Been playing Gw2 for a while now, experimenting with classes and such, but I still haven't really decided on a class.  I have a high level ranger, and most other classes are decently high but have mostly been used for pvp.

So far, it seems that elementalists have the highest heals, through water attunement, heal on cast glyph, and heals from water.  Rangers have pretty crappy self heals, though healing spring is good, they have no other heals really.  Pets don't count T.T

Just wondering what everyone's experiences are with healing.  I know the game is more suited towards damage rather than healing, but I love bunker builds, or just surviving for huge amounts of punishment.

The unicorn thief build is insanely good with self healing (to the point of being broken)

Guardian > Ele > Thief if we're talking just red bars go up.

Thief > Guardian > Ele if we're talking about mechanics/tools to stay alive and heal.

- I want that purple stuff.

Healing shout build warriors are also up there but definitely a slot below the 3 already mentioned.

You want to play a guardian (with mace as main weapon if you want to tank and heal a lot with the first skill).  The class with the best survival skills, and being offensive at the same time.

Shouts and Virtues can give you and everyone around you buffs for reduce incoming damage, heals, aegis to block attack damage (except condition damage), and increase damage.  There is a trait that gives you more damage for each buff you have on (9-10%), and 10% more damage if you have aegis, 10% more damage for foes under the burning stat, and don't forget retaliation damage.

Your trait line can be modified to heal you every time you use skills that create any type of symbols, so if you are using a mace's first skill, you get 2x the heals and it applies to anyone who is in the symbol (1 healing is from the skill, and the 2nd from the trait line).  You can make any symbols larger and last longer, and have the symbols apply debuffs for foes.  What this means is that you are not relying on a certain skill with a long cool down as your bread and butter for healing, AoE Heals can be done with anything that create symbols (utility skills or weapon skills).

You have an elite skill that is dedicated to healing people 1-2k hp every second, or fully heal hp for up to 5 people.  You can make your trait to heal and grant protection when healing people.  I can go on and on, but there is so much that escapes my mind atm. There is no other class that can match the survivability of a guardian when it comes to bunker builds.

If you are only talking about self healing then guardian is the best. Nothing can really match Altruistic healing.

Probably double blast finisher with evasive arcana through a water field on an ele.

Guardian for strongest heal slot skill though.

They match it for the first few seconds then they run out of endurance and cooldowns and fall off dramatically. Guardians don't.

AH heals for every stack of every buff you apply. If you apply 1 stack of might to yourself it triggers once. If you apply 1 stack to yourself and 4 teammates it procs 5 times. If you apply 3 stacks to your entire team(like VoJ does) it procs 15 times. If you apply a symbol of prot with empowering might you can get 10 procs every second(FYI that's over 700 HP/s alone) by doing nothing but spamming #1 with Hammer. Start adding in other things like resolve, regen, heal on dodge(you'll prob have perma vigor too) and then decide to trollmode with something like staff #4 which gives 12 stacks of might to nearby allies(yep 60 procs of AH!) plus a 2k heal at the end and you have a 6k+ heal on a 16s cooldown that's not even your normal heal spell! Then we could get into all your virtues proc'ing group wide buffs but I think you get the picture.
