So what weapons/utilities/builds are you guys using to karma farm? I have yet to start mine, but ranger lacks AoE unless you spec into condition damage which doesn't do too well in the zerg as everything dies too fast for conditions to tick long enough for a tag in my previous experience. I know running in a party increases tagging ability, but I was wondering how to help in the tagging and not just leech off others.

I was thinking Axe/Torch + Sword/Axe would be a good combo for tagging mobs with flame/spike/vipers traps and Rampage as One. Build would obviously spec in reduced trap CD, increased trap area, and reduced offhand CD/increased offhand range.Torch for the AoE burn/ damage pulse, Axe MH for the ricochet AoE, Axe OH for whirling defense, and Sword MH for those 1 on 1 fight events, and traps to place as a pre-emptive strike to when mobs pop up.

The attack speed of the axe is worrisome though since it is pretty slow, torch is mainly burning/condi damage which guardians provide enough of and the way duration condi's work is that whenever you apply burning/poison/chill the damage of whoever first put the burn on them is only counted and your burn is just extending the duration of theirs if you weren't the first person to apply burn.

An alternative to this would be Axe/Axe and LB since LB or SB since LB has Barrage (but is otherwise meh), and SB has superior single target dps, but I feel like Sword MH is comparable damage wise 1on1. You have tons of people zerging and a party so theres not that much to worry about if you get downed/ are in melee range.

What are your experiences / advice?

Axe/Axe and Longbow (Barrage is awesome), with Flame & Spike Trap, and quickening zephyr usually does it for me at least. :)

Thanks thats good to hear. Have you tried torch though? I feel like Torch #5 is like an improved flame trap because it does more damage.

I use axe/torch and shortbow. This is because axe main hand has nice aoe and I'm condition damage specced, so torches burning is good for my build. I use shortbow instead of longbow since it is much faster and longbow generally feels slow to me. Also, while barrage is great, you can use it quite rarely and to me it is not enough to compensate the other skills. I do use longbow from time to time, though, on events where there are lots of mobs which have low health. For utilities I use Quickening Zephyr, Flame trap and Spike trap. I usually use Rampage as One as my elite, but sometimes Entangle can be handy too.

@OP, sorry I am not trying to hijack your topic but I saw this statement and had a question.

I have heard this but do not understand how this helps, can someone explain it to me?

Is it that if you are in a group then when someone in the group tags a mob then it counts for everyone or ??

Again sorry OP.

Shortbow with sigil of fire for aoe, stack as much precision as you're comfortable with. Axe with warhorn or torch for second set, i use this set to build luck stacks. Important traits are quickness on pet swap and piercing arrows.
qz and a couple of traps for util skills

From my understanding, and I only recently checked on this cause in most MMOs the "party for extra loot drops" is just hogwash, it works like this:

Your damage solo = your damage.
Party damage = your damage.

This is when factoring how much damage you need to do to a mob to get the "tag".  So 5 peeps gonna put out more damage than you solo, and that's what counts when tagging.

This is even more critical if you are under level.  I couldn't figure out exactly what it was that prevented me from getting tags til I researched this.  Not to mention in massive farm fests where mobs melt as soon as they spawn, I often got no credit.

Just running two traps specced into condition dmg made a huge difference to me when it comes to mobtagging. Ive found nothing that compares to the traps while being in CS farming. Piercing arrows can go back to bed or something... take a day off
