Possible court battle looming:

http://www.mmocultur...n-going-to.html

Also features the 5v5 (TF2-esque) pvp arena match from youtube. & vehicles:

Also the game is described as:

General:

Quote

- Team based Action Shooter
- Open world, persistent game
- >>>>>>READ THIS ZOMG<<<<<<
The game is a Cooperative Teambased Shooter, not an MMO as stated by Red 5 Studios
- The game is slated for a Q4 2011 release
- >>>>>>READ THIS ZOMG<<<<<<
It is currently a PC only title, Devs have confirmed no Mac support for now, however, it's a possibility later down the line
- F2P game with micro-transactions/cash shop
- The game will be released world wide
- Large, streaming world
- The game is an action oriented shooter with some MMO and other genre elements mixed in.
- Obvious Influence from Starship Troopers, Planetside, Tribes.
- Game is physics and skill based, twitch based game
- Game will be accessible to all, however, it won’t reduce the challenge
- There will be PvE as well as PvP
- The Wiki Wacker is the official drink of Firefall

Edit: I see Lyssa already added this faq ;)

Hmm, can see this or games like this becoming successful although F2P is that a worry?

Dynamic Content like GW2 and Rift but the cash shop might be something to watch out for.

Don't care much for the setting or the arcade feel to it. I prefer shooters where you have to aim and think.

Still, it's a step up from the generic dice roll hit/miss mechanics of current MMOs/RPGs.

Disappointed in this game having a class system. Sure, it's easier to balance, but it would have been cooler to set up a build of a weapon, a suit and three or so skills.

Like a sniper guy with that heavy jump or so.

Ah it still looks good.

Kinda sad it's a MMO though.
Just multiplayer would have been fine.

It's looks very good. However very concerned about the F2P model. Not sure the community is going to be very good... I don't normally qq on this but I've read this from other players' experiences and it's the biggest concern I've spotted to date.

It's sorta mmo, but it has different modes. I like the hybrid personally... there's some good ingredients here I think. Some ppl would like even more mmo but that will be where mmorpg's may take it on.

Looks impressive so far.

What are battleframes?

Battleframes are sets of armor and weapons that denote your class in Firefall. You will customize these pieces of armor and weapons through modules and upgrades to create your own unique style of play. Battleframes can be switched out during gameplay at a battleframe station, giving you the option to change tactics on-the-fly.

From what they've been saying, the battleframes are mostly for character/playstyle customization, and won't be too restrictive. I'm not too sure about the details on that, though. I'd think some combinations are better left out for balance purposes ;)

Seems that they're doing the "beta" like Google. Interesting for a game to emulate that, but we'll see how it goes. Also, if someone gets invites, I'd like one very much :D

Edit: y'know what, I'm just gonna double post to bump this thread.

I haven't looked into this one much but, since I hadn't seen it mentioned, apparently the game's story was written by Orson Scott Card. Hopefully it's actually involved in the game, and not just a backdrop. I always hate to see that in games. They spend time making a cool world and background, and then do nothing with it. Fantasy Earth Zero was the biggest offender imo, and so far Eden Eternal seems to touch on it. I'm about halfway into the non-expansion content, and haven't seen hide no hair of a real storyarc since the second area (besides the area stories which are ok, but nothing to write home about). Which is a shame, as the tutorial was pretty immersive imo.

I'm not huge on shooters (not counting side-scrolling ones which I love), but I'll definitely give it a shot, and really hope that it uses it's potential in full; a really immersive story-driven mmo with such a high profile writer could really make some waves imo.

edit: And just a note for anyone that might take the above as a recommendation against Eden Eternal. It's not. It's an amazing MMO imo and it's cash shop has gotten more of my money then basically every other online game I've played combined. It just hasn't used it's story potential as far as I've seen. It's definitely a top-tier game imo, it just could be so much more.

Hmm I might play it, but if GW2 comes out before then sorry, that will be my fix for 3 years +. That, Skyrim, the new Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed: The Run, Uncharted 3 and Skyward Sword. Yeah, I'm gonna be busy until July 2012 :p

looks fun. are there any options for sniping at all though? doesn't appear to have stealth embracing gameplay. :p Would've been better as a multiplayer imo. Not sure why people are hyped about it being F2P, that stinks cash shop and the potential game-breaking elements therein. Still, probably going to try it out.

I think there is stealth & some sniping; one class is Recon too.

Seen in trailer:

Team-based fps:

Spoiler

I agree F2P is sorta a liability in terms of the game experience, in terms of commercial opportunity for Red 5, it might work out very well, but for the player there's a few unwelcome doors it unlocks...

This is still happening?  There was some kind of legal spat between the developing studio and the publisher, and I was worried that it might kill the game.

Publishing in the West is still ok, no update about the rights for China/Korea tho' where the spat was at... ?

Worries about cash shop? On a Guild Wars forum? Who saw that coming?

All we can do at this point is hope, but this is a western developer--the "don't be evil" policy seems to have been embraced.
