We all know that Cadeyrn founded the Nightmare Court because the firstborn were being favored by the Pale Tree and all sylvari blindly followed Ventari's Tablet. Well as founder of the Nightmare Court why exactly isn't he in charge? Don't say that the Nightmare Court doesn't favor individuals over the rest of the Court's populace because Faolain became Grand Duchess. How exactly did she become Grand Duchess? I thought that the Court's founder hated the fact that the firstborn were favored but he allows a firstborn to just join the Court and become the leader while he is left as a lame henchman and the weakest boss in Twilight Arbor. Why isn't he like the Arch Duke? Is there anything that says how Faolain became Grand Duchess or am I just missing something?

Given Cadeyrne's dialogue in Twilight Arbor and Faolain's profession - I think we're seeing a case of the darker side of mesmerism. Faolain basically said "Mine now" and Cadeyrne the spoiled brat simply didn't have the willpower to resist.

Faolin is a firstborn, Cadeyrn is a second born. Probably something to do with it.

Faolain is up on Cadeyrne by seven years of genuine experience, though. Being a mesmer probably improves your resistance against being mesmerised, but doesn't make it impossible.

Originally in interviews we were told that Faolain became the Grand Duchess because of the other members of the NIghtmare Court - they "elevated" her to be their leader. Effectively, Cadeyrn founded it, brought Faolain into nightmare completely (probably a major ego booster there) and then everyone goes favoring her as leader. We were also told that he was annoyed by this.

His sudden change in personality in game is quite odd, truth be told, given what we were told previously. I'd have to agree with drax that Faolain did something to Cadeyrn to make him more devoted. It felt very very off character, and the entire dungeon is about how Faolain's a manipulator and enchantress who makes everyone do whatever she wants them to do. So the "darker side of mesmerism" is more than likely the answer to this. And Cadeyrn being a mesmer doesn't really matter much - hell, his abilities as a mesmer may be from Faolain since the blog post implies he's a warrior since he's only shown fighting with weapons and never magic during that.

Just because one person has been a profession for longer than another doesn't automatically mean they'll be better/stronger at it. Faolain is obviously a much more powerful Mesmer, regardless of the fact she's younger.

Um... Faolain is older than Cadeyrne. That's what the whole firstborn/secondborn thing is really about.

Konig's point about Cadeyrne's supposed mesmerism is an interesting one - he confuses and transforms, but apart from that he does seem to fight more as a warrior. It could be that in reality Faolain is doing the mesmer stuff from the sidelines, or he has some other external magical source for those effects (kinda like how Trahearne can shoot lightning and Whirling Wrath with Caladbog despite being a necromancer himself).
