For all you people that want to speed their way to 80 on their alts.

Written Guide:

I created this guide because after getting my main to 80, I wanted to "powerlevel" my alts to 80. I looked around for a guide, but found none. There was some research done and trial and error, and I've decided to share this guide with you guys. There are obviously faster ways to level, but this guide doesn’t really incorporate crafting. I’m trying to show you a good way to take advantage of these dynamic event chains to level up fairly quickly.

Video guides: the WORST POSSIBLE WAY to convey information.
They're slow, linear, and usually (I haven't watched yours, so this isn't about you specifically) poorly done/shot/recorded/written/edited so much so it's painful to watch. (And too often they're just people posting some irrelevant crap, hoping to fluff their viewcount.)

If you have a list of DE 'chains' to follow....just write the list down.  Then share it with us.  It would be much appreciated!

If you were getting 1 shot on your warrior at the centaur events (15-25)

I don't even wanna imagine how it would be for light armored classes. How do I even get to the camp? lol

might want to fix that part

Edit: what about fields of ruin -> blazeridge steppes for 40+?

Yeah 15-20 is the only painful and frustrating part but once you're past that it's easy. And in general, light armored classes wouldn't even be hit I think, because you can just stand back and use ranged attacks. An elementalist for example could just use meteor shower and hide behind everyone else.

And I'm not sure what camp you're referencing haha...

And for fields of ruin and blazeridge steppes idk if there are any good event chains...I'll have to go check it out! Thanks!

Definitely craft 60-70, it's quick and gets you to Orr asap where you can quickly level the rest of the way.  You can even go 55-70 quite easily with crafting.

You should also consider WvW Camp flipping at any level beyond 30 when you're bored.  Get a group of 5 and you can probably do 6-10 camps an hour plus sentry and caravans along the way for solid karma, gold and xp.

i think the problem with the 15-35 DE farm is that you have to be around lvl 20 to go there. i remember trying lvl 18/19 and i did not get credit for DE and the kills came in very sparingly.

suggest you group up to make it easier.

Thanks for this guide!! On a side note my level 18 guardian was able to get golds on all 3 DE in Kessex hills using a staff for a little bit of AoE damage for the first one and a sword/GS for the other two, the only real problem dying while doing the second DE.

Thanks for this guide!  I can only play for 2 hours a day some days and getting my Daily done is a pain if I can't find the events to spawn.  Now I will just park characters at the appropriate spot, and they will lvl up fast too.

you may want to add this to your guide, In Sparkfly Fen (55-65 area) theres an small Isand with Hylek, the WP is Astrozintli Forelands, there are about 5 events that go on around there.

3 DE
  • (57) Defend the south gate (Astrozintli Foregrounds)
  • (57) Defend the west gate (Astrozintli Foregrounds)
  • (57) Reclaim the southern beach from the Orrian undead (Astrozintli Foregrounds)

  • and 2 group event
  • (58) Defend the Zintl Holy Grounds (Astrozintli Foregrounds)
  • (58) Retake the Zintl Holy Grounds (Astrozintli Foregrounds)

  • they happen one after another with about a minute or 2 cooldown (this is more towards the DE, not the group event)
  • I was there last night and got 5k exp per event. another great thing about this area is that there crafting stations  inside the camp. so you can deposit all your stuff into your bank when you start getting full. this can be a good alturnative than grinding the Bloodtide coast once you reach the proper level for it,

Any recommended events that are as good as the pair at Jelako, for 65 and beyond?  I tried finding something in Fireheart Rise as suggested but that map was craptastic and I've gone back to Mount Maelstrom.  Sparkfly Fen had a decent one last week, but peeps have moved on (levelled past me since I switched to another alt) and its dead except for random bots running around.

I m just worried that i might see more risen, since i m basically pissed off by them already.

For 60-70 im doing Sparkfly Fen, at Splintered Coast Waypoint(Southwest Part), there are two events that are quite frequent and easy to tap for credit, and people in chat seem to be nice about announing other events around the map. Also teq(undead dragon) comes up every 2-3 hrs so extra chest and exp there.

