Hello my fellow explorers! I present to you my new Guild Wars 1 locations on the Guild Wars 2 map, or as I like to call it "A Historical Guide to Tyria". First of all, let me tell you what’s new:
  • Based on the release map (previous one was based on beta)
  • I've visited almost all locations in game and adjusted all locations accordingly
  • Zone names are now on the map
  • Bonus mission pack locations are now on the map
  • Added some interesting points that have more behind them than meets the eye
  • Higher resolution! More pixels! Oink!
To give you a rough idea how the map was made:
  • Placed the Guild Wars 1 map on top of the Guild Wars 2 map
  • Mark all outposts, missions, cities, dungeons and zone names
  • Go through every zone on the wiki and mark possible points of interest
  • Visit and verify all locations in Guild Wars 2 (Nicholas and Yakkington would be proud)
  • Adjust the offset on some locations
  • Do the last 3 steps again for Guild Wars 2 locations that could be in Guild Wars 1
I will post a long list of locations and how they have changed over time in a comment below. If you happen to find any errors or locations missing please don't hesitate to tell me. I've also posted a long list of the locations in my original thread on reddit.

Nicely done :D The world of Guild Wars has changed! I hope to visit the other places from Prophecies like the Crystal Desert and even the Maguuma Wastes sometime :) Maybe even the Ring of Fire!

Awesome! One of my greatest joys if finding places from guild wars in GW2 ^_^

Never noticed until now that the outspread, southern end of the dragonbrand is centered around the dragons lair ;)

A quick question that isn't really related to the comparison, but to the gw2 map.

How did you uncover the fog in the northern part of the Harathi Hinterlands? Or did you edit that bit in?

The original map is build from images in the .dat file, I've brushed all the fog around the edges myself and forgot to "remove" that part in the north.

Well, it looks much better this way. Those misplaced bits of fog in game are kind of annoying.

That's neat, just when I think I run out of stuff I haven't seen. :)

Edit: So am I seeing the right, the floating wizard tower has moved? O.o

I think you forgot to talk about the Granite Citadel.

Great work though, I was looking for something like this. :)

I was thinking it would be pretty neat if anet actually released something like this that you could select on the map as an overlay.

Gah! I spent so long searching for anvil rock in gw2, but now with this map I see its outside of the currently included zones :( .

Awesome work though, kudos!

Thank you very much for making this map, and to Aventurian for making it zoomable. It ties the 2 games together and makes the new GW map much more meaningful to me. I sent it to our guild Facebook for the others in our guild to enjoy. :)

Thanks for this!

I started to get into GW1 just a couple of weeks before GW2, so I'm still a newbie and was having trouble figuring out how some of these places matched up.

I had a tough time loading the map in the link so I dont know if youve gotten this already or not, but the cauldron that the charr leader used in the cinematic that illustrated the searing in GW1, is also in this game. I think you also see it on The Great Northern Wall mission from GW1.

Its not too far from the piken square ruins, I forget the zone name but its just a bit SE I think from it.
Something on your mind? Question about Moderation or anything else? Talk to Me.

Well done, very awesome! :) I was looking for the Twin Serpent lakes and I have the feeling they actually put them a bit to the northeast of their original position. The two bodies of water you can see kinda resemble them.

Woops! Thanks for that, will fix that with the next version.

I'm going to write the editors of the Oxford dictionary and suggest that they use a thumbnail of this map to illustrate the definition of the word "superlative". It's everything I could have wished for in an overlay map and more.

Wow, fantastic job! I'm totally revisiting some of my favourite Prophesies locations using your map as a guide! My only (tiny) criticism is it would've been nice if you'd greyed out the names of GW1 locations that you either can't actually visit in GW2 or of which no trace remains.

On an unrelated note, what the hell happened in the Southern Shiverpeaks? Global warming? I've been to that part of the map but tbh I never even noticed that those locations corresponded to snow-capped peaks in Prophesies!

OK just checked the wiki and they're claiming it's the eruption of Mt Maelstrom that caused the ice to melt, which I find kinda funny personally - don't they know that the ash cloud from the volcano would've made the surrounding area EVEN COLDER in real life? :P
