I really am digging his hybrid approach, it is as close to being a generalist as I can get and I am loving it.
A video that made things "click" for me and my Necromancer!

Is it me or is he hiding the true power of the necro?

I think what he says and is doing allows the Necro to be useful in more situations especially for those players that feel like they are being railroaded into some very narrow play styles.
It resonated with me anyways
Been playing hybrid style the last few days and I am finding myself very responsive in every situation.

Axe/focus

Definitely seems to be a PvE video.

That definitely is a hybrid spec since you have boon removal, condition removal, pure damage and condition damage. I personally find the staff too useful to take the focus, AoE condition removal is a major plus but the fact that I don't have boon removal makes me vs Guardians a hard fight. But even then, as long as I notice when they are using their stability boons and when aegis is up, I can easily beat them.

What bothers me most is that there are no good items for condition necromancer. You either waste points on power or precision if you want to max condition damage.
While spite and curses "sort of" synergizes, I also feel like they overlap way too much, particularily when it comes to single target damage, not to mention you disregard your staff.
Without the staff, I feel the necro looses the small amount of viability it has in WvW and PvP.