Kessex hills appears to be recently nerfed, with one event no longer starting immediately after the last event was completed.  Any suggestions for an alternate leveling path?

Has ANet nerfed this? Because I tried the event chain on Harathi and you have to wait like 5-10 min to restart. Don't know if it is worth it.

Some of the changes have actually been to the benefit of legit players.

Kessex hills bridge event changed dramatically since the posting of the original here.  It was done to remove the incredibly thick bot and button-repeating-afkers from just camping on the bridge.  This chain still works but aren't directly tied in to the bridge.  The Centaur Lieutenants do not necessarily wait until after the bridge to trigger.  The overlord always triggers after the Lieutenants are dispatched, however.

Harathi event has a longer wait time, but I think what has happened is these events have some sort of delay based on players in the area, and since there are far, far fewer players pre-80 now the events do not restart so fast.  This could have also been a direct nerf to slow down progression from purely using events, but I sorta doubt such a draconian measure.

Jelako event is rarely done on any server.  I have moved across a handful of servers with mixed results.  It is pure random to find anyone else doing this event chain.  The bots that were there for a couple of weeks are all gone, banned.  This makes it very hard now with so few pre-80s levelling off events.  You end up here solo and that is painful, but there is an answer.

For Jelako if there aren't enough peeps to do it (at least 2 55+ IMO) then let the invasion event fail and pick up by clearing the undead event.  This event was recently changed (nerfed) to the benefit of legit players.  No more OP veterans spitting you down and fast Risen replacements spawning.  Completely soloable if you are 48+ or 46 with pet.  The egg event is a bit harder if you are under level 50 and solo.

Now to a location NOT listed so far in this thread.

75-80 (can be 74 but peeps will probably complain about your low level):

Cursed Shore - Plinx Event

I managed today to get my Ranger from 75-80 in 2 hours and 20 mins.  I am sure you can do better, but I thought that was pretty damn good.  I used Undead Slaying food and 50% xp bonus from daily rewards I had saved up (BLTC/chest items too).  You don't need the 50% xp bonus, I was just pushing my speed as much as I could.  Guild Banners help too.  Be sure to party up to increase your event damage potential.

YouTube: Plinx

The above video is not by me, just one I found.

Step 1 should be getting 100% exploration from each city.  Going from level 2 you'll get to level 8 and the experience does not scale for each exploration point (static 60 exp for POIs, 100 for Vistas and Waypoints) so that experience is only worth it at low levels, and it is the fastest period to gain levels. So every character can start combat at level 8, completing one starter zone will get you to level 15 easily.

Crafting will add 10 levels to a character for every crafting profession completed (to level 400), so you can plan when you want to start crafting to skip an entire level range. On my ranger I skipped from level 40 to 60 through crafting. You have to have the materials saved up or enough gold to buy the materials if you haven't been gathering.

Keeping up with the story can be worthwhile as well. Story missions around your level can give you a quarter of the experience to the next level for a very short mission. Completing a zone can also give about a quarter of the experience to the next level. Don't be afriad to mix it up. Some events also cross renown (heart) areas as well, so you can complete both at the same time, and a few events will cross multiple renown areas.

Krazzer, Exploration is too slow.  Hearts are too slow.  For a main character who wants a legendary eventually, somebody who wants to soak in the game and enjoy the lore, exploration makes sense, but not for anybody else.

I am leveling alts with events, just parking alts in spots where lots of events are always up, so I can hit my dailies in 30-40 mins on off days.

Anyways with Kessex hills nerfed, I am using Diessa Plateau -- Butcher's block, where there are 5 DEs nearby, and at least one seems to always be up.  But this is Realistcally only good until 25ish, and I need a new spot to get to 35.

As soon as you hit 60, it's all much faster because you should go after zone completion - 60~70 maps yield exotics for 100% completion, which can be thrown into Forge or salvaged for cool runes. Go Fireheart and Maelstrom as soon as you can.

