Yeah, Qvi, Doctor Overlord and I are all in the same guild together (love the multiguild system)... so I was comfortable enough to message them strange messages.

In anycase, I've just notified CKABEH for you on his Dev page. Doesn't hurt to politely ask every now and again.

Just wish I was slightly more assertive like this irl...

There's an art guild? :surprised:

@Sera: Welcome aboard! I'll add you to the artist list. I was thinking everyone needs to hand in their artwork three days before their own date, just so that there's extra time for people to come up with something. So if you get the 16th, then your deadline is the 13th of December. Does that sound good? Or would it be better to have random dates for all artists without others knowing? Of course I could just send your date to you privately through PM.
Thanks! Already started on the sketch. It doesn't matter which specific date I'll get. Will most likely have something ready before december. Keeping it enclosed could work, if for nothing else than keeping the audience completely unaware on what to expect a specific day. All in the fun of surprise ^_^

I updated the first post in the thread with information about submitting your artwork. Please read it through! Also, I spammed sent everyone their dates through PM, let me know as soon as possible if they are ok with you or if you didn't get the PM for some reason.

In other news:
Ooooh, art guild? :o I wanna know about this too!

Wait are you guys referring to me for the guild...?

Umm... that would be that Mysteriously Obscure Acronym... MOA.

I'm not sure what is going on with recruiting right now though, since I haven't hung out with them in awhile...

The avatars of the gods burst through the center of Lion's Arch in a grand, one time only display.
...
Already been done?

Not really sure the direction on this one, but I'm expecting the human culture has maintained the holidays. Festive decoration, all the sorts. Perhaps some reappearances of the minions of either side--snowmen and grenches. Main festivities are beyond me.

Whatever it is, the effect will be grandiose, no doubt.

Snow in Lion's Arch! I doubt that'll happen though, since it feels like an almost tropical climate.... I can't imagine people actually living in those ships while it's freezing outside.

A huge snow maze/puzzle would be awesome though. :) Or asuran golems dressed up as snowmen that go around handing out gifts.

Maybe there will be some other magical influence that brings the snow to Lion's Arch now that the gods aren't having their usual battle.

@Amelia:  What CHAKEB said. Finding a source of inspiration can be a huge help. Also, sometimes you just need to force it. Having worked as an illustrator and graphic designer for a few years now, I can say that when super laziness hits, you just need to find the willpower to force yourself to sit down and start drawing even if you feel there's no way you can do it. Once you get started everything tends to fall into place and you find the energy to work again. :)

Nghh...

I made about 20 different basic thumbnails of ideas, and I still have no idea what I should do.

Should I go all out and completely outdo myself... hmm but then I might get stuck somewhere and lose interest.
I could do something more simple, but it might seem a little underwhelming... or look wierd if I put too much in something that should look "less"
Augh! I don't want to do a screenshot!

Final Exams are coming up in a week, so I'll be able to tackle this completely head on after the sixth.
Hopefully I can get myself sorted around then.

Hmmm, part of me wonders if it might be worthwhile to make an artist-based guild?    It would help if the darn guesting feature was working so people on different servers would feel more connected.   Amelia expressed interest as well, what do other people think?   (Sorry for the pseudo-thread hijack, I'll get back on topic).

Indeed, a serious question.   I found hard, unyielding, self-imposed deadlines (actual dates, not just 'one week') helped with me getting the Dynamic Events webcomic.  Until GW2 was released, then that schedule crumbled like dust :qq:  (On a plus note, I've finally started doing art again).

Deadlines served to prevent any unending cycle of revisions from starting and they also can force you to sit down and draw even if you don't feel you're in the mood.

That's often the biggest issue with me.   I don't think I'm in the mood to do art but when I finally sit down and start I find myself enjoying it.    The sense of urgency from a deadline can help get over that initial inertia.

Wintersday calendar website is up! It's in the old address http://www.shinanai....ersdaycalendar/ - I took down the old calendar, though I might end up making a separate page with all the old artwork so they won't just disappear. I might still end up tweaking the new website tomorrow sometime, but at least the layout is final.

When you send in your artwork, please let me know what name you'd like to show as the artist, and if you have a website you'd like me to add a link to. You can also write a short description of what happens in the drawing or any extra Wintersday greetings in general. The text will be added below the artwork.

Already gotten a few artworks sent to me, looking good. Can't wait to show them to everyone!

@EliteZeon: Simple is good too - sometimes a simpler drawing can convey a message much better than a more detailed one, and it can stand out better just by the fact that it's simpler. If you feel pressured about making an artwork, then simpler is definitely the better choice since it's more likely to actually get finished.

@Viatrix: Repeat after me! "I'm a great and magnificent artist and all my artworks are super awesome!" Now do that a 100 times. ;)

@Doctor Overlord: Artists guild sounds like a good idea, I'd definitely be up for it. Even if people don't actively do stuff together or are more involved with their main guilds, at least there's a chance of seeing who is online and talk about art-related stuff in general. Or just goof around, both are fun.

@Perynne - Were you planning on posting a thread with a link on the fan-generated content forum on the official site?

And if you'd like to try to start an artist guild, I might be up for lending a hand (he says thinking that he doesn't even have time to play GW2 and do art at the same time :qq:)   Let me know!

Started a week prior to deadline, granted I did pull in all-nighter just to go from sketch to finished version so i could send it in. So the best tip really is as it has already been mentioned; keep it simple, stick-figure simple if need to, if time is lacking. It will still convey what you wish to say through it even if kept basic as long as people can see what it is or what it may be out of all its possibilities it gives to the beholder. So to speak.

It's exciting to see what you've all done or will do, can't wait either :)

I'd love to join one! Granted, when the guesting system is implemented it will be much easier to do stuff in-game as well and not limit the guild to be just a chat window cross-server, though the latter could be enough on it's own as well just for a way for artist to gather and discuss while playing in their own pace. To jump between servers is a bit of a hassle right now IMO. Did it during the friend invite event.

Well... I could start a guild I suppose, but I'm pretty bad at being a guild leader because some weeks, I'm barely able to get online to play at all. :P I'd need a lot of dedicated officers to help me out. But it's a good idea nonetheless! At least there would be a channel ingame where artists could talk if they wanted to.

How many people would be interested in this? And just wanted to clarify, isn't MOA something like an artist guild? I've gotten the impression that a lot of artists hang out there already. So would there be a need for another guild, or everyone just join up with MOA? (noo, I'm totally not trying to get out of the responsibility of creating a guild :D)

Yeah, and I don't want to leave my server unless it would be through guesting. I really hope they implement it soon... Completely switching servers sounds like too much of a hassle when I already have such a large group of friends on Desolation. Still, a guild of artists would be nice for seeing who is online and to just chat with people ingame, and then we would make it super awesome once the guesting system works.
