Tonight, Isaiah Cartwright, Game Designer for ArenaNet, posts about legendary weapons.

Quote

If you’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 in the month or so since launch, you’ve likely heard players talking about Legendary Weapons. What is a Legendary Weapon—and more importantly, how can you get one?

Without spoiling the process too much, he continues the article by outlining the basic necessities for crafting legendary weapons and hints that more information can be found on forums [spoilers]. You can read the full article here.

Alongside the article is a video, posted below, that shows the animation effects for the following legendary weapons:

Btw, in case you wanna know who is responsible for the absurd farming: Isaiah ;)

Sadly they are still not worth my time, because while some look good, they are of no use to me in PvE :/

To me a legendary is something I'll get one day. I log on, I explore an area, I get a little money along the way. I don't expect to get one tomorrow. Or even within a year. But one day, I'll have it!

This, the same thing I tell myself and my guildies everytime :D. However I've tried my luck throwing in 4 rare lvl 80 GS bought off TP into mystic forge and got another lvl 80 rare GS :|. Well it was worth a try :P. I spent like 2 gold on those purchases lol. Btw I just reached lvl 80 and have around 52K karma and 7+ gold, is it too little to have at my level? :/

haha just what I was thinking... been waiting to see the shield in game and it just looks cool. Kinda like the irony of a charr having the flame seeker prophecy too :D

But yeah still prob go for the other prestigious stuff first... legendaries are too much for me to grasp atm.

Question, feedback or issue? Pm me!

The Juggernaught is just not what I thought it would be...still getting it, but when Eric and Collin talked about liquid metal dripping from it, changing your armor ("kinda") - I was somehow thinking of something more epic than the quicksilver-shovel that loses half its load every swing.

Hmm.

I really don;t like the shield, too intricate. I prefer sleeker designs.

Twilight, however, looks stunning!

Was really hoping for something awesome for the Juggernaut, and while the quicksilver effects are nice, the actual weapon design is very weak.  I don't get why the greatswords look so beastly yet the hammers are so tame in comparison.

There's nothing wrong with a fun weapon. If I used a shortbow, I'd make one.

"Luckily" for me, I find all the legendary models and skins gaudy and ridiculous, like nearly all of the high rarity (ie super grind) weapons and armor.

Grind is optional in this game, but grind is also the only PvE endgame content, so I guess its all sPvP and WvW for me.

I might get one after the fifth expansion maybe, because the game right now can't possibly keep me interested long enough to get more than a tiny fraction of the needed components.

Right? It's actually flabberghasting how any other weapon that isn't a Greatsword looks borderline bad. I feel especially bad for Necromancers - they either go for a Rainbow Staff that just screws up their whole vibe or a scepter that looks no better fitting to their character either. Here's to hope the Expansion legendaries are going to be better.

Slightly disappointing to be honest - "Hey, our game is all about looks - but most of the stuff we offer, aren't anywhere near top notch". I am curious to see the actual concept art pieces of those weapons, because so far - the art has been marvellous, which makes it all the more astounding that the 3D in-game models would turn out so lacklustre.

I've got no explanation for it, personally.

Same with Armor - there are maybe 2 armors that are "okay" one (Arah) that looks absolutely great - and then there's a couple of armor styles that just look off. It's always subjective of course and I could be the odd one out that just doesn't feel their art direction when it comes to that - but for me at least, the designs are not as great as I hoped, seeing the rest of the game actually blows my mind in terms of details and intricate design.

This is one of the things I really love about GW2. What you do and accomplish today will most likely be worth just as much in 3 years.

I also re-looked up the requirements to obtain a Legendary after reading the article, due to them making it sound like it's actually achievable as you continue to play the game.  However, looking at all the stacks of materials and the gold and the skill points required, it's really not a readily achievable task without grinding out the materials and/or gold to buy the materials.  I know that people have rushed to get these in the past month, but for the casual GW2 player, it's not going to be an available thing.  I know that these weapons were designed for the hardcore player in mind and as the "ultimate achievement", but there's no need for them to write a blogpost stating that...

"Legendary Weapons are the end result of an epic adventure in Guild Wars 2. You’ll travel all over, collecting items and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon."
"Once you collect all of the necessary gifts, materials, and karma, you’re ready to craft your Legendary Weapon."

I'm not a believer in GW2 as a grind.  I've followed their methodologies closely and agreed with them for 5+ years now.  They don't promote the grind, but if you look at this list, how can you not think "wow that's a grind" ?

I agree with you and I do believe its a grind, but it I think its fair because it purely cosmetic, you don't need it, but if you want looks, you gotta earn it. The requirement is ridiculous (again i do believe its fair, it called legendary for a reason), I do play quite a bit, but i just don't see how I'm ever gonna come close to getting one haha, I barely make 1 gold per day, and I do grind DE down at orr for karma, so far with about 50k karma, combine with other mats. Maybe in a few years ill be able to make one, if I'm still playing. Who knows haha, maybe with new expansions, there will be newer and cooler legendaries haha.

This is just baaaad...   The game has months of real content to be spotlighing and a year of replayability once they fix the Lopsided Ladderless mess that is PvP.   And what do they spend their time on?? They give us this ridiculous Dragon-Chase riddled with Random Number Generated speed bumps for the next 100 miles?
FFFFFFFFFfffffffffffffffffffffffff......NO!

...infact maybe they should just give the crap needed to make these AS THE REWARDS for PvP just so we always have lots of OCD nubs to play against...  Sounds like a real win/win to me.

Anyone else NOT surprised that they didn't show either of the bows.  Seriously, why did they have to go pull pictures drawn by their kids off the fridge for the design of the bows.  They could of made at least ONE of them look legendary.

My main being a necromancer using a dagger/warhorn ~ staff setup most of the time, the current legendaries are not to my tastes anyway, so I'm not too broken up over never ever owning a legendary. A gaudy staff and a welding tool, no thanks.

Uhhh... at the very least I wish they'd done an "either, or" thing with dungeon tokens and WvW Badges. Grind everything isn't anti-grind, it's uber-grind, for crying out loud. What happened to "Play your way"? Just sounded catchy for pre-launch marketing?

They really shouldn't present this as something every player should be aiming for - it just isn't balanced that way.