Exploring each city first is literally the fastest leveling availible in the game and it only applies early on because the exp does not scale up for each POI/Waypoint/Vista. The cities contain no hearts. Please be sure to finish reading sentences when posting.

What is your current quickest leveling time to 80? So far it's 59 hours for me and I highly doubt sitting around waiting for an event to cycle is more effective than that because I do events while doing hearts. Not only do you get the reward right away, you have the ability to craft too. Seems you have a narrow approach and aren't taking in the whole picture.

To the topic at hand:

~65-70 Fireheart Rise Soloable Dynamic Events

Posted Image\\

The top left event is a Charr Vet with 3 adds spread out.  I recommend you clear some of the adds so they don't occur while fighting the Vet.  If you have a pet (Necro, Ranger, Ele, etc.) hes even easier and may be manageable at earlier levels.  He has a health burn attack that is hurty so melee should at least be 65.

The bottom left is simply Harpies that have taken over the village.  Clear them out (lower their morale).

The event on the right is either a defend or retake, if the defend failed (usually no one was there).

Very soloable.  Typically little wait time, some will even overlap in reset times.

Shrimps, you inspired me to take your guide and combine it with mine. Hope you don't mind, heres the combined work:

For those who got their mains up and want to roll alts to 80 in a hurry. Some of this guide is researched information some I wrote personally, thought I might share it so you can all enjoy epic fast leveling.

Levels 0-?
Fastest way I have found is to do the Personal story line untill your new toon can no longer compete in it. depending on class should get you to level 5-7 in roughly 30 minutes or less. If you do this skip ahead to the appropriate level on the guide.

Key notes: *** means fail event, if you let some events fail, you get 50% xp. and a new event spawns that rewards 100% xp. So if you see a "***" means let that event fail for an additional % of xp from a new event spawn.

Levels 1-5

Dynamic Event: (Area: Queensdale) Chain Events:
Kill the river drake broodmother (3)Stop the bandit thief from stealing the pumphouse blueprints (3)
Clear the orchard of spiders for Farmer Eda (4)Kill the huge spider in Eda's Orchard (4)

Levels 5-10
Dynamic Event: (Area: Queensdale) Chain Events:Stop skritt thieves from stealing logging tools (7)Failure: Retrieve stolen logging tools from the skritt hideout (7)Success of either of above: Help Slim Mikhart destroy the skritt cave support (7)

Levels 10-15
Dynamic Event: (Area: Queensdale) Chain Events:Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery's ale (11)Failure: Return stolen kegs of ale to Abbot MathiasSuccess of either above two: Protect the brew shipment (14)

Levels 15-20
Dynamic Event: (Area: Queensdale) Chain Events:
Rescue the traveling child's mother from bandits (15)Accompany the Lionguard patrol (16)Clear the bandit ro* from the road to Lion's Arch (16) participate, but let the event fail ***Escort the caravan to Kessex Haven (16)Recover the stolen shipment from the bandits (16)

ok 20 and beyond starts picking up the pace as far as xp/hr goes also, because the guide is going to put you in a higher level range of mobs, by 5-6 levels higher then you. So there are a few things to discuss here at this avenue in the guide. There are going to be alot of event fails. See notes above. This will help top out on xp/hr vs completing a single event for 1 events worth of xp/karma/gold. Secondly, at 20 and up on the gear situation if you haven't noticed yet, you should be getting alot of drops from these events, equip upgrades as you get them. Use the best gear for "overall killing power" don't worry about defense, just the ability to do damage and AOE skills if you have a class with them. The idea here is to "tag" mobs, and do enough damage during the event to get "Gold" status and max XP. Mobs at events will at this point come in larger numbers hit harder, and start with conditions, knockdowns and other things you will need gear to survive. That being said.

