creepy.

another option is to go with complementary colors. like blue and yellow, they are different but similar enough if you use the right shades that they complement each other well. sometimes really different colors with high contrast can complement, black and a bright color like yellow can go very well together too.
but then black goes with pretty much anything. if you cant find you make colors that fit well, just pick 1 color and put it with black. cant really go wrong when doing this. ofc you need to have a dark enough black for it to work
if youre feeling patriotic, and have close to the right shades of the colors, you could color your armor the same as your countries flag

That's the reason i wonder if I'd like Abyss/Celestial. If i manage to find one, i'll just preview it and probably sell it and then buy gems.
When a color is put as far towards a part of a spectrum as it can be or is as bright as it can, tectures and layers ten to be washed out like you said. Like i love the midnight blue on that character over the celestial.
Personally my favorite color for my guardian right now is Brick until i find another red. I think the game still classifies it as orange though.

It's the light Cabalist armor, with Conjurer shoulderpiece.
EDIT: Like sergel02 said above me, the pure white/pure black tends to wash out the textures.
I found that either ice blue or fog does very good for white, while I really like the midnight fire for black.

My personal favorite combo at the moment.
Wrath (a deep red)
Red
Pale (off-white)
Antique Gold
Nothing special in terms of rarity, but it looks pretty good when combined.

Midnight blue (dark blue)
Icing (white)
Taupe (Brown)
Sometimes I swap Taupe for Lemon shade and midnight blue for pine or brick colors. There are also many other random combinations that I use, but these are the ones that I use over and over again.

It's hard to say what the best dye combos are, though. Some dyes look different on pieces of armour.
Currently I have the starter dark grey with robin (shade of blue) and stone (lighter grey).
Some other colours I like are the shades of deep red, light yellow/orange, light blue, sky blue.

Pirate medium armor set. Feathered plume can be whatever off color you like, deep red or a gold yellow seem best, as well as a white.
