I know.
And Warhammer 40K is very inspired by that same book.

Ah OK, hehe, I'm kinda out of today so I didn't catch on to the underlying meaning of the post.

There already is a W40K movie.
It is called Starship Troopers and was released over 10 years ago.

Unfortunately, yes. Rogue trader era 40k is very much Like that movie, yes. Plus Tyrannids are definitely inspired by a) Xenomorphs(Alien) and B) those bugs from the Starship Troopers.

But I meant something better, something more Inquisitorial/more Eldary. You know, "The Enemy Within"...

Imagine if Eisenhorn or Ravenor were turned into movies. That's what I am talking bout!

Well, sorta fitting. His version of Star Trek felt more like Star Wars anyway. :P

(I'm still waiting for my Deep Space Nine movie >_<)

Old news is old,
let's just hope they'll do a good work like they did with The Avengers

I was disappointed when it turns out it wasn't Zach Snyder doing a Star Wars take on 7 samurai.  That was a cool rumor while it lasted.  I mean one would have hoped Disney would have went for someone like Peter Jackson or Chris Nolan to lead the postquels, but no, it had to be the guy who made a bad reboot of Star Trek.

The writer is just as important. The guy who's writing it wrote Toy Story 3 - I haven't watched it yet regrettably but I believe it was very good, so at least there's a competent person behind the pen. Wether he's right for Star Wars or not remains to be seen!

Im a huge Trek fan and Star Wars fan. I loved what Abrams did with the Trek reboot. Best Sci-Fi out in a long time. Now Star Wars? Yep definitely looking forward to this.

Yeah, I heard TS3 was good as well.

Here's the real PITA to doing writing the postquels: you need to write something that makes it feel Star Wars, but it can't be a rehash of what's gone on before it.  So where does that leave things?

First 3: evil takes over the galaxy.
Second 3: good takes it back.
Third 3: now what?

Toy Story 3 was fantastic.

And I'm really not too worried about the new Star Wars. I know it's cliché to say at this point, but I really do think it would be difficult to make a movie worse than the prequels. Assuming Lucas stays away from the production, we'll be better off.

I firmly believe that one of the bigger reasons why the prequels were bad was that Lucas had too much power. Nobody would say "no" to his bad ideas, like they did for the original trilogy.

Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter.

Well I think they could explore greyer territory in the new trilogy. Lucas was always about good vs evil, maybe too much so. I think that a more balanced approach would only benefit the movies, one with genuine moral ambiguity. As you say, black and white have both had their time in the spotlight - time for grey to poke its nose in :P

I'm not saying that it wouldn't work in the right setting, however post RotJ doesn't lend itself to grey very well.  The best I can come up with  for a grey storyline is they fail to put together a new republic and it's more of a sengoku period with the Jedi as the mediators.  Plus this is disney and their first rule is protect the mouse so that seems unlike.  Given the choice of Abrams it seems like they are more likely to play it safe with the new films.

Simple, good and evil fight over the galaxy, good wins.

Duhh.

I would really enjoy seeing the movies explore the beginning of the prequels republic. Since TOR is probably unavailable, and much has already been written about the period after rotj.

Semi-related; Abrams now has influence over both Star Trek and Star Wars fans, he probably has as much -- if not more -- influence over people as Buddha.

How dare you question my power over sheeps people? I shall smite you down with the fury of the heavens!

But unfortunately I have no time, I'm busy watching re-runs of Star Trek and then there is this Star Wars marathon next weekend...

Sorry to necro the thread, but I read quite an interesting article on Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm. It's not really about the new movies but it does mention them, and I found it quite worth the read.
