I have a lot of good times with my Elementalist.  And don't regret it one bit.  And Sylvari is still probably the best race for me, imo.  All my alts have the other races, and they aren't near as enjoyable for me.  I still prefer to get on my Ele and wreck faces or farm materials then leveling alts at the moment.

Though playing alts I have realized they are not as amazing as I once thought, but still fun to me.  Been playing Guardian lately, its pretty crazy how much ability Guardians have in comparison.  But I can't seem to find a alt that I enjoy.  I really enjoyed Mesmer for a bit, but then I felt kinda underwhelmed by like 20s~.  Made a Warrior, was pretty fun, and I don't enjoy melee characters much. But decided to try a Guardian, which I am on now.   I also have a Ranger, but wasn't really impressed by them.  Oh and I do have an Engi, I thought being Grenade/bomber spec was pretty fun.

I did for a little while. Then I realized I wasn't really playing it right. I rolled an engie for my main but didn't play to its strengths for a while. I chose engie over warrior or guardian, but now that I've experimented with different builds and such I'm more than satisfied.

Unfortunately, I do actually regret maining a mesmer to 80. It's sad because I loved the sheer number of things the class could do in GW1, especially with the right secondary profession. Fast Casting was just an awesome primary attribute. Going into GW2, the mesmer just feels weak and inconsistent.

Mind you, I don't think they're weak in practice. Notice now I said "feels" weak. My main can output an impressive amount of damage and with certain utilities like Time Warp they're invaluable to a time-sensitive DE boss. It goes without saying that Moa Morph is a great elite too.

But my main problem with my main is that they got very boring to play in PvE, and it's easy to feel weak if you're pigeonholed and have few options to try after a wipe. It's a perception thing, ironically. It feels like a lot of the mesmer's utility skills are either extremely situational (portal, disenchanter), specifically designed as a PvP counter (null field, feedback) or just flat out garbage (mimic). If that lack of meaningful choices weren't bad enough by itself the only really effective mesmer weapons are sword+pistol, greatsword or staff.
And as if the mesmer wasn't already starved for variety in their day to day skills, their class mechanic is one dimensional. No matter what your build, everything you do centers around clones and phantasms.

So yeah. I really regret, on some level, centering my introduction to GW2 on a character class that simply feels unfinished and even somewhat untested. When I decided to stop waiting for a mainhand pistol mesmer, I rolled up an engineer and it was like night and day. I like my engie, but I really wish I could wear light armor instead.

I parked my mesmer for now, and will probably only bring her out if the upcoming holiday event needs max levels, or until ArenaNet finish designing the profession.

I think most classes are currently stuck with a few really viable builds and a lot of possible builds that are not viable because they suck in comparison. Once they bring out a real balance patch, things should be better.

I play a ranger myself and had fun so far, even after exploring the whole world. I dislike a lot of things about the class, especially weapon balance, spirits and pets, but the part that I do like is fun. I also feel like underpowered professions/specs get a lot better when played properly. I've seen elementalists be incredible in both sPvP and dungeons.

Regarding armor, I think most exotics just look trashy in general. For example SE armor makes me look like a rusty old robot. The 200g precursor weapons look the same as a cheap level 20 bow. With all the amazing designs and graphics in this game, I wonder why gear design isn't a bit better. On the other hand I'm also kind of glad, because that means I can walk around with my rare armor without having anyone pushing me to get a full exotic equip.

Honestly I'm not the kinda person who had regrets, I had fun playing my ranger and then gearing him up into exotics.  But after seeing what many of the other classes can do I ended up finding out that the ranger is actually pretty weak.  Let alone the retarded nerfs and the way anet treated the ranger community.  Anyways I'm leveling a new class and enjoying it very much, 66 so far.

I used to have a main that I loved.  He is an asuran engineer.  I still love him, it's just now I seem to have 5 alts.  Maybe 4 mains and 1 alt as I'm not thrilled with my sylvari elementalist.

Although it is not my main, I have a lvl 80 ranger and I loved lvl'ing it to 80 and I continue to love playing it as well.

