Did you notice in the FAQ (updated?):

Firearms will definitely be part of the equation — but with a unique twist.

So, what could it be? Possibilities: so bad techno that it damages the weapon holder too? Powered by your own health or energy? Part of the crafting system, so it deteriorates with time/use?

:D Every time you fire a weapon, a fluffy Charr cub dies....

I guess it will be something like Adrenaline, or some other restriction that stops you from using the firearm as a Gatling gun.

I can see that gunners will have its own bara and when it is out you have to wait til it is full (reloading)

Or even "every time you shoot with a gun/ifle" you lose 2-5 energy (depending on attribute points), this will keep the power of the guns but will be kinda useless when your out of energy :p

maby you'll get adrenaline while shooting and when you got the adrenalin bar full you have to wait intil it goes away, like warrior/paras but the other way around :p

Lol energy being lower when you shoot with a gun is for me unbalanced it wouldn't be fair towards other proffesions Because the warrior doesn't lose energy when he swings his sword once in a while.

Guns are actually used to heal rather than harm, so you fire them at team mates rather than enemies.

"ops sry, wrong bullets... I didn't mean to kill you dude..."

Used only with specific skills? So there's no autoshooting.

A little like that Oddworld game where you have unique types of ammunition for your crossbow that do different things.

I think that when they talk about "unique twists" they refer to something that wouldn't be normally part of GW.

Adrenaline, energy, these are all things that would be pretty much obvious to use as "engine" for the use of skills.

I mean, a paragon doesn't have to use stacks of spears, a ranger doesn't have to use stacks of arrows in order to keep up his main attacck. Rifles will be probably the same, a certain attack rate with it's related maximum and minimum damage.

I think that when they talk about a particular twist they refer to a particular attack system....like the S.P.A.V method in Fallout3, for instance. Or maybe it could be symply something related to use of skills.

For instance a gunner would need the skill "recharge" in order to fire with it's weapon, or he would need to prepare his next attack putting fire-powder inside the gun....somewhat "Assassin like", where they have comboes and such things...

But really, I don't know x)

My guess is that guns will have some kind of extra bar, essentially a reload bar.  Different guns do different amounts of damage, but have varying levels of ammo.  You use it up, and there is a set time that it takes to reload each gun.

I'm hoping its that when you fire at an opponent, you give him a chance to go into "bullet time" matrix style. That would actually be hilarious.

A whole bunch of kiddies screaming "Boom! Headshot!" and everyone going into "bullet time" nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah.

I'm kidding though. Please don't do this lol. :p

My guess is Magic bullets which have side effects.
Like you have a gun and gun skills. Each gun skills gives a different effect.
Skill number 1 is aoe pbaoe, skill number 2 is a single target dot and skill number 3 reduces the total damage for 10%(lasting for like 5 seconds)of the victim.

They weapon artwork we saw before also showed magic bullets, but regular ones as well.  I assume magic bullets would simply be a way to make your weapons deal elemental damage, like fire hilts for swords, etc.

If you look at the concept art, I think they mean you'll be able to use them as melee weapons too.

The twist is you need to make each bullet. The regular bullet is made with 65 Obsidian Shards, 20 Globs of Ectoplasm, 10 Armbraces of Truth, and a feather.

A magic firey bullet is made with 85 Obsidian Shards, 90 Globs of Ectoplasm, 250 Armbraces of Truth, 105 Platinum, a regular bullet, and a living Wammo of at least level 50

A magic ice bullet is made with 280 Obsidian Shards, 240 Globs of Ectoplasm, 29500 Platinum, 5 Amulets of the Mist, and a fiery bullet

It's a silly way to do it, though. As far as possible, balancing factors should be something that makes physical sense.

Simplest way to balance guns having a high damage per shot is to make them take a long time to reload, just like guns of that level of technology did in real life. Call it, say, a 3-4 second recharge time (still much shorter than the "six shots a minute if your troops are good benchmark that was set in Napoleonic times, but short enough to not be tedious) with an appropriately increased amount of damage compared to bows.

That made me laugh outloud.  We can be sure that ANet will be just as creative as Shadow Ritualist although, hopefully, we will not have wammos.

Human firearms should fire on powder,Charr-powder/firefly bullets,Asura-Electrical recharge,Norn-ice bullets,Sylvari-magic spell recharge(in other words unlimited)

Asura-should be able to attach small minigun on golems-that would be cool :p

That might aswell be it. And I hope, for the love of God, that you're right! 0_0
I'd hate for ArenaNet to implement Guns, but then just completely ruin 'em.
