either deceptive or shortsighted.

I'm guessing both. I really love this game, and ANet has been good to me. Their blatant greed and deception just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I do however think that the current market for expensive materials and precursors, etc is rather unfair and something needs to be done about that. But, I think that's entirely unrelated from the issue of gold exchange rates, etc and doesn't have to be handled in that fashion.

Why does arenanet even sell gold then? They said it themselves that the prices of these things are getting to the level where they wanted them to be. (minus the precursors).

I couldn't tell you to be honest. I personally would rather they didn't. I think the economy needs to be dealt with in-game, not out of it. The entire system of drop rates, crafting, etc is rather broken in my book. Those things need to be fixed.

I hope we will see these changes soon. I'm all for spending a couple hundred hours working towards a legendary, but when it's give or take a hundred hours, I have to draw the line. GW2 is giving F2P games a bad worse name imo.

I agree with this, and I'm hoping those are the changes they're talking about making.

They have already said there adressing the bot issue, the hacking issue is probably worse right now, I have not seen many bots lately and alot of items are starting to rise in price instead of being worthless so looks like what there doing is working.

You may not have seen many bots lately. Me, I found two different groups of Engineer bots in Harathi Hinterlands (walked from Lion's Arch to put off having to do the Destroyer Queen mission for the Skritt in the upper-left corner) this morning.

The worst part of this is the fact that currently ArenaNet is messing up BIG time and banning a ton of real players for botting! Don't believe me? Check the official forum. Hundreds if not thousands of posts in the last week alone about being wrongfully banned for botting. I'm one of them. I've been banned since tuesday night for supposedly botting. And I REPORT bots constantly. So i'm playing the waiting game on getting my account unbanned...AGAIN since this happened at launch. It's just wrong. ArenaNet is obviously having some issues, but they wont tell us, which just adds insult to injury.

Were you farming a lot?  ....could be a factor.

During this "bot" crisis I did the math early on and figured out that Blue-mats were going to tank in value so I stopped farming them entirely and went straight for cash in ~25 Silver chunks by running lots of different Dungeons.  (playing the market might have been a lot faster but I don't find that "fun").

I have to say the bots are sometimes VERY obvious; Incredible easy to ban. Plus the game could auto report suspicious activities, like repetitive use of skills, etc, etc.

The game i used to play had player polices. There was so called sheriff badge for some players picked among well known players. They were able to teleport bots to so called darkroom and then the company dealed with them. What you guys think of this? Ofcourse GW2 is  still young so who is well known player? That badge grants power to do more harm than bots too if not in right hands. In that game it worked very well. (sadly the company didn't)

Yeah and I saw a million posts made about how ArenaNet was the best company ever and that there are no bugs or bots anywhere in game and never have been!

See, I can make up big numbers as well.

There was no where close to hundreds or thousands posts about people being wrongfully banned.
Funny really. People whine that ArenaNet is not banning enough bots. Now they ban like mad and people whine that they banned some (probably much less than those actually reporting it on the forums) wrongly.

Keep in mind that in 9 out of 10 cases all those people shouting that they have been "wrongfully banned" was proven as fully justified ban.

No. Players should NEVER be given that kind of power.

Nope, I was doing WvW being active in chat. Logged out, got back on like 6 hours later And I was banned.

You weren't banned for what you were doing immediately before the ban was given, you were banned for doing something bot-like at some point in the last 4-8 weeks.  So, have you ever spent a few hours mindlessly farming Shel/Pen, for example?

So... article about the scourge of boting went into "there are two guy named after a semi known figure in recent history people don't like" and they are not banned instantly... First of all, boting and offensive names don't go in the same box... Boting has global effects, you can play on same server as the "offensive name guy" for years with out seeing him once.

Nope, I don't even do farming runs like most of the people! However I'm a ranger and since I sometimes play solo people probably auto
automatically report me...especially with a name that some ppl could think is a bot name. "Lol Lol Lol Guy." but still, it's really annoying. Talked to a family member that plays Gw2 as well this morning. Big defender of ArenaNet and it's policies, and he still said this a load of crap. Obviously something's wrong with their systems on catching bots. it really turns me off and doesn't make me want to encourage friends to buy the game anytime soon. "it's a fun game, just know you could be wrongfully banned at any minute!"

Assuming the bots are operating from a number of countries and they are funded by other criminal activity then you cannot stop them by direct means.
As fast as you close the accounts they will open more and indirectly fund anet by buying accounts.
If you make it harder to steal accounts they will buy more and its pretty impossible for anet to prove someone is using stolen money to buy a game.
You can either leave the bots alone or attempt to concentrate your efforts on banning players who buy gold.
I think that might be the only chance you have of stopping the botting make gw2 harder for them to make a profit from and they will move onto other games that are less of a hassle.

This banning would ideally be applied to players who it can be determined bought gold at any time since launch.
Its a little unfair to crack down on new cheats and leave those who so far have got away with it to profit.

No. Players should NEVER be given that kind of power.
In many other games, they have that power every day and actually build huge communities around it.
This one for instance that I was an Admin for:  http://steamcommunit.../groups/vaultf4
For more than a year I banned multiple people every week, sometimes several a day... and I never ONCE had a contested one, let alone an overturned ban. (though I'll admit, a great deal of the other admins I talked with weren't quite so clear on Programming and game Coding so they couldn't just "eyeball it" like I could ... and some of them even turned to the dark side and had to be banned themselves).  In other games without dedicated servers, I've had to record Video of suspected hackers but they were ALWAYS banned eventually even if the GM's couldn't tell like I could, eventually their Detection software FOUND the 3rd party Script's Injection memory-signature and they were auto-banned.

On occasion I sometimes cleared falsely accused players as well, and would note that most hardcore players given this responsibility, almost always sympathize first with the Accused until it's proven beyond a shadow of a doubt (as opposed to Paid GM's who sometimes have Quotas to fill  )  ... I'd also point that the Majority of people given these jobs in a Paid Capacity, are not experts like me, they're just Friends/Cronies of the Developers who were already living in the Area, and wanted a job in the industry & didn't have specific work-experience in content creation.  IE: they're basically the dishwashers and are paid just enough to be contractually obligated to the Support Staff's main agendas.

(It took years of goading before I finally volunteered for it BTW.  ...and the reason I eventually quit is b/c there's a lot of stress involved in constantly second guessing yourself & it doesn't leave you a lot of time to enjoy other games/hobbies ...it's only something you can do for an extended period of time if you're really really getting a lot of satisfaction out of it)

It sucks.  I must admit that the few times I spent 20 minutes or so on my Ranger (with a bear!) farming Trolls in Frostgorge I was a little nervous people might get the wrong idea.  Still, assuming that they are correctly resolving these sorts of issues within a day or two I'd actually rather they banned borderline cases and then reviewed them than that they let bots get away with it by being a bit grey.  That all hinges on them reviewing cases that are appealed quickly and accurately, but the initial tools being too strict is better than them being too lenient (and they can't be perfect.)

Not on Borlis Pass. Just saw a group of 3-4 (hard to tell, at times :/) Rangerbots farming the bandit cave along the north road of Kessex about an hour and a half ago.

The point here is that the only real way ANet can compete with bots is by giving us about 5 times more gold per gems. Until that happens, there will be bots, they will be everywhere, and there's nothing we can do about it.
