I think that your characters personality (Noble, Scoundrel, Diplomatic, Militant, etc.) should decide what your character says (next expansion).

Just throwing out an example, if the pact breaks in the first expac, and you were diplomatic, it should break because you tried to appease one group and the other got angry; if your personality was militant, you would try to order one group around and they get even angrier; if you're a brute, then it should break because you punched someone in the mouth, etc etc.

It doesn't have to decide major plot points (i'd be against that, actually), but just make them happen a different way depending on your personality. My thoughts; yours?
