No thx,

What you are asking here is to have your favourite class to be able to use a weapon that doesnt fit it, forcing it, just because greatswords are great and they look badass.

Once again, it looks forced.

Oh and the skill are pretty unbalanced imo.

I would be in for more weaponry yes, but more specifically 1 hand ones, so there could be combinations with the shield in off hand. Probably looks forced though, yes. But as much as I like my Engi I feel like bashing stuff with something else than a wrench sometimes. :P

Er... I don't see a greatsword fitting into an engineer theme. If what you want is more melee options for engis then I fully agree but hammer suits better. The other thing I don't like about those suggestions is that all of those abilities are really just damage and encourages a button mash burst playstyle which is too prevalent in sPvP as it is. I'd rather having varied abilites which are situational but when used right can make a difference instead of elixir U --> button mash

I can see a one handed hammer, or even duall wielding them  be very fitting for an engineer

Definitive no 2Handed Weapon.

my vote goes to Dagger or 1h-Mace. Both would match the Engineer-Character exceptionally well.
In RL im an engineer and I never go anywhere without my knife :)

To be honest I could not see mace fitting either. I think pistol, rifle, shield actually matches pretty well. I could see maybe dagger if you have it skills match a utility knife kinda theme. However, I would rather just have our kits balanced rather than add another weapon. I think the tool kit would satisfy melee craves if it was just balanced a bit.

I think daggers would be good. You know, because...engineers aren't like...really..."Fighter" types, and having an easily accessible weapon would be nice. Also, we need a NORMAL weapon that's effective at long range. Rifle is terrible at distance.

Somewhat unrelated, but honestly, I thought Engineer should have been a heavy armor class. Why wear medium armor? We're not rangers or thieves, agility shouldn't matter if you're an ENGINEER. You don't need mobility if you're an ENGINEER. Why forsake the extra armor for mobility that you're not going to use?

Mace, or maybe Hammer (borderline), but dagger and especially (Great)Swords does not fit the class imo.

I would love to see GS on ng, but I think before I see a new weapon added, I would like to see a " turrets follow you" major trait :) maybe give them tank treads.

Engineer class is last 50 years or so in Tyria...what do you think all those fighters were before they learned to be engineers?  They used swords and axes and daggers and hammers... then engineering came along and they were like "Nope, I'm only using Pistols, Shields and Rifles from now on..." it doesn't make sense.  In the military, if it ain't broke don't fix it.  Soldiers still carry knives on them, even though they have very advanced guns.... why? because knives have been around since Cain and Abel and they STILL WORK.

I'll concede, maybe GS isn't the best choice of an "ancient" weapon to give the Engi, but I'd love to have the option

I don't think it fits. We just want GS because it looks badass and the Legendaries are awesome. Tough luck for us.

It would make more sense to give engineers a balanced, semi-defensive weapon to maintain distance, such as halberd.

Even then, it doesn't make much sense to give them a melee weapon, and greatsword at that!

Stupid Stupid Stupid.

I can't possibly think of a more unfitting weapon-profession combination.
Greatsword engineer? C'mon, man.
What next? Focus on a warrur so you can ding your enemies with a mighty cowbell?

GS is a great weapon but it doesn't really fit the class so well. However, I too dislike the lack of melee possibilities for engi. So how about a 30 SP Elite Weapon Kit skill, which would give us a big-ass two-handed wrench with some fancy skills? xD

Come to think of it, I'd say any melee weapon with a reasonable skill set would fit engi, however, they'd need to have very specific skins to fit the class theme - therefore it would be much more suitable to have them as Kit skills rather than stand-alone weapons. The most harmless way to put this into the game (imo) would be making these special weapons part of the Supply Crate drop.

I can't agree to an engineer with a greatsword, it does seem a little forced and unfitting, and the skills suggested look a bit overpowered. However, I'm all for adding more weaponry to the arsenal.

Remember the engineer is about technology, so of the current weapons, the only ones I could see the engineer wielding are the torch, and maybe the dagger as a utility knife.

I think for the torch it would just be like any of the other three classes, skill 4 applies some type of burning or maybe aoe blind + burning like the mesmer skill and skill 5 could be another source of burning, maybe "Elixir-Infused Napalm" igniting napalm with your torch, and it could work like the guardian cleansing flame except instead of curing conditions, grants some boom, or grants some random boon. This skills would also have some nice synergy with flamethrower enthusiast.

The dagger I'm not so sure, but like mentioned above, it could follow a utility-knife theme. Maybe offhand-only.

to quote Koplev in route 3 of SE explorable, NO NO NO.

other than skins, I really don't understand why you would ever want to use a greatsword on this profession.  I could understand an argument for "tanks" (turrets with movement), but really you have 4 kits plus rifle or pistol/pistol or pistol/shield.  I've never wanted any different weapons on my engineer, and that's through the end of the personal story.  The whole idea feels forced beyond belief.

the whole profession is based on technology.  technology increases range because melee is dangerous.  so why go backwards on technology on a profession based around it?

As weak as the toolkit feels overall, id use it if they'd just change the wrench model to a 2h pipewrench. im jealous of the engi from torchlight 2.

As long as us guardians get to use flamethrower, since we do lots of burning as it is.

Oh more greatswords wondering around the game... No thx.  Doesn't fit the class in the slightest. I'd rather see something of a new set of kits rather than weapons.

Epic!  I want a mighty cowbell!  Or maybe a Wile E. Coyote style mallet.  After all, "if it doesn't work, use a bigger hammer."

Just give us a new tool kit , Rivot Gun!! Nail gun! haha

1hnd mace would be cool , make it work like ranger's axe in just the sense it would be a ranged wpn or least have a option of being able to throw it.

Engi are a great mid ranged class , would be nice to have more of an option or a kit that could put us at 1200+ range , Like a nail gun! lol , like #5 ability you unload a spree of nails in the air or even at your target.. Grease gun! Where you could shoot the group with a big glob of grease and it will snare / make ppl fall down , another ability could be you cover the target in grease and now burning does like 50% more dmg or something like that. So we can play on our own combo fields.

But Gs would be kinda fun thing to see but would feel wierd.

I was a process engineer, and I have to say I was soooo used to seeing hammer on the wall with all other tools in every lab, or beside every piece of machinery, just so if anything doesn't work, bash it with the hammer until it does!

So yeah, hammer/mace is good and fitting. GS? nah.
