Talk to me about Starcraft 2.

I haven't played it yet (I know, crazy right? There's just so many games out there!), and I was wondering what you lot thought of it. Is it really as disappointing as people make it out to be or is it the classic case of people setting themselves up for disappointment by over-hyping it?
Don't just tell me if you think it's great or not, but WHY it's better, worse, or equal to the original Starcraft.
Thanks in advance to all those that reply!

My big problem with it is the interface is absolutely awful. Chat was laggy. No clan support. No lan. The custom game system is awful and has basically never worked right. The game itself is fun, but the actual features just aren't there. And with the "soon" mentality for any fixes, I just can't wait around anymore for it.
Heart of the Swarm beta is going on right now. You might want to wait it out a bit to see how the game shakes up with that release.

To start with your last point, I honestly, genuinely, and truthfully HATE how the Blizzard men in suits have devised their Starcraft scheme of turning one game into 3. Honestly, why would any original Starcraft player sit back and pay THREE times the amount of one game?! I have absolutely NO problem supporting game companies, but this is nothing short of a scandal.
That said.......wow, really? So is this rather a case of GREAT GAME.........poor implementation? The issues you listed are fairly classic of a game released too early, but that's hard to imagine given it's 11-year development time. I keep up with games, and I know full well the hilariousness (though they wouldn't use that word) surrounding say the D3 servers and SC2/D3 support, but all the functions you listed really are the too-early-to-release type of problems.
So, again, diamond in the rough, or something that was designed more by suits than gamers?

But yeah, the game itself is pretty fun. BNet2.0 however... is just a disgrace.

The battle net 2.0 experience is disappointing it took away many features from bnet 1 such as ingame tournaments/clans/host your own custom games and it literally added nothing new. I haven't played in a while but it's the same top 10 maps on the first page because of the popularity feature there are probably really good maps out there but they won't ever see the light of day because the further away from the 1st page you go the less likely players will join those games.

Concerning SC 2: It is fun to play 1v1/2v2. Or perhaps ffa. Anything else is ridiculous really. Single player has been totally wrecked. Jimmy transited from balding guy that is unsure of himself and yet ends saving universe to big Bad mofo Cowboy Space Marine(lol). On a side note-he grew hair? Lol. Sarah transited from mean, insidious and EXTREMELY cunning and cold blooded bitch to random monstrosity of "ME SMASH! ME EVIL!" type. Protoss have been thoroughly War of the Worlds-ised on one hand and thoroughly animed on the other hand. Gone is the Dark/brooding atmosphere of SC 1. Gone are the feelings of Heroes and villains. No Aldaris, no Tassadar, no Overmind, no Stukov/Duke/Du Galle. No nothing. Mengsk gets replaced by his snotty nosed son(!).
If you TRULY value what Starcraft stood for-AVOID the mockery that Starcraft 2 is...
It is fun though(but then again if you are going on brand appeal Card-make it Like part of said brand!)...
Oh and Balance is off. No perfect Balance Like in Starcraft...
SCREW YOU ROBERT "BOBBY" KOTICK MC SHOVEL IN THE FACE! How and why they let such EXTREMELY narrow minded and stupid people who are biggots to decide the fates of such large brands(Coca Cola/Starcraft/Warcraft/Diablo) is beyond me...

I've lost a lot of the faith I used to have in Blizzard, but their model for Starcraft 2 is justifiable - if a little frustrating when they've taken over two years to get to the beta for HotS when it's the Protoss campaign I'm really hanging out for.

Gives me enough time to actually finish Wings, since I keep getting distracted by quick matches.
