Except for one being AoE and more expensive, hows the dmg? I thought about buying fire yesterday. I came on today and to my surprise the price had gone down by about 75s, which i found rather strange.. However, I noted that the fire sigil had been given a five sec cooldown, which wasn't there yesterday(? im 90% certain).

But more to the point. I play GS/Rifle atm. Full Draconic Knight (pre, pwr, tough) with solider runes 6/6, as well as all orichalcum berserker jewelry.. Now. Whats more viable, for me here? More single target dps, or AoE, which im clearly lacking not playing bow, or is it even worth it now that it wont proc more than once every five sec?. And is the dmg the same on fire as well as AoE, or?

I would post my build, but all skill calculators i've tried seems inaccurate and/or not up to date.

It's always been on a five second cooldown, as far as I know.

Had the cooldown before.
Works well with high Power builds.
Is superior to Air. Unless there is something not shown on tooltip (e.g. higher cd or lower procchance?).

Could have sworn there was no CD oh, well. You reckon it's better than+5% dmg? With my current build I have about equal power/precision @ ~1800. I'll have to try it out for myself I guess.

lighting does more dps on single target... but only works on single target.
That means even if u whirl and u crit multi enemies, you will only proc on 1 target with lightinging.

When i was looking at damage it was equal to about a single extra hit, or a tad bit more.

Fire is a gignormous AoE.
When it proc's the target and a large area arround the target explode.
The damage is less then lightining, but its AoE.

If i had to guess approx damage.. id say.
Lighting ~ 1-1.5x weapon attack damage.
Fire ~ .5 - .75 AoE weapon attack damage.

Both have the same cooldown.

So if ur more into single target DPS quickly, lighting maybe better.
If your into event farming, and mob trainning / kiling, fire is a much better sigil.

rifle warrior? fire sigil is manditory, as it proc's on target and not weapon.
(meaning u throw your aoe on the proc..  :P)

Get the Major one, fire damage and cooldown is the same. The only thing that's different is 20% chance as opposed to 30%, but it's unnoticeable.

Tested both. Both have 30% to proc on crit. Both have the same internal cooldown. Both did the same damage to a single target (I think around ~950 with ~3k power). => Fire is better

Really?

cuz i could of sworn fire did less damage then lightinging..

if what you say is correct, then yes, fire >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> air.

Maybe there is a difference between the PvP and the "normal" version? Can someone confirm/deny that?

There is no difference between SPVP and PVE sigils.

Anyway the damage between sigils is NOT the same. I bought some steady weapons to make some tests.
The target was the Heavy Golem.

Steady Axe (damage 127-127)
First normal hit: 41

Fire sigil damage on target: 104
Fire sigil AOE damage: 94

Air sigil damage on target: 114

------------------------------------------------------

Steady Hammer (damage 135-135)
Damage: 2013
First normal hit: 92

Fire sigil damage on target: 112
Fire sigil AOE damage: 102

Air sigil damage on target: 123

I wrote the damage from basic hits just as reference. Anyway FOR NOW Sigil of Fire is way better than Air, because even if damage is a bit lower, you deal also AOE damage. And Air is bad on melee weapons because the Lightning Strike will be casted on the enemies who received the critical that activated the sigil, not the target of the attack.
So FOR NOW (caps necessary because ArenaNet may change it suddenly) Fire is better than Air in any case.

To be honest, I don't care how much damage they do, creating an assplosion of fire every 5-10 seconds is a delight to watch. I use fire in my greatsword.