Levels 20-30
Dynamic Event: (Area:Gendarran Fields) Chain Events:

Participate damage mobs to 50% event time, let this event fail:Cull the undead horde gathering outside of First Haven (26) Then you will get: Recapture First Haven from the Risen (26) Then: Rebuild First Haven's defenses to guard against the undead (26)

During the downtime in the first set of events : Survive the trials of the battle pit (26) is repeatable, if my memory serves correct if you complete it you, can enter again with the npc.

At 30+ keep in mind at this point you are skipping ahead, tag mobs and let the npcs do the killing, if you feel your too squishy, continue on the last events until 35, then you can jump to:

Dynamic Event: (Area:Harathi Hinterlands) Chain Events: (Credit on this to Shrimps on GuildWars GuRu.com for this next section)

Seraph Assault on Centaur Camps Generally speaking camp out at the NE most camp, Assuming Seraph has control, events will spawn with the Camp under attack, Defend the North camp always.(42) Stop the centaurs from retaking their camps After the attack event is completed. Capture the camps before more centaurs arrive Directly after or mid way with these events, you should see:Defeat Ulgoth the Modniir and his minions (43)
Starts, this event in its own is a chain with 5 seperate parts. I usually do up to the Warbeasts, then run back and log out to preserve my XP boosts, you could do that, or finish the boss. (note: this can take you all the way to level 50)

Level 50-60 (Honestly this part is a little more then hard if you don't get to at least 52 before heading to this location due to missing attacks on the mobs that hit hard, knockdown, and 1 shot in grps so that being said)

Dynamic Event: (Area:Bloodtide Coast) Chain Events: (Credit on this to Shrimps on GuildWars GuRu.com for this next section)

Let this event fail at 50% :(54) Protect the Lapatl Chieftain from the undead *** Then retake the camp for an additional DE gold worth of XP.  Directly following retaking the camp: (55) Defend Pochtecatl as he travels to gather griffon eggs You can rinse and repeat this event with about a 4 min downtime all the way to level 56-57

Then at level 55-57

Dynamic Event: (Area:Sparkfly Fen) Chain Events:Defend Chokevine Gorge before Risen overrun it (64) When this isn't up and going: Defend the supply of energy from krait (65) This event chain is just the 2 here, and you can flip flop between the 2 with about a 4 min downtime between. This can take you up to 65 I leveled a Mesmer to 70 here. Very fast spot.

Levels 70-80:
(Credit on this to Shrimps on GuildWars GuRu.com for this next section)

Dynamic Event: (Area:Straits Of Devastation) Chain Events: (74) Defend the Lone Post from the Risen hordes(74) Escort the Pact squad to the conservatory  (74) Kill the Veteran Risen Wizard defending the conservatory  These can take you all the way to 80.

Alternative to 75-80 and my personal favorite, these events all spawn close to each other and offer multiple chains for max XP/Karma (I use boosters for this to grind karma/gold with MF gear as well:

Dynamic Event: (Area:Cursed Shore) Chain Events:[Group] Kill the Risen broodmother (80)Defend Priory Explorer Plinx as he repairs his hazmat suit (80) Multi Chain Event. Then Directly spawning (for Abom, Depending on whats going on in the map, I usually do about 60dmg to the Abom, and get to another DE spawn and not see it to finish, it takes a long time to actually down the mob:[Group] Defeat the Risen abomination wandering outside the walls of Caer Shadowfain (80)

Defeat the ancient Risen warriors in Balthazar’s arena (80) Multi Chain Event.

I fill in the gaps of DE spawn with hanging at this camp or close to it:

Rid the Pact camp of tar elementals (80)

Happy grinding to 80 and I hope you find this guide as useful as I do.

The Jelako event chain is almost never done any more, even Harathi is hit or miss.  You need to be current or your guide, even when combined, is fail.

Even the Sparkfly krait event is mainly briefly during prime time or during Teq's appearance window.  This is why I posted the soloable events in Fireheart Rise, above.  Also doing the krait event when 55-57 can be suicidal since the mobs are still red IIRC.  Now given you will probably be alone or with 1-2 other peeps total given the current state of the game, good luck.
