There are some interesting things on the Timberland Falls map.

  • Ural's Delver -> possibly a reference to Ural Highstone?
  • Rankor Ruins -> ruins of Camp Rankor
  • Copperhammer Mines -> obvious thing is obvious
  • Veins of the Dragon -> nice name, any reference to the Elder Dragons?

On the events map:

  • Stone Summit Ruinator - O.o
  • Turret Syndrome - I lol'd hard on this. Tourette syndrome. ArenaNet are masters of jokes. :D
  • Caer Evermore seems to be occupied by the Orrian undead. Expel the Corruption event strengthens this idea.
  • Order of Whispers has something to do with a crystal. There's also a Raven Crystal.

I love the event names. What's Mine is Mine is another good one. They remind me of Red Alert 3 Commander Challenge mission names. :)

Just as a note, a lot of those event names are "placeholders", not what they will officially be called. They mentioned that specifically in the Events Panel.

I think this is the first time I've noticed administrator posting O__O
oh and by placeholders you mean events/ places only added for the gamescom/pax demo ? so for example some of them might be different or not even there in the real game?

@Ares - can't wait for your updated maps. -I think you should somehow be made official gw2 community cartographer :3

By that he meant that whoever came up with that event just put a random name there so they can refer to it.
Of course nothing is final and might get changed or torn out, it's not even in alpha yet!

Why wouldn't we? Just because it's a placeholder name, it doesn't mean that it can't stay the name of the event in the release/final cut of the game.

Very possible. There's an event called "Deadliest Catch" in the area where the river originates from.

Well that was the one that the dev pointed to during the panel, laughed, and brought up the topic of placeholder names.  Its possible it might stay but he seemed to imply that it would be changing.  Guess we'll find out when the game launches.

I am rather busy this week as I am away from home but hopefully I should get them done this weekend.

You do realise that in GW1 I never actually got a cartographer title as I was more into playing to get my favourite armour and then abandoning my characters. But it is a nice thought.

And about the placeholder names - will names actually used in-game or just descriptions? The names could stay but we may never know as it could be more of a developer reference. We will see.

Anyone else think that Lyssa, the goddess of Illusion (lies and half-truths) and Kormir, the Goddess Truth and Knowledge should be no where near each other?

I don't see why. Aphrodite and Ares got along quite nicely as well.

Is there a reason the southern shiverpeaks seem a lot less snowy? Have they explained any climate changes or is it a seasonal kind of thing?

Maybe the rising of Orr changed ocean currents, affecting the weather, and now that area has a slightly warmer climate.

Yea I was thinking something along those lines. Just was wondering if there was any lore speaking about it specifically.

You bet we did but then we weren't such opposites. Love and war aren't so completely opposite because of course many wars were started because of love. The Trojan War would never have started if not for love.

But to get back to a more appropriate discussion...

Everyone knows that global warming is the cause of climate change. Thanks to the Charr and their industrial age, along with the founding of The Back Citadel - the most polluting city in GW2, the ice has melted.

Or perhaps it was Primordus who warmed up the world.

Ares was much more than just a God of War. He was a God of Bloodlust and Slaughter as well, which removes him quite a bit from love. Besides, Lyssa is more about manipulating truth than straight out lies, which in turn brings her closer to Kormir.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Continue ;)

Visit Pre-Searing. There is a lake in the middle of the city. After the Searing the lake is dried up, and most of the NPCs hang out there in the lake bed. If the water came back into that lake over 250 years, that wouldn't flood the whole city. The only description we have of the city so far, from Ghosts of Ascalon, does not claim that any part of it is flooded.

I wouldn't say that is quite right. Some features of the landscape which are least likely to change over 250 years, for example the lake on the left, are not in the correct place. Not to mention that the black-and-white map isn't 100% accurate. You appear to be trying to get the maps to fit the same width whereas the black-and-white map appears to actually expand further to the left and right sides.

From the dragonbrand map and the corresponding overlays you can see that not only has the water came back but there is another significant section of water that covers the city. There is a scene from one of the trailers that shows the wall and a large body of water so I expect that is where the city is.
