Is a staff bunker pretty much unkillable? Yes. Is it fun? Hell no. You can't kill anything because you do less damage than a warriors self healing. Yet rangers get all the attention now it seems. They too have a viable spec.

Also a bunker guard is just as hard to kill if not more, than a bunker ele, while having more CC and damage.

Lol for wanting our class to do everything. I agree with you that Guardians have more CC and damage even while in bunker, but they don't have the same support we do. Just because Guardians have good damage and CC while in bunker does not mean we should to... It just means they should be nerfed. Having "decent" damage on a bunker spec just doesn't make sense.

Guardians actually have a viable glass cannon spec (although they are more cannon than glass).

Bunker spec is nice and all, but it doesn't mean much in the greater scheme of things. Having one spec, with one weapon, which excells at a very specific role in only one aspect of the game, is a far cry from a fun and balanced class.

This. If you judge a class on a situational build you're doing something wrong. There is no way to get a clean across the board comparison going. 'My bunker is unkillable unless the enemy..." or "If I go glass cannon I can two/three hit this or that..." are completely worthless comments. They call that cheese builds.

A good build is one that *emphasizes* an aspect of the class without losing the advantages the other aspects of the class have to offer. I can go pure condition but that would still make me weaker than a more balanced setup that also factors in some crit chance and power. I could go full toughness and go wild on defensive traits but that would still kill me because I can not inflict enough damage to destroy things. So yes, Aether and others, you are completely right when you say 'not a single build is really viable'. But you are just approaching this class in the wrong way.

It took me some time to figure out that pure min-maxing in this game simply does not work, at least not for the Ele. I play a Guardian as well and agree it is a far tougher class that can still dish out some frightening damage while taking hits. I've tried all sorts of builds with both classes and got the gear to accompany those builds. I ended up combining several set types to get the right stat balance and stayed clear of the pure glass or pure bunker philosophy. And, consequently, I really don't recognize all these problems people are facing with Elementalists.

Give it a shot sometime.

Right now, the only classes that feel "finished" are Guardians, Thieves and Mesmers. Warriors are almost there, but need some slight tweaks/buffs.

Necros, Rangers and Eles pretty much suck. Bugs, skills and traits a fudged up, and lack of damage, etc. Engineers aren't far behind.

:/

Complaining about Guardians? U jealous? ;))
Joke.
Nah, i agree with you, guardians is one of the few classes that seems finished, however we got nerved on GS.
And i play guardian, ele and ranger and yeah, ele is kinda difficult, same as rangers but i am convinced that will change over the next one or two months.
Just be patient and enjoy the game ;)

Even if I agree about buffing the Ele, Ranger is the priority right now. It sucks in PvP, it sucks in WvW, it sucks in PvE, IT EVEN SUCKS IN FREAKING RUNNING AROUND(Not only roaming, but pure PvE running). Where is justice, when I love the ranger in every game, but in every game I played its a total waste of energies to try to do something useful with a ranger? :/

That's wonderful, and I'm sure most people here agree that rangers need some love too, but it's kind of beside the point. You don't see us hijacking the ranger forum telling people that ele's need buffing more? We should be backing eachother up against all the 'we're totally not overpowered everyone just needs to learn how to play I mean sure I've only ever played this class class and so do 2/3 of the sPvP population but it's obviously coincidence and everyone I kill just sucks L2P noob...' classes, not arguing over who needs the help more.

I actually quite like the aurora borealis effect on it. Though I'm farming for my incinerator (just finished my clovers :D) cus full CoF armor plus Emberglow plus Incinerator equals some pretty badass fire look.

I played maybe 1 hour of PVE last month. With 5-6 hours queue time for WVW I see no incentive to do any PVE when I can do PVP without needing to level grind. I did the first 2 dungeons, was underwhelmed, never touched PVE again since that.

I'm level 43 actually. As I said I don't care about PVE in the slightest. Tried it, didn't like it. The one time I got into WVWVW it was cool but I don't have the time to queue for 5-6 hours (and it's just a zergfest anyway) so I see absolutely no point in leveling to 80 when I'm 80 in the only pvp that really matters anway.

That's one of the few things GW2 got absolutely right: Not having to slog through pve to get to pvp at maxlevel, and not having to grind pve for pvp equipment.

You know, threads like this really make me facepalm. With my Elly, I've played a vast variation of builds, from S/D burst to D/D auramentalist, ranged aoe with staff, support with heals, sorta tank and more. At no point in time did I feel weak and that's playing a mesmer as my other character. Did I need to use more buttons to achieve the same as others? Mostly, yes. But in return I was awarded with an astonishing amount of combos that make all the difference in the world.

The only thing I'd change on elementalist now is making conjures scale. Everything else is - yes, I'll dare go that way - fine.

That's the thing, the class 'does' perform more or less ok against players who can't counter CC or kiting, but any enemy who dies to those tactics would have died anyway, then they (and the people who killed them) go whine that ele's are fine, while those of us actually fighting decent players are screwed.
