i ahve the radeon hd 6870, is this a good card?  what is comparable NVidia wise and what nvidia products is it better than?

It's roughly 5% slower than a gtx560 Ti and 5% faster than a gtx560. That's where it fits in with the lineup :)

If you want to check if your computer will run GW2, check here.

If you find out you can't and need to think about upgrading or building another, check here.

I prefer nVidia for 3D Vision 2. AMD can't really touch them in 3D gaming.

But nothing touches AMD for multi-monitor gaming. 3D Surround is getting there -- just need more VRAM on nVidia cards at lower prices.

Both are very competitive, though AMD has pulled out all the stops with their pricing to get the edge. Can't really recommend a Kepler card right now, considering the price:performance of AMD's, unless that person intends to do a lot of 3D gaming.

Pretty much this. AMD have the market cornered at the moment outside of specific cases, just due to aggressive pricing. My only explanation for Nvidia's lack of reaction (considering keplar are just as cheap, if not cheaper, to produce) is that Nvidia aren't used to being so much on the back foot.

They've been behind since the gtx4 series in one way or another (Fermi really did a number of their schedule), but they've always been saved by their gtxX60 cards and their best card being the fastest. However this time the GTX660 Ti has been a flop. The hd7970 beats the gtx680 now due to overclocking being vastly better on the former with drivers really being great for AMD this generation, so i'm wondering if they're floundering a little in panic.

Hopefully they can get the gtx7 series out a little sooner than next August!

I have downloaded and installed this.  After taking recommendations from some of the settings that everyone has posted and even messing with them myself, I can see a difference.

Now I am still in the trying it out phase.  I cant see that the difference is enough at this time.  Maybe when the injector is updated and includes the GUI it will interest me more.  I am going to keep messing with it and wait until the author has the next version  ready to see if I keep it or not.

Jentari if you press the scroll lock key in game you can turn it on and off, maybe that'll help you see the difference it's making.

Oops, misread your post, thought you said you can't see a difference :zip:

For me the changes are very subtle, my game looks warmer.  Not sure the anti aliasing is doing much though.  In Borderlands 2 the AA was excellent but in GW2 I don't really see it.

everyone getting strange errors when exiting the game - check for any background programs running, especially the ones with a OSD - EVGA precision, MSI afterburner, etc.

i had this, and shutting down MSI afterburner solved it. using fraps for capturing now.

Yeah, I know about the scroll lock, I am still playing with it, maybe will find a setting the really speaks to me.

Sorry haven't had any errors exiting the game, but I am also not using MSI afterburner, so as you have found by removing it it solved the problem.

The game looks significantly better with this injection. The only drawback being it cuts my fps significantly in WvW, but since I am not a PC gamer type I don't notice it unless I check. (ty consoles that only  run on 30 fps, you get use to low fps).

I don't think I can go back to how shitty it looks without the injection.

Ok so i just tried the sweetfx injecter and OMG its like night and day, it looks SO much better. Just remember to disable post processing and fxaa.

There is no more blur and no more of that insane overglow or whatever its called. 10/10 recommend.

Honestly its like a completely different game

That's probably bloom, if you had post-processing turned on in game. Some people like bloom for whatever reason.

yes that sounds about right, the reason i've always had it on was because without it the colors would completely desaturate but the sweetfx makes colors 'normal' again. bloom can look good for some things but it seems like the just went completely insane with it in gw2 and soaked everything in it.

The guy you were quoting was also supremely stupid as well, so don't think i'm just picking you out :)

hehe well I'm not exactly stupid (well like to think anyways)

amd just totally owns nvidia in about every way from my experience this last couple of years.. I used to run nvidia since 2008 with the g80 8800gtx- even had it overclocked to ultra speed using a thermalright hr-03+ and soldered in the variable resistor to increase voltage.. I've spent a lot on parts and fabricating my own parts for my rigs.. I used to be very active in the evga forums and was the guy who solved the overheating issue when the 9800gtx released

I'm just tired of nvidia to tell you the truth.. I mean if you play bf3 fine.. but peeps like to pretend physx is something other than a huang gimmick.. all of us involved in tech know what physx is.. funny they've been gimping it on cpu since they bought out aegia

just tired of all the bs with nvidia.. my last card was the 460- which had running stable at 850 (awesome overclocker).. but far as gpu gpu- well they blow.. stanford has been paid off- that farce went on forever with folding.. see he's an alumni there

I visit stanford every 6 months.. I've been to the engineering wing he built there..

http://news.stanford...ing-092408.html

it's like they put the ati client on a loop back in the day.. was a total joke- I got nothing but hate trying to blow that one open.. but when look at open source software like pyrit you see the real story..

Posted Image

a 480 does what- 28000 pmks and a 580 around 38000 pmks.. same story with bitcoin- also open source and guys had all the incentive to optimize those clients when coins were selling

here's my current 6970 with custom made sinks and the ducting done on a 260 on a older rig.. I build things- even none computer related things we will not discuss here lol =D and I know ass to the face when I see it.. nvidia is strait ass to the face right now- I seen guildwars on my 460.. even without optimizations

guys try to deny it.. but it's like not having the holloween slippers

So I searched. Couldn't find anything.

I looked up official responses from ANet and a GM said it was bannable, but Gaile, herself, says that the GM isn't exactly correct. She can't give it a direct OK, but hints that it's not necessarily grounds for banning since it doesn't give an unfair advantage.

SMAA is far superior to GW2's default FXAA, which simply looks blurry, without using a huge amount of resources.
Thanks, the game looks 300x better now
