Let me start off by saying that I love Mesmer, I played it as my main in GW, and have followed suit in GW2. I currently have three of them that I play in GW2.

I tried the Taugrim build, and variations. I have never killed a foe in 3-5 seconds. Yet I myself have been killed that fast. Don't question my builds or my play style. The point is, Mesmer has no place in hot join right now. With the cast times, you can barely get off two skills sometimes before you are knocked flat on the ground, stunned and dazed on your way to being slaughtered by melee characters.

Spec to survive, and you can't kill a thing. Go glass cannon, and you still don't have the ability to kill foes as fast as other classes can. The only way to survive is to call on clones and run around like a chicken without a head, or stand next to a lot of your fellow team.

I actually feel I am strongest in underwater combat, where my skills have decent damage ability. At least there, things are slower to develop.

Is anybody else feeling this way about Mesmer in hot join PvP right now? I know, I know. Suck less, right? Is everybody still targeting the Mesmer first, like they used to do?

It totally saddens me to see that I can not get anywhere close to the same effectiveness that I used to have in the GW Jade Quarry or Fort Aspenwood competitive missions, which I equate to be the equivalent of hot join PvP. I really miss skills like Backfire and Empathy, and rupts that do real damage. The game is just moving too fast for Mesmer right now.

I honestly can't tell if you are trolling, or are just an incredibly bad player...

Mesmer is one of the strongest pvp classes in game right now (maybe even too strong, but I'll let arenanet worry about that)

Just because you don't *get* how to play mesmer doesn't mean there's something wrong with the class, it means something is wrong with you as a player.

Mesmer is an incredibly complex class, and takes a lot of practice to truly understand it's potential, but once you master it the mesmer is practically unstoppable in pvp

Learn the class before making any more embarrassing threads like this.

Spoiler
You must be running the wrong build. Go sword/pistol + gs or staff depending which you prefer, and spec 20/20/0/0/30*. Take signet of domination, blink and decoy. You will find yourself hell of a lot more powerful than any wastrels spamming backfire mesmer ever was in gw1.

*The traits I find most useful are:  remove boons on shatter, fury on phantasams, deceptive evasion, illusionary persona.

I actually had a good laugh on this one...

The mesmer is the only one of my toons where you would have to be almost brain dead to screw up a build.  I mean it's so easy to put together a build that is at least as effective as most "cookie cutter" builds for other classes.

So many different ways to go depending on what fight style you have.

I'm not gonna say l2p or anything, but you may want to just look at what you're trying to do and build around that.  Look at what role you want to fill.

There are tons of great builds on this site as well, just try to figure out what they are trying to accomplish before you just run out and start spammin'.  Some are hang back builds, some are aggressive, some have some burst others are all about conditions and shatters.

In short, Mesmer is one of the TOP TOP PvP toons, if you don't get it, it's you, not the class.  Take some time to work on that portion of the equation and you will be much happier.

Best of luck to you.

EDIT: "Don't question my builds or my play style." that was just silly to put in there.  Of course that's whats goign to happen.  Because that's the problem.

Spoiler

Equating JQ and FA to the current PvP in GW2 is just wrong.  No where near the same.  I wouldn't even compare it to GvG or Tombs.  Maybe a little like RA/TA but a lot more frenetic. But, anyways,  mesmers now can kill exponentially faster than a domination mesmer ever did in GW1.  You can't get 2 skills off before being instagibbed?  Something definitely wrong there.  You can easily pop off multiple skills so much faster than you could ever do as a mesmer running high attribute points in Fast Casting and having a 40/40 set in GW1.

I run a shatter build and can easily get my clones/phantasms up while throwing a daze from my pistol, a sword 2, weapon swap and get off a few skills from my staff or gs, Mind Wrack, more clones/phantasms, Cry of Frustration and much more.  And usually against 2 or 3 opponents.  Not saying that I win all the time but I have a pretty good record.

You say the game is moving too fast for mesmer.  I think the game is moving too fast for you.
