Topic,

My first was an Elementalist since i usually play the ranged nuker class in rpgs and i played one on gw1.

So after some time (he is only 21)i realize the real damage does not come from spells rather than melee combat. Personally it is a bit of a letdown for me because if i go melee i prefer either some big weapons or some kind of stealth. So i went to make a ton of other classes and was also making a warrior which i play with a longbow.
the nr3 aoe deals nice damage and the single target damage is ok (lv 36)
However it keeps me wondering, should the ele not be way better for area denial due aoe spamming from or to walls than a warrior whit a longbow?
in WvW the most eles i see are using Meteor Shower, however when you use MS on Targets which are not moving you get like 3 maybe 4 hits during the entire duration- which means you are doing allot of damage but not really critical damage which will hurt people in way where they have to move out of your range.

i am sure i am just doing it wrong, or if not is it just as effective with a longbow warrior to create some sort of area denial?

this is really just for zerging, i have an lv 80 mesmer and i am currently leveling a thief which i enjoy both. i just dont see them exceel at this very area

so thanks in advance

Timewarp makes the meteors from meteor shower fall down twice as fast

Timewarp + fiery greatsword wrecks zergs if two people are using it inside the bubble.

Elementalists are very good for zerging, you have good mobility, a wide variety of combo fields, and wide area AoE spells for garrison walls.
While it's true you won't deal the burst damage other classes can, you have the benefit of excellent support and harassment.

and not a single warrior love was given.

in all seriousness though warriors have a different role in wvw.
they do not excel at area denial in wvw however they are great in the skirmishing catagory and are surpringly good support in zerg fights on a support tanky build with long bow and mh+horn get the trait that heals you and allies on shouts and use banners and shoutsto buff and heal your zerg

If you really want it, you'll make any class work at anything.

Choose what you have more fun with. I'm playing S/D/Staff in WvW and it works well, can't share any Warrior WvW experience, though.

I thought condition stacking + epidemic, mark and plague form are really good in WvW, are they not?

If I was a necromancer I would just Spectral Grasp people into the zerg every 24 secs xD
Then corrupt and epidemic. But that's kind of offtopic.

Ele is arguably the best WvW class in the game. You're mobile, have tons of group support through fields, do great AoE damage for zerg fights and tower/keep battles, plus you can be a very good skirmisher just by swapping from staff to S/D or D/D without having to respec.

I play a pure glass bomb ele with staff in big fights/sieges and swap out to S/D for solo roaming/small group skirmishing. It's very effective and a lot of fun.

I would say the other Tier 1 classes are Guardian and Mesmer for their amazing group support abilities. Engineer is very good, but doesn't stand out quite as much as the above three. All of the other classes are viable, but the T1 classes are the only ones I would actively request for my WvW group. I've never heard anyone say "I wish we had a few more thieves/warriors/rangers/necros."

Necros are already very good in WvW, if you combine with mesmers you create likely the most frighteningly effective burst in the game.

Probably because there are already more thieves/warriors/rangers and necros than you can poke a stick at in WvW.
All classes have a use in WvW but not all classes are good at all roles in WvW.

Warriors are definitely a useful class but they'll never be as good defending walls or clearing walls as an ele/engi/necro/thief and the amount of rifle warriors and 100 blade glass cannon builds you see makes the class look bad.

The best part about eles in WvW is simply meteor shower because it can hit siege that other classes cannot.

I have so much fun with Ele and WvW, Dagger dagger for running around in a group, nothing beats watching people clump together, riding the lightining into the group, knocking them all back, casting Earth#5 and lightning flashing into them all, then knocking them down again and preceeding to either run away because you've given your side a serious edge over them now, or jumping into fire for some more damage.

Then when you stumble to the gates of whatever castle you are face rolling against you switch to staff and can provide some of the best aoe support as well as great damage on seige that is in hard to hit locations.

Ele is by far one of the best classes, if not the best, for WvW.  Bar a mesmer and it's portal bombs.
