Warning, this topic may contain mild spoilers for part of the early Sylvari personal storyline (Act with wisdom, but act), and one part of the storyline near level 75.

When my Sylvari character was newly born into the world, she met two lovely Sylvaris called Carys and Tegwen, and together they all discovered how a magical Orrian mirror has the power to create a portal to Orr.

My character spent three missions with these guys, and I grew to love them.

Now, fast-forward to when my character is roughly level 75, I am in the ruins of Orr and who do I meet? But my two Sylvari pals, Carys and Tegwen, they plan to use the mirror's magic to lure some of Zaitans minions. However, even though I spent quite a while with these guys, they seem to have forgotten me. They talk about the mirror as if I wasn't there when they discovered it's power, and they neglect to mention at all that I helped them immensely.

I feel both betrayed and slightly erked that they forgot me

Anyone else found recurring parts of the storyline that don't seem to remember your earlier involvement?

Yeah, there was a "memory" issue for me in the transition between the Nobility background plot and the Dead Sister plot in the human storyline. It wasn't so much that the characters didn't remember what I did, as that they seemed to forget a very important piece of information they'd already discovered.

I'll try not to go into too much detail for people who haven't tried that combo yet, but may be spoilerish anyway:

During the Nobility plot, Logan and the PC discover that a certain person has been involved in corruption that led to specific humans being targeted by "enemies" who had been fed information about them. Although they can't yet prove it, they vow to keep any eye on this person.

Over the course of Dead Sister, we discover that a very similar betrayal happened to the Screaming Falcons. We also discover that the culprit would have to have had the same type of official position as the person who did the earlier treason.

And yet... not once does my character or Logan so much as float the possibility that it might be the same person!

Obviously it wouldn't be enough to declare the person guilty, but surely it should be enough to give the investigation some direction. No one seems to have thought of that, though.

I realize it's because a player with a different combination of story choices might not have found that out yet, but ArenaNet really ought to have plotted their way around that issue without just wiping the characters' memories of the obvious conclusion.

I agree. It ruins the story.

That sounds like a huge oversight on ArenaNet's part, at least for people who are into their Personal Story. While it is nice to know my Sylvari will meet Carys and Tegwen again (even if Carys is a bit of a twit)... yeah would be nice if they acknowledged what happened before.

I've come across missing voices during some Story cut scenes, so hopefully forgetful sprouts is on the fix list also.

Yea I ran into that with Street Rat story too.

There are times where even in the same mission they are like "He must be the villain", and the conversation after they are like "We need to find out who did this!".  Makes me -______________-

Haha yeah... I think the last parts where the stories converge are just one recording, meaning that it's umbrella to cover all of the possible story combinations that players experience. For example, I was a human noble so I didn't really have this problem. But I would see the exact same thing that you would see, and that would also cover your personal storyline. I guess they cut back on the recordings to save a bit of money. It works, to a degree, but it would be nice to have the NPCs recognise you.

Dead Sister is like that too.

Again, trying to avoid heavy spoilers, but... there comes a point in the plot (though most people probably saw this "twist" coming a mile away) where it seems likely that things are not quite as permanently wrecked as they appear.

There is an obvious next step:

Rescue mission! She's not dead after all! Yay!

Except everyone keeps nattering on about bringing the culprit to justice, instead of prioritizing actually trying to fix the situation. Even when enlisting help from various Seraph members, the PC doesn't point out that helping could still save lives - all the talk is about punishing the guilty. No one seems to remember that anything still needs doing until several levels later, then suddenly the plan shifts back to the logical next step. It would be weird even if Deborah was a stranger, but with her supposedly being the beloved sister, it makes the PC seem borderline insane.

In this case it's not a matter of story branches not meshing well, it's just inconsistency within a single story.
