Current State of the Game. Fun? Population? Will you continue to play?

I think the game released with an utterly massive amount of content. It's comforting to know that ANet is committed to releasing what seems to be a major content patch every month or two. That's promising, and something only a few other MMOs can boast. It's also comforting to see how nimble the developers at ANet have the ability to be. When an exploit or game-breaking bug is found, they are able to shift their focus and fix it as soon as possible (the manner in which they fix some of them is controversial, I know - another conversation for another time).
As others have mentioned, it seems as if the problem here is the player. The expectations are too high. It's unreasonable to expect a game (or application) of this magnitude to release without bugs. It's unreasonable to expect a game to come out with infinite content. It doesn't seem as if the people that complain could ever be realistically satisfied. Ideas are suggested and often preceded by the phrase, "It would be easy to..." With hundreds of thousands of people playing and millions of lines of code, nothing that appears easy is easy.
Personally, I'm at 350+ hours, and I cannot tell you the last time I got that much enjoyment out of a game for $60.

Have 2 lvl 80, one @ 100% map, the other 67%, and still enjoy every DE, every vista, every PvP-Match, the WvW...and yeah, i still love the dungeons.

If anything this new content is making me want to play the game even more! I am amazed at Anet, their ambition and the amount of free content and constant tweaks/bug removals/fixes makes me confident that this game will continue to evolve and grow with those who stick it out

As iffy as the air's been lately, it's still nice knowing there isn't a threat meter...

So have I, I've been a GW1 puritan ad I've let many people know it, but I still enjoy the game immensely.

I've got my first precursor now and will save up for the mats without grinding anything. I'll see how long that takes me

Levelling a guardian atm, it's quite enjoyable (although 80 levels feels like 20 too many).
As many people say, it's still one of the best mmo's around.
It's just that it could have been better.

I could care less about the precursors, I would have liked to Join and try the so called "Epic" event that took place if only it had been accessible to us at anytime during that day but Final Chest would only be lootable once per account. Would've save them alot of hate and players.
I invited some of my friends for the trial and even some old ones that quit to try the events. Needless to say they went back to whatever they were playing.
Overall I still like the game, I like the community. But hopefully Anet rethinks future events or at least does tests before they implement them to the masses.

GW1 was and is a great game now many seemed to dislike the alterations anet made to that game whereas I saw almost every change as good.
That is why I think GW2 will really be something by this time next year, hopefully it will not take that long.
As each expansion to gw1 arrived it seemed a little better, I think this was because they condensed the character progression into a smaller area and time frame, allowing more areas for the lvl 20 character to experience.
Even though henchmen were in the game from the start heroes were seen to be a party killer.
Not so player attitudes and speed clearing killed party play heroes just let those who didn't fit in a chance to get in on the action.
I believe Ai help will come to this game too as so far as my experiences go the Dungeon areas are not friendly places and some players can be complete *es when it comes to letting others join.
I would like to see more but tougher areas like the Bandithaunt Caverns from the human start area.
A multi lvl dungeon totally open to whoever wandered in might be awesome.
Players want to play and even *es would rather play than stand around outside a dungeon waiting for parties.

I used to love the charr. I've not touched my charr or GW2 in a while. I'm now playing ME3's multiplayer, as is a lot of my group. Hell, I've been poking people on tumblr toward that as a fun alternative to the grind, and recently my tumblr dashboard has gone from being all GW2 to all ME3. If I can have zippy, happy, funtimes in ME3 with AI that isn't actually dumb, then... why do I need GW2? I'm just happy playing my geth. GW2 lost me.

I haven't tried Fractals of the Mists yet....as good as it sounds, I feel slightly put off by the Ascended gear simply because I am not a big dungeon fan, the earlier dungeons actually put me off doing dungeons for a while, but to recognise the fact that a dungeon is the only means to getting access to the newest tier armor is not appealing to me. I am a very busy person....I don't have hours upon hours each day to grind in a dungeon, so I was relying on other means to be able to "keep up" on the whole armor thing.
I believe someone from ANet said there would be other means of getting Ascended armor....when? As someone else mentioned, this should have been added anyway, because I remember Colin Johanson saying a long time ago that people who do not want to do dungeons would be able to get equal-quality armor through crafting and other means. This isn't the case right now.
Anyway I love the game, I think it's fantastic and is the best MMO I've ever played. It's not perfect, I feel the gem store is too expensive, and frankly could do with more cosmetic items. The population is fine on the server I am, however people talking more to each other wouldn't hurt. Even if you are in a party, people don't reply. It's almost as if they are in their own bubble, and that isn't ANet's fault, that's people not having any basic manners, that can't be patched I'm afraid.

