Hmm.... did you accidentally still see the old calendar? The first drawing doesn't have hats, and I cheched to see if I'd missed a 2007 in the code (that's when the last calendar was around) and couldn't find anything. If it's working right, you should see a couple of quaggans in the first one. Let me know if it's not working for you, and I'll see if there's anything I can do to fix it.

IRC channel would be awesome too, but I'm not sure how many here use IRC? From my experience, it seems to be a mostly unknown notion to most. Now that I think about it, there used to be a channel for Guru artists around the time we created the Deviantart group, but after the first few days it just kind of got quiet.

Oh yay! I just figured out I have an extra 3 days to complete my entry than what I first anticipated.

I haven't sketched it out yet (I'll start playing around on Thursday or Friday), but I got the general concept down in my head.

The question now is, what kind of background to use, if any, and what should my coloring style be... Its between a coloring style more similar to my avatar, and a coloring style more closely related to my more recent in-completed digipaints.

These extra 3 days allow me to make something more complicated, but it's still to risky, last thing I want to do is get stuck and suddenly lose interest in what I was trying to make.

Just letting people know I'll be away until Friday, so if something major happens with the calendar I won't be able to do anything about it until then. I've gotten the next couple of drawings already though, so the calendar should keep running normally.


@thelastjagaroth: Thanks for spreading the link! I have twitter too, but I'm not very good at advertising through it, so the only place I got the link posted in was @GW2FanArt... good to know someone else is far more twitter-savvy than I am.

@CKABEH: Whoooaaa, can't wait to see that finished. So much stuff happening in it!

@Morag, Viatrix: Yeah, the surprise is preferable, but it's allright, no harm done. Sometimes it's difficult to stay secret with all the excitement when drawing something you shouldn't show straight away. And sometimes, the project leader forgets to tell that it's better if the drawings are kept a secret.... ^^;

@EliteZeon: *cheers for you, complete with pompoms and everything* Try not to tangle yourself doing something too complicated, even a simple Wintersday greeting is enough.

Huh... should I do the sketch with pencil and paper or should I just do this all on tablet?

Either case I finally got started... 900x900 was a lot smaller to work with than I thought, oh well I'll figure something out.

I finished the rough sketch in under a few minutes, but now I am stuck. It's been a year since I last finished a painting.

I have no idea what my color method should be!

Yeah, I noticed that in my Twitter feed too and it just made my day. It's just amazing how much attention the calendar is getting, and I'm really happy about it too because all the wonderful, hardworking artists who are taking part in the project are getting the attention they deserve. Yaaay!

You know, if you have any extra time, more artwork for the calendar is always welcome too.... And I don't mind you advertising your thread here, since both have the same theme and yours has awesome prizes too! I don't mind people using their calendar submissions in the workshop too, after all, it'll be fun to see how they develop their art for both projects. Besides, everyone owns their own art, I don't want to be a Scrooge and try to hoard it all for myself.

I love how much Wintersday themed art there will be. <3 First the calendar, and now the workshop.

You can always use a larger canvas for working on the drawing, then resize it smaller to 900x900 once it's done?

Also, start with basic colours! Sometimes it really helps to just get the flat colours in first, and then worry about colouring methods. All methods work pretty well with just putting base colours down first and then going into either painterly or comic-shading direction.

I meant the maximum size is 900x900, so it can be anything between 0x900 to 900x0. So after you finish drawing it, just resize it so that the longest side is no larger than 900. Doesn't have to be an even square.

I am finishing coloring mine at the moment .  I had  few bigger projects , but  it became too much for my still fresh skills. So it ended up being really simple. But I'm still happy with the progress.

Ah well, there's the rub.   The Wintersday workshop is about showing the progress of the piece.  But Tzu did say that it would be all right to improve the piece further after it was submitted to the calendar since the deadline for the workshop is after the calendar is done.  

I was going to keep the background simple for the calendar contribution as I usually do with my art, but adding a background for the workshop might be good practice.
