I just made a new Sylvari Ranger and trying to get to 2nd tier for the Jaguar - but what should I look for as my 2nd pet?

I started off with the Fern Hound (think that is what it is called?) and it is okay for now = but I would like to upgrade AND have two Good Pets - suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That depends completely on how you build your character. My advice would be to just tame whatever you come across and play with the ones you like best. You can google or wiki the pets as well to find them all to tame.

There really aren't "upgrades" in Ranger pets.  The difference between pets is that each one in a family has a different F2 skill. Many of these will apply a different condition, while a few have different effects, such as the Brown Bear curing conditions.  Depending on your build, playstyle and situation one pets's F2 may be more useful to you than another's.

As a Ranger you can tame all different pets and keep them all permanently, then swap out the ones you're using based on what you need at the time.  You're best bet is to tame all the pets you can find, play with them and see what you like and fits well with your build.

Personally, In PvE I tend to use Canine+Feline or Canine+Bear for damage and conditions, but in dungeons I'll usually switch to Brown Bear for tanking and condition removal and Fern Hound for the regeneration.

I personally like having my fern hound for the regeneration buff (and...okay, also for aesthetic reasons ) and I keep a bear as my secondary.

Where is the Sylvari Bear - or is there one? Do I need to go to a different area for a bear? I have looked at the Pet Guides and found all kinds of critters for pets - but can't seem to find a Sylvari area for a bear?

So for now I will keep my Fern Hound and look for something else to tame and keep that up til I find what I like - THANKS again for the info!

You can find a Murellow is Brisban Wildlands, which is the Sylvari/Asuran 15-25 zone.  For the others you'll have to go to another region.  This is a great guide for pet locations: http://www.guildwars...rexs-pet-guide/

I guess I got confused when 'bear' is by type = Brown Bear, Black Bear etc (example) as is Moa - the guide I looked at didn't say Which Bear/Moa was in what area = and I didn't take the time (my bad) to look-up each one to see where to find them. Well I Figured out the Polar Bear on my own LOL.....

Is there one Bear that is more used than others = say like the Feline players seem to like the Jaguar/Linx best of the cats.

Probably the Brown Bear.  Shake It Off is one of our most effective condition removals.  I see Black Bears and Polar Bears a lot too.

That is the best way to find pets, IMO.  You will find many pets as you play through the areas.  I strongly recommend trialing every pet you find, rather than simply using what someone else told you.  The fact is that there is no single Pet that is `best'.  They all work better for one individual person's playstyle or another.

I personally use a brown bear and a polar bear ( i think thats what its called) they tank for me i just stand back and when one is about to die i switch it with the other one to get that 2s quikness lol.

I swap pets on situation.  My go-to are the brown bear and white moa for the condi removals and healing for pve.

spvp i'll run fern hound and arctic wolf for the knockdowns.

wvw, i'll run a spider and brown bear/wolf depending on siege or running around open field.

First tameable pet i found when i tried a sylvari was the forest spider you can get when you go up that spiral to get the chest., it's ranged and pretty useful.

For almost everything, there's a wide variety of pets that work well.  If you want a pet to be a glass cannon, go with the Jaguar and pop your cooldowns when it stealths (since it does big damage with stealth damage bonus).  If you want something to take hits for you, grab a bear.  If you want something to do AoE damage, grab a drake.  If you want something to support, go with a moa or fern hound.  If you want something to deal damage without dying much, use a ranged pet like a devourer or spider.

sPvP is the only place where I feel that only certain pets work (wolf + jungle spider).

i just starded a ranger

atm i use brown bear and white wolf
i so much love wolfs even in real life ^^

but ok but i see alot of high lvl ranger use spiders alot and mostly that black widow

Black widow is a hall of the monuments reward only.   I think spiders are used so often is because they are ranged pets, with some pretty useful  F2 abilities.

I believe there is a spider with the same f2 as a black widow too...dunno which.

I also have a human ranger with a brown bear - I think it is my fav so far - because of the "shake it off". She also has a hawk (or eagle??) that is just 'ok'. Not sure what else I want for her = she is my 'main' at this time and still only lvl 34.

My Sylvari still has her fern hound - which I still like - but going to send her to Norn area for the brown bear. I can't remember what she has as 2nd ?? But thinking of trying a moa as well. She is still only lvl 20 (I think) so still New. I find the amount of trees to be a problem gathering and seeing on the map LOL.

What is the difference in the Moa's? Which has the heal? I can find locations and pics - but no "stats" for the pets. What am I missing?