Once I missed out on the final Halloween event that killed all my urges to continue playing. For me playing the game comes in spurts which really is bad because if I have no urge to play something I lose interest fast. I have to be actively playing and thinking about a game to keep up.
I don't like going in and out of games especially MMOs because you miss so much and for me once I am out it's hard to get back into it. I know Anet pride themselves on that drop in or out whenever you want style but it really hurts the game sometimes. MMOs really don't work well with that kind of model because things are constantly changing.
I know you can still do the dungeon but it's a matter of doing it when it's fresh because with GW2 you just never know where the game will be in only a week. If you don't catch an event during the first day it's usually patched to hell and changed in a hurry.

It has no endgame because it's the same as start game, kind of refreshing that way, don't have to do hours of crap to get to the good stuff, it's just what it says on the tin.
I mean there's still a lot of fixes and patches that need to be done, but it's been live for a month, I'll be sticking around for a while.
This. And I think we can sum up by saying "it's a casual gamer's mmorpg," as in, it plays more like a standard rpg game than a mmo. Personally, that's why I love this game and see myself playing it for a long time to come. I don't fall behind on progression and yet I know that if I really want to, at some point, I can experience all the content the game has to offer. Yet, it isn't a player vs. world experience like Skyrim, it is a vast world with tons of other players to interact with and work together (why I prefer mmos). The pvp system needs work but at least it is one in which I can ignore the gear grind and focus only on skill -- like a FPS? Awesome.
Anet will lose a lot of people that miss raiding, but this is OK (and it's perfectly OK for people who enjoy raiding to go back to a game that has it.) Raiding in WoW was one of my favorite gaming experiences ever but due to a career and family now that is something I will never have time for and so I needed something like GW2.
Sidenote: I do agree that removing the trinity looked better on paper than in practice. It would be nice to work around this but until someone thinks of something that works (GW2 nice try but no cigar), mmorpgs need the trinity to keep dungeons fun.

Also too many bugs and my client keeps crashing during event finales whenever there are too many players in the screen. I couldn't log back into the instance as they are full. It is so frustrating to play.

It's a shame though. I played the game nonstop for two months and I didn't see myself stoping for a while. I didn't care about the cost of the legendaries or the most expensive armors (T3), I was slowly working for them. I was in full rare, didn't have any exotic yet. Had a blast with Halloween, was doing dungeon slowly, wasn't stressed about anything. I was also looking forward the big november update.
Then the announces etc.
It hurted my fun in a way. Knowing there would be another tier to look for, its costs, the fact that everybody would be running the fractal from now on. Adding to that the buggy week-end and the stupid one-time event reward and my joy is now gone. Before, I could log on and farm for a bit, but now I just have the feeling it's not worth it because Arenanet will soon or later nerf (again) any good way to get gold.
We get money so slowly in this game it's discouraging. Doing a dungeon run takes good preparation and up to two hours at least; I don't always have this time in front of me. When I go to Orr, it's a question of luck. Either I get lucky or not, can't control this much. And last time I went there, it was pretty empty.
The ascended gear really killed my joy. Maybe I made a big deal out of it too, but before, I could see myself taking the slow route because exotic was the last step and nobody would go ahead of this. Now I just feel so late behind most players, with the fractal levels and such. It created a urge to get exotic very fast, so I ruined my gold in the trading post, very afraid to miss upcoming contents since they added Ascended only 3 months post-release.
Now I'm there, with only 3 gold. I don't have any motivation in farming Orr. 35 gold for an ascended piece. More for an infusion. 119 gold for T3 armor. Travel cost, repair cost, long dungeon and short/not rewarding much fractal, nerfed events, every little way to make gold are nerfed. I'm full magic find and I still MOSTLY find blue.

Reasons:
End-game gear grind. I wanted a pick-up-and-play online game, not a grind.
PvE tactics end-game are dire, the Karka event showed us that. To scale fights up enough to be challenging for a large group of players they have to oneshot us, which is not fun. Large events do not feel epic when it's a zerg. Where are the complex and fun fight tactics aka Yogg Saron, Shade of Aran etc? Currently it's just everyone go ranged and pray the boss/mobs don't hit you.
PvP has laughable balance.
Terrible economy, too many goldsinks.
Final note : I miss the trinity. It was a bold move, but I think it makes small dungeons a lot better. It does not benefit dynamic or large events so I can see why anet did not use it, but I also believe those large events (eg the karkas) would have been better as a 10-man dungeon.

You cannot be a serious player if you think gear progression in pvp is a good thing. Gear advantages in pvp is a crutch and bad design- that is not to say pvp rewards are not needed. This is talking about spvp of course.
