At first I was a bit skeptical reading it, but he/she said something about weapons tweaking, which I feel is really needed.

Who knows, maybe I'll pick my ranger back up from my thief :D

I was actually pretty psyched about the other utility skills being buffed too, options is always fun!
Also wondering what kind of tweaking hes talking about, just numbers or more the function of the skills

Well I don't expect it to fix all the problems once and for all. But it's a good start!
At least he acknowledged all the major issues of the ranger class. ;)

Cautiously optimistic..

Long way to go and lots of things to see to. Don't get my hopes up and all that.

As mentioned, it's good to hear this from Mr. Peters. But after the SB/Crossfire fiasco - I'll remain cautious.

I have been playing my lvl 80 ranger but I can see a lot of room for improvement, like Mortec I am also Cautiously optimistic..

Well some necro players DID say that they were promised the same thing by the same person at late Sept. And nothing really has changed until today. I'm not sure if same fate will happen on rangers though... :(

I am not playing my Ranger until serious overall changes are made and shortbow receives some attention. #BoycottTheRanger

shortbow receives some attention? are you insane? its still our best weapon by far , how about some gs/sword/dagger love?

All our weapons are subpar and the nerf on auto attack has significantly hurt it. Where have you been recently? Goodness...

Just because other weapons suck doesn't justify asking for them to tweak the short bow as well. I can't believe this needs explaining...

If this really patches the ranger up some. I'll consider going back to it. Currently my elementalist puts the ranger to shame.

Ranger seriously lacks build options and diversity. Nearly all the weapons are extremely dull to use and subpar to nearly every other class I've played so far. The utilities are even worse; the only solid ones are the survival utilities. Traps would be ok if they all generated fields and would (if traited) be usable from 1200 range away. The rest is pure garbage.

Even the shortbow, seen as our best weapon, needs some serious attention. I should always be tempted to use #2-5 for extra damage or offensive benefits; but shortbow has nothing of that. You just spam #1 all the time, until you need that cripple or that retreat, it's silly.

Not going to hold my breath waiting for it, chances are this is something for "down the road".

Short bow nerf was the nail in the coffin for me, on its own it didn't make me drop my ranger.
But with all the other issues with the profession, the short bow fix really felt like a pimp slap from Anet.

Honestly, I would love for Rangers to be able to use a pistol.
I really don't see why we can't.

I would guess because there isnt a reason why every character cannot use every weapon.

They decided Ranger gets to be a bow master but not get firearms.
Also if they gave them pistols its 3-5 more ranger skills so you would probably lose another weapon to counter it.

(i've made both a thief and a ranger as alts and waiting to see which one i'll use past my main ele) :)

My ranger is only good for an extra character slot of farming orichalcum nodes.  And even then, is still the slowest node farmer by far out of all my 3 characters.

The lack of any dev mentioning pets anywhere lately is a serious disappointment.  They are so unbelievably broken, and jon peters: "pets will be ready for release."  lol.  Not one single patch has helped pets after release, they still suck.

Bug fix this, bug fix that; tweak weapons - it wont matter.  Rangers are fundamentally broken since they are dependent on a buggy mechanic (pets.)  Pets broken in pve, pvp, wvw.


It will be 1.5 months after the "sb 40ms not 40ms" + new quickness bug catastrophe before they make 1 single change.  Rangers are not a priority, and after the November patch; rangers will probably get nothing.


Devs dont play ranger.  Devs dont know how to design ranger.  Devs dont know how to fix ranger.  Rangers cant be "good" at damage or be good at bunker, and pets cant really be good at all.


I'd like to be optimistic, but I'm not in the slightest.  I dont expect "ranged assassin," but I wish the severe fundamental problems were sorted out with pets and rangers were allowed to do damage.  
Not just have pets attempting to chase down targets while you fire slowww moving, medium-low dmg projectiles that miss/obstruct a non dodging target.

What exactly is so broken with pets right now? I don't seem to have problems with them at all..

my thing with them is when I click f2 once thats all it should take. And they should be able to attack while running in proximity to someone running. Most of the time f2 means they will stop and hit where the target was, and if someone runs past them it takes them a few secs to figure it out and then play catchup. Now if you are a mellee ranger then this isn't as noticeable.

Some other things are if you send your pet in in some instances, it wont jump off a short legde it will run a full circle aggroing mobs along the way.

With those factors a large part of our dps in nullified in wvw. That is why alot are asking for a slight buff given to us if we choose not to use a pet as this may be easier than fixing all the other issues with them. In pve these issues arnt an issue really. In dungeons they die very quik and are limited to bears as only reall option.

with all due respect you sir are stupid, or too lazy, comming from someone that played wow since vanilla, hunters pets there were 10x times as broken than pets here, also just get used to dismiss your pet, before jumps, and its all good...just learn to adapt -.-

Well that wasnt a whole lot of respect imo. I was just tring to answer the above posters question, that doesnt mean I din't learn how to deal with the issues. You calling one stupid , lazy etc for posting is just unsat. but whatever its a free country.

By your logic you would rather bugs to be ignored and the general population just suck it up, than bring up bugs to the devs so that they may fix it?

If it's an issue, not working as intended, then of course it should be brought up and changed.

Try a beastmaster spec (0/20/20/0/30) with the "natural healing" and "carnivorous appetite" traits and two cats. They deal much more damage than i do and really don´t die fast, if you manage your healings and dodge rolls (protection) right. It works quite well.

Let's see if this update will be able to make me play ranger again.

Maxed lvl on it, compared to mes and engi and guardian lvl 80 i have, made it storage-oric farming char and no more.
