If you don't mind the buzzing sound, go for the bolt - it has all the special effects you can think of (aura, footsteps, flash+sound when you hit someone), while the predator only has a special firing sound and perhaps a muzzle flash.

I'd pick the one that has the most chance of being used.

By example I play a guardian, and while I absolutely love Bolt, I will never buy it because in 350h played on my guardian I didn't even unlock the sword skills yet.. :P
Just go for the legendary you can find the best compromise about skin & usefulness for.

The good thing is that most of the materials for legendaries are the same, so you can just start going for a legendary and decide which one you want later down the road.

This is true as long as you can wait a month or two for your legendary. Hardest parts to get are pre cursor and some of the gifts will cost over 200g e.g. gift of bolt. I wouldn;t start buying gifts until you have the pre-cursor best advice I can give. I really wanted bolt but couldn;t afford so was going for shield. I hadn;t equiped my chosen nor had I made the gift of history but I had almost all the mats (was a lodestone or two short). Suddenly chosen's price rose, I sold chosen and bought zap, converted all my mats and now I am 90g in runestones from bolt.

Moral is, don;t put it all together til last moment and don;t leave precursor as last item. As this allows you to have flexibility.

i think his point is no matter what you need to spend 100g on icy runstones, you need to have the 500 WvW badges, you need the gifts that require 250 of every tier 6 crafting material. that stuff takes time, time you can spend deciding on which one you will specifically go for. unless you're one of those people who just buy a ton of gold to get that stuff done right away(IE: most people who already have a legendary weapon)

The point I was getting at is by leaving the pre-cursor last you may never get your legendary. Its the hardest part in terms of gold - no other item needs that much gold at a time. Runestones can be bought in pieces as can the other mats. The weapon needs 100g+ at one time. Its much harder to save that much gold. It may come that if he has all his mat by the end of next month but his pre cursor is 300g. Now what? Despite all the hardwork, he may be months/ never get his legendary because he left it as the last item. This is what is happening with many twilight chasers,

Starting with karma and making some of the easier gift is a good start esp as mastery and fortune are the same, but if you don;t have your precursor half way through you may be in for disappointment. It may become the norm to get your pre cursors first.

Oh I know exactly what you mean.  In fact, I'm getting to the point where I might just stop the grind because I don't have my precursor yet.  But you can still just start grinding karma, gold, etc, and decide on your legendary when you either have enough gold to buy one or get lucky and find a drop.

But, as you said, the bast weapon is the one take takes most money. And it may take a long time to farm those money. So wouldn't you encounter the same problem as to getting the materials 1st? Since you are spend the same(perhaps even longer) time in getting the base weapon as the other materials?

Farm karma, save gold and craft the common gifts while you decide what legendary you want sounds legit.

I for one am going for Bolt simply because i love the skin and special effects (have already seen it ingame) + sword is my main weapon so i'll be using it nonstop.

Farm karma and save gold is a good plan, but there are few to none gifts that you can craft without gold. And by that I mean 10-20g+. The recipe for the 2 gifts need 10g each. Gift of magic and might will involve purchasing some t6 mats (clovers and farming may give 50-60%) - yes most t6 mats are cheap but blood, scales and totems are all over 2s each. thats quite a bit of gold. Many of the gifts require lodestones adding another 50-100g to the recipe. 250 ori ingots costs tens of golds. Basically by crafting these gifts you'd have spent over 100g easy, probably closer to 200-250g if you are making bolt/ twilight.

Mystic clovers will need many many ectos, even salvaging your drops in cursed shore may (probably will) not be enough and fortune needs a further 250 ectos. Basically what I'm getting at is stocking up on mats and farming karma is great, but your first real purchase should be a precursor and not might or magic or metal etc. Farming them and making them is great, but try and save your money on the pre-cursor. Once you have the pre cursor you have taken a massive stride to the legendary.

PS: I've gotten nothing against karma farming and gathering mats/ gold (I started that way), but if you are going for one of the harder legendaries then try and acquire your pre cursor as soon as possible or you'll either never make it/ have to wait a while when pre cursor prices drop. People who think they'll get lucky in the forge usually don;t.

You are correct. I'm not buying more mats, I'm only saving. Maybe I should sell everyting until I get the precursor and THEN start saving the mats/buying them. Because yeah, they cost like 50g more each week, it's insane.
