Why not like this concept art?

Completely agree Eldain.  Glad to see there is another hammer enthusiast out there.  I was really disappointed when I found out there were no huge hammers in the game.  I thought the juggernaut would be massive but instead its like a large dumbbell.  Hopefully some bigger/better looking hammers are added in the future.

Pretty much the biggest reason I don't use a hammer on my guardian. I preview every single hammer that I have the chance to, and every single one just looks so wimpy! Need big hammers!

Have to agree here. Switched to dual axes on my Warrior when I couldn't find a single big hammer skin. Colossus of Rage looks quite cool, but like other hammers, it's so small (and expensive).

I have a rare crafted hammer I made. It looks like the Hammer in a carnival game.

its called magmaton, random (with no known recipe as of now) in mystic forge or its on the TP.

but overall I do agree that there is a distinct lack of hammers of this size in the game.

this is utter speculation but. .. what if ANet purposely avoided creating large hammers? if you think about it, people wouldnt be able to weild anything larger than an 8lb. sledge hammer in combat.

actually. . . i take that back, in the novel, Edge of Destiny, Eir lifts a 500lb. statue. . .

this is a bust ANet, tsk tsk.

I thought they did a good job providing a wide variety of war hammers. I quite like the seraph one, myself, and the pact hammer.(thunder-hammer, anyone?)  The ebonhawke-hammer also gets a vote in my book for a nice one. Not everyone likes the ridiculous fantasy hammers like the magmaton. That's why there is variety.

Because it looks *ing ridiculous. Warhammers developed alongside the increased defensive armament of European knights (so full plate armour). They were designed to pierce through that armour, so maximum force delivered to a small area. If anything hammer heads should be even smaller. Similar thing could be said about greatswords, way too many 1' wide blades, animé style, and it just looks bad.

A real warhammer should look like this...

Yes, those look like shit. This is a fantasy themed game, therefore we want fantasy themed weapons.

These are the hammers from GW1:

Maybe some of them will make a comeback when we get to travel to other continents?

for swords, daggers, axes, and bows I agree.  The greatswords in this game are especially horrid...the basic longsword skin is better than 99% of the exotics, and don't even get me started on the zweihander.  I just like that hammer because of GW1 nostalgia really, its magma's arm from GW1 (one of the rarer game skins).

it is a fantasy game though and stupid shiny stuff (read: "night sky" greatsword, unicorn shortbow...all of the "legendaries" in this game) is appealing to many players for whatever reason.

Why is the hammer in the concept art carried by a cloth-wearing norn to begin with ? Did they have some plans they scratched? Or did they just randomly pick the model ?

It's nice and shiny but in GW2 that would be a mace, not a hammer.

Realistic? You can be a 10ft 500lbs norn, why would he use a puny thing like that?

No, I prefer realistic-looking stuff, too. You know, armor that actually covers your vitals and weapons that you could actually fight with and whatnot. However, there are two reasons they tend not to happen: 1) A lot of players like the exaggerated "Buick-on-a-telephone-pole" thing, and 2) the game developers spend a lot of time making cool-looking stuff that you'd never, ever see if it were on a realistically-sized weapon. Only so much detail you can put on a dagger that ends up being a quarter inch long on your screen.

I've taken to using the Ice Breaker skin on my hammers because most hammers don't look good when you're a giant, muscled charr due to how small the heads are. The hammer animations convey a heavy weight so it always bugs me when my charr warrior acts as if what's little more than a glorified human sledgehammer weighs just as much as a hammer where the head is 20+kg. I mean, my charr looks like she could easily pick up a sylvari and beat people with him/her, she wouldn't even break a sweat using most of the hammers we have or require nearly the same amount of energy the animations suggest is required for using said hammers.

For asura, slyvari, and humans the smaller heads make sense since those races are smaller and physically couldn't wield a hammer with a overly heavy head and have it remain a viable weapon (ignoring this is a fantasy game and certain liberties can be taken). For norn and charr, however, not having large heads strikes me as odd. Both have a lot of upper body strength and could wield far larger heads than the other races and not be hampered by it. Heck, larger heads could possibly even be preferable since while they might be a bit slower than small-headed hammers, the force would be able to crush armour and shatter bones so very easily.

I don't think Arenanet should remove the small hammer skins or not add any more, but as a hammer warrior it would be nice if there was more variety and options for using larger hammers. It just strikes me as sad when some maces have larger heads than many of the hammers.

I agree too. I prefer the basic, more realistic skins.

Great for me because I can just buy them for a few coppers and transmute to my exotics :)

This one came from one of the earlier personal story quests that take place in Fort Trinity (so somewhere in the neighborhood of L70). The decoration is a bit on the ostentatious side for a combat weapon, but the design itself is pretty close to a standard claymore. Yeah, it's a bit big, but you have to see the detail, yadda-yadda-yadda. Still, one of the best GS designs I've seen in game.

Plus it matches my outfit. Now I can, like, totally be seen in public with it.

If people wanted realistic weapons, you'd also need realistic enemies... You aaren't going to do a scratch on Gaheron Baelfire with a conventional warhammer.

Sooo.... Put pluto on a stick and give it to my charr warrior!

This argument wouldn't hold as one could simply redirect you to the Greatswords. Anyway, yea, Hammer sizes are lacking in size and makes them feel puny.

Agree completely! The only reason I don't use a hammer, is because almost all of them look like a mace with a longer handle.