My main is a Warrior, and even though I don't play it as much any more, I certainly do not regret playing it and picking warrior as my main.

Some people just enjoy leveling up one character at a time.  I tend to pick one main and switch to a new main time and time again personally.  I considered my Elementalist my main at release and now my Guardian is my main.  If I swap back and forth constantly I tend to just lose interest in both of them.

I compare it more to watching two TV shows at the same time not being as enjoyable rather than just watching 1 TV show for the rest of my life.  I play one until I'm bored and then switch to the other.

My main went through stages, she went from light armor to medium armor and then to none.  I now have a new main, level 63+ ranger and I love her but I have three characters I play a lot.  My ranger, my level 48 guardian and now a level 21 elementalist.  I'm really happy with all three.

My main is a Human warrior and Im currently working on getting him Aurora armor. I love the warrior play style, yet I still haevn't found what weapons I like best. I always enjoy the up close melee and I have no regrets about making him, though I might play on my ranger a bit once his armor is finished.

Although my main is guardian, I do feel a lot like some people; I.e its just a class everyone ends up with.

In fact its overplayed so much, some days on WvW might as well just be called GuardianVGuardian!

Maybe like many im spoiled by past games and experiences, but with the ease of replacing a character (short of gear if grinded and world explore) its way too easy to replace a toon in this game compared to others. Which in my eyes (coming from those grindy games of old) cheapens their value. Someone could easily create a clone of you in a few days.

In short then although this points (imo in wvw etc) at most playing a class for 'least resistance' or 'I like to win with no skill required' its a shame that the other classes are so avoided in comparison.

The weird way that they differ between what they can do in pve/pvp and the repeated nerfs, just makes the game downright annoying due to its really really oversimplistic nature. Thief for example, you can play it with skill yes, but wheres the diversity next to things like ele and warrior? how could you call such a thing a main, when it will get stale in a few weeks.

Ok so im branching away too much into gropes about the game -.-

Generally I dont regret my main, yet seeing carbon copies of maybe 3 classes everywhere and nothing else.. well you cant not sometimes wish for being rarer, rather than part of the zerg.

The lack of trinity seems to have created a whole new world of short term FoTM. I played one class in Aion, and many other games based on style, comftable that skill cap and achievement time frame ment that individuality ment something. As far as this game goes, its just clone wars lol.

no regrets, i play and main a thief. best profession all round for my playstyle. all my other characters are "carried" by my thief, he provides for most of their gear. i have a mesmer and necro in the process of gearing-up for WvW.
a ranger, warrior and elementalist will follow once i level them, it will probably take a while tho, or never at all if i loose my interest.

I have a 51 warrior, 47 mesmer and now im lvling a thief (lvl 26 so far) and I think i finally found what's right for me :)

LvL 80 Norn Engineer and loving it. Love the race, love th class. I also have a Charr ranger, but I haven't played him much, somehow the ranger just bores me, even though I liked it in the beta. I also have a human ele, which I played to lvl 43, but I'm currently waiting for a friend to catch up so we can play together. Ele is fun too, but no class is even half as awesome as the engineer.

For the armor looks, well I never cared about it, until I had my max armor since it would change every few days anyway. Why care about the look of an armor that you wear only until you get one with better stats? Besides I had my HoM skins, which I sometimes used if the armor looked like crap.

I regret maining Ranger when I started the game because I think the class is quite lacking. The profession mechanic is arguably one of the worst in the game in regards to implementation. I thoroughly enjoyed the Norn storylines I completed with her but overall I find the damage of the class lacking and Rangers don't offer utility or support to rival what Guardians or Mesmers can bring to the table. So for now I have parked her in Hoelbrak holding some of my bank storage.

Yep, actually, I regret my main and my main-alt. My main being a Sylvari Mesmer, and my alt being a Human Guardian. Both of them feel terribly boring when you hit lvl 30. The mesmer's elite skills are extremely useless compared to the elite skills of other professions. Their weapon skills look dull, especially the mesmer's greatsword. "Pew pew. I'm using a badass greatsword to shoot a tiny lazer beam!" Christ..

