Looks a lot like Borderlands mixed with WoW, which isn't a bad thing. I'll have to look out for this :).

As for the shooting, I don't think it looks like Mass Effect's. There was a bit more movement involved, and its really hard to tell much of the real gameplay because of the likely scripted scenario. The enemies did die way too easily, and some of the equipment abilities look a little strong, if that is representative of actual gameplay atm.
I'm just suprised to find they are going with F2P on this game.

- Enemies do not appear to react to shots other than when dying.
- Enemies do not appear to take more damage based on where they are shot.
- Observation based on repeated viewings, taking note of how long enemies took to die and where they were being shot
- Enemies appear to have (hidden in Firefall) health bars which must be depleted by holding down the trigger mindlessly.
I've been replaying Mass Effect (am in the middle of a session right now actually, just alt-tabbing to make sure Guru hasn't died yet), and the combat in this video strikes me as no different than any given Geth or Rachni encounter. The larger foes are extremely reminiscent of Thresher Maws in that they do not so much as flinch when you launch massive explosions into their faces, unless that happens to be the last shot it takes to kill them.
The only improvement I can see would be the usual FPS cross-hair aiming and accuracy instead of a random-ass cone of fire system that somebody at BioWare pulled out of the toilet on a hot day.

They said in their FAQ that whatever they sell in the shop will not compromise the skill-based aspects to the games so sure why not.

You may know the reasons why I was drawn to Guild Wars 2, but some of the most important ones to tell everyone are the Charr and that it's colourful and beautiful. This is colourful, which surprises me. It seems with this, Brink, and Bulletstorm we're seeing a bit of a paradigm shift away from the mud and back to what PC gaming looked like in the 90's (or maybe that's wishful thinking).
Anyway, it's colourful, not Guild Wars 2 colourful or Guild Wars 2 pretty, but it is colourful and pretty, and it has some alien plantlife there, that's a massive bonus for me because... well, I like alien worlds, I mentioned this in another thread, the music one. I love seeing things which are obviously not Earth, it fascinates me. It's like walking through the imagination of another person, and it was one of the major draws for me to the Myst Universe.
It also has this stylistic look to it that's quite interesting, it's cell-shaded and it doesn't look too gritty, all that sand does make it look a bit washed out though, but that's the only mildly negative thing I can really say about the style.
So this is interesting to me, very interesting.
I might want this.
If this has a no-grind philosophy and perhaps an alien forest area then I might want this a lot.

I wouldn't say 90s graphics, I would say stylized WoW or TF2 esque graphics. Purposefully shaded like that to give a specific feel.
Also, hate to burst your bubble, but that is Earth. Its just 2233 or something like that.
Its a cash shop, they say it won't compromise gameplay/competition. We shall see.

Could be, could be (bursted, that is)! However, those are extraterrestrial life forms they're fighting, no? It could also be extraterrestrial plant life. Haa, that plot reminds me of Teknoman. And there's a reference no one will get, but I digress.
But yes, I don't mind it being Earth, it looks interesting, and that's the main thing!!
Also, the 90's comment was one I think wasn't understood, or was misunderstood (note I didn't say graphics). It's more that 90's titles were colourful. Since then we've had the XBox, and the XBox sort of made all Western titles go very brown. It's nice to see colour returning to games.

The reason you've never heard of it before is that the game was FIRST ANNOUNCED at PAX. I think :p.

I like the idea of jumping into ships and roaming anywhere with my gun and a group.
