Ya, definitely!  The white & black dyes are obviously the more expensive to buy it took me a while to get them.  But, the white gold is cheap to afford I've had that one for ever.

The first set is the 42 k karma set you can buy in Orr except the gloves (don't ask me which ones, I don't know that much ,especially about medium armor).

The Asura is the feathered armor (tailor silk crafted) except the leggings which are the country pants and get be found as loot in low level zones

The last is the Draconic armor (Armorsmih exotic crafted).

i really like charcoal paired with lemon tint and antique gold accents, no idea how i'd like more expensive dyes since i cant afford em.

Dyes are not too expensive now, even the rare ones, as long as you know what you want and not try to be completist about it.

abyss with burgundy dye is pretty good if you find the right armor to use. It gives a 'goth' and dark feeling.

I really love the dye system in this game. My plan is to get all the dyes at some point on my ranger who is my most played character. So far I have maybe about a hundred or so of which I've bought like 2 or 3 that I really wanted. I even had a black one drop at one point which I promptly used even though I don't care for the actual colour so much.

Recently I've been playing my elementalist and a dye combo with that character is really what got me posting on this thread:

Here's my elementalist in tier 1 Norn cultural armour and the Ebonhawke cultural staff. I love this combination and it seems to work very well with the armour and the green tattoos on my elementalist. Green is my favourite colour and I use it very much on the elementalist because of the her tattoo colour. I was very pleased to find a 3 colour combo that worked because usually I only go for 2 colours. I used midnight yew, spring leaf and antique gold for this combination.

This is my main Guardian wearing:

• CoF (Citadel of Flames) helmet
  
• Orrian (42k karma) shoulders
  
• Draconic (lvl400 armorsmith exotic) all other pieces

All of them are dyed with Sand (gold color) and Pastel Sea (white color) as I saw fit.

I don't get the core of the OP post. It's a pointless question. Various armors behave differently using a dye instead of an other. Example? Arah armor. When abyss can makes an other armor black, arah armor goes a kind of gray, exact same color you get with an ubercheap "iron dye". I never found a real, total black color for arah armor. The best i found was a very dark grey, absolutely not a black color.

Anyway, the best red, and one I didn't see mentioned while glancing through this thread, is Heirloom.

But with the variation in tones between different skins, the "best" looking colors will vary between skins.

It depends a lot on the material you use it on too. The same dye can be very different on cloth, leather and metal. Generally I'm very careful with white dyes. White only looks natural on cloth imho. On metal is most certainly the hardest combination.

Yeah, I use Ice Black or smth on my mesmer and it's even darker than Abyss, it really depends on the materials it's used on.

Here's a compilation of human female armor looks and locations. Male armors look almost the same as females in almost every case. Sylvari and Norns will look like humans in general in the armor.

Hmm, lot's of high-contrast splashing of colors.....that won't get you into the Ash Legion.

I have to represent the other end of the color-scale, the shades of gray and pale colors

I have only found 1 non-gray colour that I really like: Forgiveness, nice name too. And I'm not even a fan of green, but it looks like its behind a veil of mist. Let's see if the screen-shots show any of that:

I have two sets of armor (three sets actually, 2 of which I change my color frequently), which use quite different combos. One set go with darker and scarier color selection and the other one looks softer and more fun. Excuse my crappy computer


First set: Midnight Ice & Blood




Second set: celestial & lemon ice dye (I think this is the one?)

The difference between Midnight Blue and Midnight Ice is pretty huge, a lot of detail is lost when you use the more expensive dye.
