I've played mostly heavy or light armor classes until now, and i really liked the skin variety for them.

Especially for heavy armor, everything from being a tin can to plate bikini's out there :P

Now i'm thinking about making a thief, i've browsed a bit for what armor i can get for him, and... it's trenchcoats, trenchcoats everywhere. Ugh!

Can we please get more DIFFERENT medium armors? They all look freaking same!

Agreed, most of the medium armours in this game have no flair and aren't inspiring in any way. It really is just a big variety of trenchcoats.  Unfortunately, i don't think you're going to see a change as  the developers have obviously put a lot of effort into making the medium armours ever-so-slightly-different from each other and nothing more. It's sad, when in towns i can see NPC's with lovely leather outfits, but i know they're nowhere to be found in-game for your character.

My ranger is about level 44, and I've also been very disappointed in the armors available to him so far for crafting or purchase. The medium Heritage skin from the HoM is gawdawful and doesn't solve the problem.

I always liked the Krytan ranger armor from GW1, so I broke down yesterday and bought the Krytan skin from the gem shop. Big mistake: somehow it looks like they dug up a 200-year-old Krytan grave and ripped the moldy armor off a decaying corpse. Seriously. The ends of the sleeves and the bottom hem of the coat are tattered and there is a hint of green along the hem that looks like mold. What the heck was the designer thinking?!

Still, the game is young yet. Sooner or later I will find something I like or something I like will be added.

I have made into the 40's level range and checked every single karma vendor along the way. Also looked on TP and crafting recipes. Every piece of medium gear looks exactly the same. Either trench coat or a short leather style coat. It's so bad I thought they might be place holders that they haven't changed yet or that my preview pane was broken... Alas this seems to be the design that the developers are going for. Maybe they hired some ex blizzard employees to just rehash content already?

I agree there's no shortage on longcoats, while I was always fond of the dragonscale and studded leather armours GW1 had.
Fortunately, I found a longcoat I actually like, so I'll just use transformer stones to keep that one.

Well I like trenchcoats, but I like my Engineer to look like some weird old western mad scientist :P

Honestly in most games I get pretty sick of every set being the same generic skin tight "Rogue" or ninja outfit with the only difference being where the knives are placed, so this is a nice break, but some sort of scale/hide or a bit of ringmail wouldnt hurt.

I have to agree, medium armor is usually ugly or plain.

Not just medium, pretty much all armor types are lacking diversity in low levels. My engineer still looks like he's wearing level 1 items.
Hope this will improve in higher levels (currently lvl35).

They need balance.

Right now its all about the superhero butt-capes and the trenchcoat mafia look...

There are maybe 2 shirts in the game, 3 if human - all female only.

I made a suggestion on the official forums, but so no far no one's said anything in it:
https://forum-en.gui...re-of-it-please

- Mind you if ALL the armor had been shirts and pants, I'd be making the opposite suggestion. I think they really need about even variety...

And that one is human female only.

I've been ranting about this since beta. They need to add more diversity of outifts in all categories and stop with the damn tents stapled to peoples asses. So many gorgeous armors ruined by a hip parka.

Actually, I kind of agree with this now. There are nice looking medium armour skins, but I only like two of the sets. Others are somehow weird or they reveal too much to my tastes. (Yes, I dislike this human level 80 racial female thing on a ranger). To me the best looking sets are the Koda set (PvP locker) and the order of whispers set, which I already have.

Medium armor selection sucks. 28 trench coats, one decent armor, and one good human-only armor.

Really, Anet? Really?

To each his own, I prefer most of the medium sets to the light. My favourite is the Shiro exotic L80 set, which is pretty much a ninja

Okay I know I'm weird I love the trench coats, they look classy to me. For me I'm so tired of the short mini skirts for light class myself.

Yea, and the only hoods being starter hood and the whispers hood, both of which dont match with the ONLY armor ive seen worth getting (lvl 70 exotic armor- duelist coat)

It really sucks the 80 exotic armor for a ranger/thief/engineer looks like roman legion armor with more flair on the skirt.

I really, really love the medium armor in this game. I'm tired of the flashy-aion shoulder pad oriented armor. All the spikes, colors, and crap makes it look so bad. The trench coats in this game are awesome. They actually look realistic, and like something s thief or ranger would actually wear. Not all of us want to be ninjas or assassins. Some of us want to be scouts, woodsmen, rangers, thieves.... Not Asian or fantastical assassins.

For example: Van Helsing, Solomon Kane, Aragorn, western gunslingers/outlaws, witch hunters from warhammer, detectives, the list goes on. They all wore realistic-plain outfits. Some of us like this. I, for one, despise the human cultural amor because it has knives everywhere....

WIth most of the medium armor sets i don't even have to care about the pants visual, since i can't see it most of the time, but what really pisses me off is that the CoF armor chestpiece covers the *ing shoulderpads too! I mean what's up with that?

I do have one gripe with some of the sets though: they seem one or sizes too big!

The pirate and the HoM sets look like they're made for broader people than my frail ranger and thief girls ..
And we need shirts to wear under the coats .. it doesn't look very comfortable this way.

I somewhat agree with you. The crazy over the top medium armor of games like Aeon or even WoW's over use of particle effects is too much. However  I am not disappointed with the style of armor just the lack of variety. As of now I can either look like a trench coat mafia type or a pirate. Now tell me, do you picture your ranger running through the ones in either of these get ups?

While it is true that we have many long coats, there is still short and medium length options. While I currently use the heritage set for a bandit/highwayman RP concept I have plenty in my bank to transmute from (and I forgot to add in the following picture 2 very nice and sexy short jerkins). Looking like a ninja is a no-no for me, I play a West style inspired game, not something asian!

Are those super hot? I dunno, I quickly previewd what my low level thief had in her bags, play with colors and they can be striking! This is just basic boring.

The third image is Light armor - it's the Student top.

As for style, just because it's not a long coat, doesn't automatically mean it's going to be ninja-style. Look at the original GW1 armors for Ranger - Obsidian, Fur-lined, Drakescale, plus a whole bunch of others.

I love the long-coat look, but it's not good that there's only that - some variety is sorely needed! There's plenty of different types and styles in Heavy and Light after all.

I'll agree there is a lack of variety, but I found a combo that I like on my engineer and when I get to my ranger I already have a combo that I want for him.
