Agares Hastur V
Basics
Birth: 1307 AE
Death: N/A
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Nationality: Ascalonian, Krytan, and Kurzick
Profession: Ranger
Occupation: Bounty Hunter/Mercenary
Physical Description
Average height for a human with shoulder length orangish-brown hair. He is primarily of Ascalonian descent so he has white skin (though he does have Krytan and Canthan in him so he won't be as white as most Ascalonian Krytans). Well fit due to being trained as a ranger since childhood, with a body fitting acrobatics.
He prefers having two layers of clothing - one being tight fitting (usually leather armor) and another being looser (often a long coat). He often sports a reinforced longbow and two to four daggers, on rare occasions even more. He has two quivers - one on his back holding standard iron-tipped arrows, and the second on the right side of his waist with extra padding holding
balthazate-tipped arrows for when minor explosions are needed.
He has a pet river drake (Zhar) and moss spider (Alila), though he seldom brings them on expeditions (especially those he doesn't plan out), preferring for his pets to be used as a scare tactic. His pets were both named after ancestors of his.
Personality
Agares is extremely optimistic and kind - often to a fault. Still a bit childish and quick-acting due to his inexperience. Though despite this he is not openly trusting and views everyone by their initial appearance more than anything else, causing him to have skewed views of certain individuals.
He has a belief that everything will work out in the end, and he hates when bystanders get in conflicts or when people are harassed and will often go out of his way to keep bystanders out of harms way on his missions. Along with this, he holds a dislike to those who hold grudges for long times, especially over reasons he’d consider petty or over generations.
He is a keen observer and a quick thinker, allowing him to quickly get out of rough situations. However he hardly ever thinks more than the current step and thus is often outsmarted or injured. On rare occasions he will have a long-term plan, but such plans will often change or get ignored as time goes on.
He also refrains from talking about his past when he doesn't have to, perhaps due to Kierra's secretive nature rubbing off on him. He dislikes bragging though sees enjoyment in hearing of others' accomplishments - which makes him enjoy norn, but be viewed down upon by them.
Background Details
Allegiances:
His allies shift as his needs change. He works with or for the people whom he believes will help him, and keep a watchful eye on the rest.
Faith:
Though he doesn't pray much, he reveres the Six Gods, though holds Balthazar and Kormir as his patron gods.
Family:
The Hastur family is a long line of very traditional-based Ascalonians. It's said among the family that before the Searing they could prove their family was among the first settlers of Ascalon, as well as having many generations within the Ascalonian army. A tradition within the family is to name the eldest son Agares, and if no sons born for the eldest daughter to carry that tradition while keeping the Hastur family name. This tradition is what made it so easy to trace back heritage, though it seems to be slowly waning.
He comes from two other strong families as well: The Zhars, a fallen noble house of Krytans, and the Meyers, a lesser House of the Kurzicks.
The Zhar's origins trace back to the founding of Kryta, and from Ascalon before then. The owners of a wide-spread mining business, the Zhars had traveled to Kryta in 492 AE, led by nobleman Riley Zhar, the head of the family at the time. However, due to family crisis, Riley was caught off-guard and most of the family fortune stolen, forcing the family to restart. Though the family would regain its money and noble status, it never returned to its former heights as they lost all of their Ascalonian business and the mines on the steppes of the Blazeridge and Shiverpeak Mountains. The regained money was eventually taken by the royal family during the second Guild Wars, to help finance the army.
House Meyer was one of the smallest recognized houses of the Kurzicks that was primarily situated to the west of House zu Heltzer, and was among the first struck by the Afflicted plague. Their numbers decimated, they decided to travel north to Tyria in refuge, having heard of House Ulrikar's attempt to settle there. They were allowed to settle, but under supervision due to the hostility shown by past Kurzicks.
Agares’ father, Agares Hastur IV, died when he was seven and his mother, Celandine, works as an assistant healer in Rurikton. He has a brother, Raeburn Hastur, three years younger than him who has aspired to join the Ebon Vanguard and, last Agares heard (back in 1322 AE) he was still training to join.
