Well, yesterday I was playing with a pre-searing character, and I must say that I simply love the catacombs...
If I'm not mistaken the next part of GWB will be set in Ascalon, so would you like to visit the catacombs again?
I suppose it is not beyond the forces of the live team to adapt the old map

Yeah, would be pretty freaking awesome. Especially if we could go through it and back out the back exit to the Baradin estate/foble's. (A personal dream of mine)

That actually would be very cool. Catacombs is the best dungeon in all of GW1.

I don't have a Pre-Searing character to take through the Catacombs and check, but I'm pretty sure 90% of the Catacombs are self-contained and would require no map edits at all (beyond replacing mobs) to be carried over into post-Searing, however it is implied that the catacombs were flooded as one of the entrances in post-Searing is filled with water.

We might see new catacombs?  I'm hoping that there are at least areas in the Asura territory where you can explore the tunnels where (y)our ancestors used to dwell.

In Ghosts of Ascalon, the opening scene is in a catacomb, although it was under Divinity's Reach. So, maybe your dream will come true although it's in a different place.

They would just need to add a zone portal wherever in ascalon they need it. Heck, they dont even have to, as you could just get ported view accepting from an NPC. Close off some of the exits and youve got a very useable catacombs :)

This has me all excited O.O

It would. The exist towards the west shows Asford Abbey.

But changes would be minimal and would be no harder than making the Hall of Judgment or the Lion's Arch Keep. However, such resources might be sent to making Ebonhawke.

I think Ebonhawke might be beyond the GWLive crew simply because it would necessitate a completely new explorable area. However updating the catacombs seems like an excellent idea because it would require extremely minimal changes to update for post searing, and would provide a lot of nostalgic content for prophecies players. :)

Excellent idea! :D

And that takes up more than 10% of the area?

I'm misunderstanding something here. What does GWB stand for? Guild Wars ____?

Guild Wars Beyond. Like the forum title. ;)

It's the events that are happening to bridge the time between GW1 and GW2.

Oh whoops, I came here from the home page since, at the time, it was new.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Even if it is flooded, we will have underwater exploration with no breath limit.

We will in GW2. This forum is about GW:B, which is taking place in GW1, where we have no such abilities. I don't think the small Live team is going to be reprogramming GW1 to give us GW2 features.

As far as I am aware you are mistaken. The next part of GW:B is to find Thackeray (and he is located somewhere north of Kryta). After the Thackeray and Gwen plot has been resolved GW:B will move on to Cantha. The plot of Evennia has been put on hold, so unless Gwen and Thackeray return to Ascalon some time soon I wouldn't expect GW:B to go there.

I have always thought the catacombs was an underused asset and had great potential to be reused in post searing. Some of the art inside doesn't represent well how Ascalon is today but it wouldn't be as hard as creating a whole new area. I found the catacombs far more detailed and unique than the generic dungeon (and often re-used) designs from EotN.

I checked the wiki and you are right, but Evennia waiting to talk to king Adelbern lets me hope that Ascalon will have a little part to play.
And I'm totally with you about the dungeon design...

Yep. I would love to go into the catacombs again. Just use the old map, and track down missing ascalonians. Or anything. :)

Catacombs was pretty big in pre-searing, and awesome.

PS. Note on the ebonhawke, they'll probably make it, but show the beginning of making it (so a bit of stone here, stone there), so doesn't take much resources and shows the foundations of Ebonhawke just after its started.
