"Iron" is pretty dark and almost a poor man's black.
Icing is nearly white and works pretty well.
I like gold for trim (current ele outfit is abyss with gold trim). Silver doesn't really look all that silver to me, it's more of a blah gray. Tarnished silver and mithril are also pretty nice for trim colors.
On my ranger I use a lot of browns and earthy looking tones plus cashmere, which is very light approaching white on many medium pieces. It makes for a good blend that I don't really see anybody else using.

Yeah, I always preview before learning the expensive dyes- you might lose 15%ish, but at least you don't lose all of it if you don't like it.

The trick however is it's default dyed white sleeves. Winter Ice on leather looks like ice, a light bluish, a bit bright just like .. ice

It's a black, but it's light enough that you can still see armor details. It's also cheap.

I have White on one of my characters, and honestly I don't like it. It's way too washed out. Matte (one of the starter colors) looks much better as "white".

Black is dark; mysterious. Possibly evil. Oooh, evil! That person must be edgy and powerful! They're like... An assassin. Or a ninja. Or Robert Smith.
White is bright and innocent. It's purity and grace. It's also harder to make fun of than black, even if it is just as schticky. Oh, and it's also edgy and mysterious no thanks to Assassin's Creed. Stupid paradigm shifts...

The white kind of symbolizes my playing style, as I tend to be the survivor that revives everyone in the heat of battle.
Medic in the field!

Wish I had weapons to go with the armor, I use a staff and sword + pistol
Any suggestions?

I like natural colours. As I'm playing a ranger, who is wearing clothes from leather, brown and blackish colours look great.

The pants are Midnight Ice, the coat is Midnight Ice and Cocoa, the red I don't know the name of atm...

'Icing' and 'Blue Ice' are probably the closest to white that are not brighter than white, while 'Celestial' will show up as white on skins that make 'White' look gray. However, on armor where white actually looks white, celestial tends to bleach it out too much.
Midnight Ice is Abyss with a blue shader effect instead of a neutral/white one; Midnight Fire is the same but with an orange/brown one, which is why MI and MF look blue or brown on some armors and like Abyss on others. Blue Ice is sort of similar in that it can look white on some armor (especially during the day) but pale blue on others.
I used Blue Ice and Midnight Ice in the betas and liked them, but when the game went live, I saved up and got Black, White, Celestial and Abyss, so that I could make my armors look black or white regardless of armor type and light. All of that said, though, I could see Midnight Ice, some shade of blue, and gold (or silver) looking very sharp in combination.
Silver, Mithril, etc, all look best on metal and ornamentation, IMO, hence the names. Mithril is weird because it's beigey, but it's somewhere between 'white gold' and 'silver' and depending on the lighting can pass as one or the other. All of the metal-named ones look best, IMO, on 'metal' armor fields, as they were designed to.
