I basically just removed all armor and amulet in the PvP lobby and grabbed a vanilla weapon of each type (NOT steady, that makes it heavily skewed towards condition damage).  Then I went and whacked the light training dummy and timed how long it took to kill it.  To mitigate potential variation, I did each test a few times until I was sure I was hitting the average.  Most of the time I actually killed the dummy in the exact same amount of time anyway.

Anyway, the following is how long it took to kill something.  As such, lower is better:

Thief:
Dagger: 20
Sword: 23
Shortbow: 45
Pistol: 28

Warrior
Greatsword: 22
Rifle: 25
Mace: 34
Hammer: 22
Axe: 20
Longbow: 47
Sword: 18

Guardian:
Hammer: 18
Greatsword: 17
Sword: 17
Mace: 24
Scepter: 26
Staff: 33
Note: Guardian has Virtue of Justice, which kind of skews the numbers for hammer and sword, as those hit mutiple times per auto-attack chain and thus trigger burning much more often.

If someone wants to do this for necro and engineer, that would be helpful.  I haven't gotten around to rolling those yet.

I knew the Longbow autoattack was complete garbage for the Warrior.

Ranger:

Axe: 58s
Shortbow: 31s from the front, 18s from the flank
Longbow:  60s from 0-600, 47s from 1200-600, 35s from 1200+
Sword: 24s
Greatsword: 34s

I am pleasantly surprised to see the sword TTK for Warrior is so low.

If no one does it by the time I can play next, I'll do Necro.

There is a thread in the Elementalist forum which already contains this for all classes and weapons.  The original thread (linked to in that one) includes other things, such as Pets.

EDIT:
Found it: http://www.guildwars...n/#entry1914453

Guardian's sword autoattack on the 3rd hit hits 3 times even on a single foe, and thus applies VoJ every autoattack combo regardless how many enemies he's attacking.
1hit + 1hit + 3hits always equals to VoJ application.

Huh, well, that's pretty much exactly what I just did.  I guess I don't need to do this then.  Saves me a bit of work.

Problem is, like you said, many of the stats include innate conditions on their auto attack.

So this thread is to help people choose their class based on which is easiest to press 1 and win? Thanks for the contribution to the gw2 player base.  :(

Interesting thread, thanks for the work on this.

I havent made a guardian yet, but wouldnt it be possible to put on a different virtue to negate the VoJ factor?

Also, this was making me wonder if Guardians are a viable DPS option for a group. (kinda bored of my Warrior, and would like to try out a different profession)

This is an outdated thread.  I did an in-depth comparison of guardian DPS (and am working on one for engineer DPS) in their respective forums.

You need to look at the bigger picture. This ONLY accounts for the auto-attack, and using nothing that adds additional effects. When you actually -play- your profession, using skills and abilities besides the auto-attack, you'll see vastly different numbers. This also doesn't account for how things like stuns, cripples, blindness, etc. can have a huge effect on a battle.

For example - for ranged attacks on my Thief I actually switched from pistols to shortbow because I found i could kill things faster with the bow. The bleed and poison conditions the shortbow can cause, if I use my #2 and #4 skills, will eat away at an opponent. Plus the "bounce" of the arrow will hit multiple enemies. Admittedly, I primarily do PvE where a shortbow is clearly superior, especially when fighting groups... but even in PvP tossing out the area effects a shortbow has can mess with folks.

So, yes, if all you do is let your auto-attack do all the work for you, this chat will decide how you play the game. But if you take the time to study your weapons and use tactics, then you'll find charts like this are of little more than academic value.
