Everyone else regret their main?

Though playing alts I have realized they are not as amazing as I once thought, but still fun to me. Been playing Guardian lately, its pretty crazy how much ability Guardians have in comparison. But I can't seem to find a alt that I enjoy. I really enjoyed Mesmer for a bit, but then I felt kinda underwhelmed by like 20s~. Made a Warrior, was pretty fun, and I don't enjoy melee characters much. But decided to try a Guardian, which I am on now. I also have a Ranger, but wasn't really impressed by them. Oh and I do have an Engi, I thought being Grenade/bomber spec was pretty fun.

Mind you, I don't think they're weak in practice. Notice now I said "feels" weak. My main can output an impressive amount of damage and with certain utilities like Time Warp they're invaluable to a time-sensitive DE boss. It goes without saying that Moa Morph is a great elite too.
But my main problem with my main is that they got very boring to play in PvE, and it's easy to feel weak if you're pigeonholed and have few options to try after a wipe. It's a perception thing, ironically. It feels like a lot of the mesmer's utility skills are either extremely situational (portal, disenchanter), specifically designed as a PvP counter (null field, feedback) or just flat out garbage (mimic). If that lack of meaningful choices weren't bad enough by itself the only really effective mesmer weapons are sword+pistol, greatsword or staff.
And as if the mesmer wasn't already starved for variety in their day to day skills, their class mechanic is one dimensional. No matter what your build, everything you do centers around clones and phantasms.
So yeah. I really regret, on some level, centering my introduction to GW2 on a character class that simply feels unfinished and even somewhat untested. When I decided to stop waiting for a mainhand pistol mesmer, I rolled up an engineer and it was like night and day. I like my engie, but I really wish I could wear light armor instead.
I parked my mesmer for now, and will probably only bring her out if the upcoming holiday event needs max levels, or until ArenaNet finish designing the profession.

I play a ranger myself and had fun so far, even after exploring the whole world. I dislike a lot of things about the class, especially weapon balance, spirits and pets, but the part that I do like is fun. I also feel like underpowered professions/specs get a lot better when played properly. I've seen elementalists be incredible in both sPvP and dungeons.
Regarding armor, I think most exotics just look trashy in general. For example SE armor makes me look like a rusty old robot. The 200g precursor weapons look the same as a cheap level 20 bow. With all the amazing designs and graphics in this game, I wonder why gear design isn't a bit better. On the other hand I'm also kind of glad, because that means I can walk around with my rare armor without having anyone pushing me to get a full exotic equip.

My main is a Warrior, and even though I don't play it as much any more, I certainly do not regret playing it and picking warrior as my main.

I compare it more to watching two TV shows at the same time not being as enjoyable rather than just watching 1 TV show for the rest of my life. I play one until I'm bored and then switch to the other.

In fact its overplayed so much, some days on WvW might as well just be called GuardianVGuardian!
Maybe like many im spoiled by past games and experiences, but with the ease of replacing a character (short of gear if grinded and world explore) its way too easy to replace a toon in this game compared to others. Which in my eyes (coming from those grindy games of old) cheapens their value. Someone could easily create a clone of you in a few days.
In short then although this points (imo in wvw etc) at most playing a class for 'least resistance' or 'I like to win with no skill required' its a shame that the other classes are so avoided in comparison.
The weird way that they differ between what they can do in pve/pvp and the repeated nerfs, just makes the game downright annoying due to its really really oversimplistic nature. Thief for example, you can play it with skill yes, but wheres the diversity next to things like ele and warrior? how could you call such a thing a main, when it will get stale in a few weeks.
Ok so im branching away too much into gropes about the game -.-
Generally I dont regret my main, yet seeing carbon copies of maybe 3 classes everywhere and nothing else.. well you cant not sometimes wish for being rarer, rather than part of the zerg.
The lack of trinity seems to have created a whole new world of short term FoTM. I played one class in Aion, and many other games based on style, comftable that skill cap and achievement time frame ment that individuality ment something. As far as this game goes, its just clone wars lol.

For the armor looks, well I never cared about it, until I had my max armor since it would change every few days anyway. Why care about the look of an armor that you wear only until you get one with better stats? Besides I had my HoM skins, which I sometimes used if the armor looked like crap.

I played 7 of the 8 professions (didn't play Thief yet). My first was an Engineer and i still love the character and the gameplay, but i can't say that i have a main anymore. I prefer to do some dungeon with a particular profession so i play a similar amount of time with each of my profession depending on what i'm doing.
When i'm talking about people that don't understand their professions:

Seriously, the Mesmer is one of the few profession with 3 great elite skill. Time Wrap is see by the majority of people (even those who don't play mesmer) as on of the best elite skill (11 second of quickness for all 5 party member WOW). 5 second of invisibilty can get you out of trouble and Moa Transformation is alway nice too see on a boss.
The only profession that i don't like yet is the Ranger and i know that only because i don't have yet find the good playstyle for my with this profession, not because the profession is shit.

When I first played this game during the beta weekends I picked an engineer. I found it a truly frustrating class and eventually rolled another one as an alt after getting some experience playing GW2 under my belt. On the next beta I picked a guardian and found that to be pretty fun. When the Head Start kicked off, I had already sorted out who and what my main was gonna be.
Deviating off topic a bit, look through the Guardian forum subsection to get some ideas on a build of your own. I took a nice build and modified it for my playstyle. When I WvW I need at least one buddy to roll with, but I'm annoying as sin siegeing or defending.
OP of days long gone: I too found the Norn starting area to be a bit of a yawn. So I totally feel you there. At the same time a Norn ranger seemed a fun combo. I'm currently toggleing between an Elementalist and Engineer when I want to switch things up. Both are pretty low level, and I am not acclimated to their playstyle yet.
Hex.

It's not like he is more powerfull than my lvl80 war/ele/thief.
I just feel more confident with him, more experienced, so when something hard needs to be done (quickly jumping in Arah for lupicus or guiding 3 underlevelled people through a dungeon,...) I always go back to him.
Also when I'm wondering how I should spend my money, I always find it a waste if I don't spend it on him..
So all in all you could say I'm very glad with my main.

I actually felt the other way round. Mesmer was terrible until 30 and got much better after. Also have to disagree on the elite skill: few felt so supportive as those of the mesmer, especially since the sylvari gets the seed turrets including 3 seconds of invulnerability in addition to time warp and mass invisibility.
Personally, I regret making my starting char a human female warrior, as I'd rather have her be a charr. I wanted all armor classes with humans (achieved in Necro, Thief, Guardian) and really liked the Charr storylines and general attitude and "flair" so that would have made sense. No regrets about the warrior class itself though.

Warrior and Guardian is the ultimate want in the end.. I guess that goes for a lot of us.
