Ugh, I'm trying to acculate the 2,400 Gems required to purchase 3 additional character slots, so I can have a character of each class.

$30 is an outrageous amount to spend for those 3 additional character slots.  For $45 I could simply purchase another account.

Any suggestions?  I hate to contribute to the gold black market but $30 is simply ridiculous.

Wait for halloween to end, maybe gem price will drop a little.
Then purchase with golds.

use your current 5 characters to build up enough gold to trade for the gems, shouldn't take more than a month

lol, that amount is nothing compare to what some people spent on Black Lion Keys early on, after the Halloween event started.

I hear you, OP.  Three character slots is currently equal to about 20 gold.  Certainly the Halloween event spiked gold->gem prices, but even before the event the trend was still going up, and there's no reason to think that as the game ages it won't simply continue to rise.  20 gold for a casual, non-flipper is insane.  That's probably 6-8 months (less if you never craft anything).  And of course, 6 months from now the price will probably be even higher.

Certainly the character slot and bank slot limitations were set excruciatingly low so that people would be heavily tempted to just forgo waiting and use real money.  That was built into the game from the start by Anet as a revenue stream.  And for anyone who doesn't buy gems with real money, it is intentionally frustrating.

Mmm' yes cause gw1 didn't start with more than 20 slots in shared bank or more than 4 character slots, or 45 inventory slot, or material storage, or even mini pet storage.. no sir, you have it so hard in the beginning of gw2. Its all the cash shops fault of course. Let's just ignore that their previous game started you off with even less and you couldn't buy more characters, bag slots or bank tabs with in game currency.

To the OP, save your money, sell all gathered crafting mats, and go farm events. You get to have the satisfaction of earning your upgrades by actually playing the game.  The answer to all the 'how do I make money?' Questions is the same. Play the game. Be it killing monsters, doing events, wvwvw, or playing the market game.  You need to do something to get anything in return.  Some ways are more difficult than others, the short way is pulling out your wallet and paying for a short cut.

Other than sarcasm I'm not even sure what you're saying here.  Anet made a game with only 5 character slots, 8 classes, and made you able to buy more easily for $10.  It's a revenue stream.  I'm not sure you can disagree with that in a logical sense.  It is intentional.  The bank is intentionally small so that you'll want to upgrade.  What happened in another game is irrelevant; this is just common sense.

20 gold is easy to far, so just buy the gems with gold. Besides you dont have to buy all 3 char slots at once, so buy one, play with a new cahr earn some gold and buy the second one etc etc etc.

5 gold a day is eaily obtainable with some hard work. 10 also possible. 2-3 is easy. If it's 20 gold for all 3 slots you're looking at 2-10 days depending on how hard you want to work. Actually it's not even work, it's just playing the game.

They are just botting/flipping/or bluffing about it. For me in all honesty is quite hard to get 1g/hour farming Orr non-stop. I don't play de TP.

Extra character slots, bags, and bank space is easy to get trough gold/gems exchange the more higher level characters you have the easier it get`s,those things are cheap !
Unlike some other things namely Legendary weapon ( precursor and additional stuff needed to make one), i still have hard time to believe that someone can farm that much gold.....

Anet also made a game with 4 character slots, 6 classes, and no means to upgrade inventory or bank space.  Of course it is intentional, you don't accidentally design a game.  The difference is that with GW2, people have the option to upgrade from day 1, using in-game gold or if they choose, using their own money.  Yes it is a source of revenue, ANET is a business, who would of guessed that they need a source of income.  Deal with it.

lol , you can make 1G easy with just selling orichalcum, and if you have 2 characters, that's 2G easy, and the Orichalcum run usually takes 15 minutes each character (if all locations are known). Plus, on the way of the Orichalcum run, you can kill the Sparks that drop the Charged Lodestones that you can sell in the TP for almost 2G each. So basically, in 30 minutes, pretty much you can do around 2 to 6 Gold if lucky, if not lucky, you can do as a minimun 2G in 30 minutes. And this is just an example, there are plenty more ways to get gold in game. Some advices, stop farming Orr for hours, unless you are after the Karma farm. keep checking the TP and buy for cheap, sell for higher.

Definately sell all your crafting materials to save up and never ever pass gathering something - when the game first came out, instead of hording and working on professions I sold everything and was able to buy 5 bank slots and save up 3400 gems pretty quickly (admittedly, it was 100gems for 20s, but then the most expensive items on the TP were about 20g as money was still scarce.)

Vendor/AH most weapons you find and salvage whites. I've also made good money in WvW capping towers and stuff. Don't forget there are chests at the end of jumping puzzles as well as random chests hidden throughout the world! Completing the high-level maps give exotics that I've had worth over 40s on the AH too.

Just this week I worked on seeing some of the explorer-mode dungeons I haven't been in out of curiosity and was able to accumulate another 1k gems so I could get all the Halloween pets. I only play 3 hours every other day and do whatever I feel like doing. If you are thoughtful with what you find in-game, you can make money pretty easily.

As others have said, just farm gold and buy it with that... worked for plenty of people.

Ok! I have approximately enough gold to purchase 2400 Gems.  Now do I wait because it seems the cost of Gems might be dropping a bit since Halloween is over or make the purchase now.

Why the rush? I'm waiting for gems to hit back to at least 40s until I start buying again.

Would be best to wait a few more until nov 14, just incase there are new things in the gem store for the nov 15 update.

I luckily salvaged everything when the game first came out, and materials were very expensive.
Managed to get all the gems i need just from selling all these materials.

$10 is a completely reasonable price for a character slot. It was done this way in GW1 also.
Put on some mf go do events sell your rares. they're like 19-20s each btw. 7 gold (that you earned playing a game) for 1 chracter slot sounds like a pretty damn good deal to me.

you have 5 character slots. play those first to 80, buy gems regularly using some spare change. you'll get there pretty quickly.
also, 30 dollars isn't that costly, in EU we would pay 30 euros, which is a lot more.