People can dislike their character for several reason. But i think that the main reasons are they don't understant the profession well enough and they dislike the apperence of it (don't like armor choice, etc).

I played 7 of the 8 professions (didn't play Thief yet). My first was an Engineer and i still love the character and the gameplay, but i can't say that i have a main anymore. I prefer to do some dungeon with a particular profession so i play a similar amount of time with each of my profession depending on what i'm doing.

When i'm talking about people that don't understand their professions:

Seriously, the Mesmer is one of the few profession with 3 great elite skill. Time Wrap is see by the majority of people (even those who don't play mesmer) as on of the best elite skill (11 second of quickness for all 5 party member WOW). 5 second of invisibilty can get you out of trouble and Moa Transformation is alway nice too see on a boss.

The only profession that i don't like yet is the Ranger and i know that only because i don't have yet find the good playstyle for my with this profession, not because the profession is shit.

My main is a necro, I also have a level 80 warior, theif and ranger.  The necro is still my favorite to play, as with GW1 I like the variety of play styles that present themselves.  Additionally playing a Necro requires a lot of thinking and not so much facerolling.    Even the staff with its AOE marks still requires thought as the effects of the marks can play to both support and damage.  No regrets here at all

I have an 80 Guardian too, and I actually like it. I think part of your problem is how you spec your character.

When I first played this game during the beta weekends I picked an engineer. I found it a truly frustrating class and eventually rolled another one as an alt after getting some experience playing GW2 under my belt. On the next beta I picked a guardian and found that to be pretty fun. When the Head Start kicked off, I had already sorted out who and what my main was gonna be.

Deviating off topic a bit, look through the Guardian forum subsection to get some ideas on a build of your own. I took a nice build and modified it for my playstyle. When I WvW I need at least one buddy to roll with, but I'm annoying as sin siegeing or defending.

OP of days long gone: I too found the Norn starting area to be a bit of a yawn. So I totally feel you there. At the same time a Norn ranger seemed a fun combo. I'm currently toggleing between an Elementalist and Engineer when I want to switch things up. Both are pretty low level, and I am not acclimated to their playstyle yet.

Hex.

My main is lvl80 Guardian and although lately I don't play often on him (needed Arah for dungeon master and full zerker Warrior is so much fun there, and I level my alts in AC/CM/...) I always get back to him when difficulty rises.

It's not like he is more powerfull than my lvl80 war/ele/thief.
I just feel more confident with him, more experienced, so when something hard needs to be done (quickly jumping in Arah for lupicus or guiding 3 underlevelled people through a dungeon,...) I always go back to him.
Also when I'm wondering how I should spend my money, I always find it a waste if I don't spend it on him.. :P

So all in all you could say I'm very glad with my main.

I actually felt the other way round. Mesmer was terrible until 30 and got much better after. Also have to disagree on the elite skill: few felt so supportive as those of the mesmer, especially since the sylvari gets the seed turrets including 3 seconds of invulnerability in addition to time warp and mass invisibility.

Personally, I regret making my starting char a human female warrior, as I'd rather have her be a charr. I wanted all armor classes with humans (achieved in Necro, Thief, Guardian) and really liked the Charr storylines and general attitude and "flair" so that would have made sense. No regrets about the warrior class itself though.

The only character I leveled was a Warrior. I was able to do all of the PvE content I was interested in, while I'm sure I would have missed 5-10% of that content with a different class. Unfortunately, the class isn't well suited to the stealth/clone fest that is most of PvP/WvW, so while I probably bought myself a dozen extra hours of PvE entertainment, I missed out on 100+ hours worth of PvP.

I've happily avoided pet classes ever since I dropped my hunter in WoW, coming up on eight years ago. The real safe bet is stealth+burst, since there's always a developer which favors the design, and it invariably never gets nerfed properly.

I kinda changed mains, but not because I regretted my first main.  My first main was an engineer I leveled to 80 doing only wvw.  Then did engineer a bunch in spvp/tpvp.  Absolutely loved it, played around with different builds, etc.  But after a while I wanted some ez-mode, so I rolled a ranger.  Now I can kill stuff without playing Bach on my keyboard.