Duties:
He persists in claiming that he holds no duties, only acting as he wishes. Despite this though, he has a constant reminder of his family's constant talk of fighting the charr that own Ascalon. The only true duty he holds, however, lies in his own desire to see conflict minimized by any means - which is tied to why he joined the Cartel.
Life History
1307-1322 AE
Born in 1307 AE, Agares lived among the common people of Rurikton in Divinity's Reach, he comes from a heavily traditioned family of Ascalonian long ranged rangers that had mixed into a family of fallen Krytan nobles and of pre-refugee Kurzicks. Breaking tradition to a degree, Agares has taken up the sword alongside the bow. Unlike his family, he considers himself Tyrian instead of Ascalonian – not tying himself to a single ethnicity as his ancestry comes from all across Tyria and Elona; similarly, unlike his family he has no ties to the now-ended War of Ascalon Independence with the charr. Along with this, he has two pets - a spider and lizard.
From a family of now three, his father died in Ascalon when he was seven. His younger brother, who was four at the time of their father’s death, had always aspired to fight in the Ebon Vanguard, and currently has mixed feelings over the peace treaty with the charr, which creates a conflict between the two brothers as Agares dislikes senseless wars.
Since he was a child, Agares’s only aspirations of his own were simply doing what he felt was right and protecting his family and friends. Due to his personality and his odd jobs, his childhood friend Renita Cartwright (a friend's intended character) often watches over him and gets him out of troubles that couldn’t be solved by force – though he has more than often returned the favors.
He often wanted to join the Seraph to defend his friends and family, however this changed when Renita’s family was killed in a centaur raid – at that time, Agares realized that fighting the centaurs would just increase their hatred of humans and in turn harm more people. After his father’s death, Agares worked as a hired arm of sorts in order to support his mother and brother. Though this often meant running messages or helping other kids out with bullies, when he was twelve he was hired to kill a rival gang leader of his client – during this job he showed his skill as a marksman by taking out half a dozen of the gang (including the leader) before being spotted and forced to flee. Since then, he focused on becoming a mercenary and, when work was dry, a bounty hunter – however, he refused any job that had a high risk of retaliation (or did things to prevent retaliations against innocents).
1322-1324 AE
In 1322, when he was 15, he met Kierra outside a bar in Divinity's Reach, and joined the Shining Mantle organization in hopes of helping ending some of the - in his view - senseless wars. Instead he got dragged around by his group leader,
Konig Deathrazor, into the northern Crystal Desert and into the Far Shiverpeaks, leaving him with multiple close calls on his death as they fought through Elder Dragon territory. After half a year of this Konig was recalled back to the Ash Legion and Agares placed into a special ops group alongside Kierra (who joined the SM at the same time) by the organization's military-division leader.
In early 1323, during a simple scouting and assessment mission, Agares' unit of three was ambushed, resulting in Agares losing an arm. He was directed to a contact of the Shining Mantle in Rata Sum but was met with a ransacked lab, its owner missing. He met Xangg inside this lab, as he was among those ransacking it on his rare returns to Rata Sum, who directed him to Renni - a former target of the asuran mesmer. Renni was a former golemancer who was developing a more portable power suit module intended to be little bigger than an asura itself while inhancing the power expoentially. She quickly took on the task, and much-needed payment, of developing a prosthetic arm for Agares, and an reinforced longbow to withstand the arm's strength. Despite nearly two years passing, he has yet to get accustomed to his new arm causing him to exert more power in his right hand/arm than intended.
After various more assignments over the following year, Agares got into a heated argument with his superior over the proper course of actions that have been taken and quickly quit the group. Shortly after, he found the dying spy and his message containing Cartel information and was attacked by Xanxus and, due to Kierra having known him, managed to convince Xanxus to recruit Agares into the Ashenfold Cartel. He was officially recruited during the latter events of the Night of the Fallen Axe, when the leaders of the Cartel were killed and replaced.
